Great Lady! When I started reading fashion magazines such U.S Vogue and Hapers Bazar and Town and Country and yes the New York Times fashion suplement(while attending the American School in Lisbon) I always was enchanted by Mrs Kempner. She wasn't a clotheshorse but simply a sophisticated lady with great taste. You are missed Mrs Kempner.
The late Mrs. Kempner's ancestors were clothing manufacturers in New York, San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco, California. She was born into the business of women's style. R.I.P. Nan Kempner.
Nan had a ravenous cigarette addiction admitting she smoked 6 packs of cigarettes a day. Sadly it caught up with her in the early 2000's....Along with Louloudelafalise who smoked 4 packs a day.
Nan Kempner is the epitome of you can never be too rich or too thin. She's deeply miss
"There are no chic American women. The one exception is Nan Kempner."

Her remark about Levi Strauss is telling that she grew up in San Francisco, California! The very home of Levi Strauss for generations.
Yes but she thought San Francisco was provincial and fuddy duddy which it is fashion wise and she preferred New York.
@@markc-ru4qz She never missed the opening of the SF Opera. It was one of the highlights of her social calendar.
R.I.P-Nan Kempner.....A huge Couture client.
She was so fabulous
She had so much beautiful clothes. They were able to have an exhibit at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in the costume exhibit for goodness sake!
She is fucking fabulous!

Great sense of humor.
FABULOUS!
Smashing! I loved her wit, her style, and her willingness to party.
Hard to believe she's been dead for almost 18 years now.
I looked forward to see her photographed by Bill Cunningham for Sunday STYLE selection... an era gone by. Nan always looked style +

How do you think she stayed so thin.lol
6 packs seems unbelievable
That is gross.
Bless her. She's not breathing well in this . Trachea tug.
@@quietyoutrash8150She did not smoke 6 packs a day. This is the kind of mythologizing commonly put onto famous smoking women of that time like Nan.

I wish they had shown her in her clothes
Such a chic lady
When her husband was going to leave her for his mistress, she told him shed take him for every cent he had. He didn't leave her. LOL.
