      Yes! It helps to psychologically confirm the bleak cold seclusion that the characters are experiencing.

      it was great hearing these guys kickback and talk about the film. it's my first time hearing Kurt Russell's take on it hands down one of my all time favorites all in part to coming up in the 80s. Mid to late 80s he was the man! a lot to do with why I went ahead and checked this video out almost every film he starred in I thought did legendary. Couldn't take my eyes off his acting for a second. Just this string of amazing movies but getting back to this. hearing the laughter and the thoughts on certain parts was so stoic. hearing their take on this amazing film just ended all these years of wondering of how they thought and what they felt about the movie. Just amazing hearing these guys take on this imo, an amazing film. Can't wait to hear more interviews with Kurt if he ever gets back on here and does more commentary same with Carpenter and Keith David. Really everyone just phenomenal! 😄

    I have no problem watching Carpenter's The Thing at any time any day. I'm sure we can all agree to that. I tell you this though, I'd totally listen to Kurt Russell laugh for 90 minutes and I'd have permagrin all day. "Love that Joker" face. 😆

    Just an FYI but Kurt is the bomb in commentaries. They're usually as entertaining as the films he's talking about. His other 2 with Mr. Carpenter (Escape From New York and Big Trouble in Little China) are terrific and the one he did with the makers of Used Cars is riotously funny.

    The Thing (1982) directed by John Carpenter will always be my number 1 favorite sci-fi horror movie and it's because The Thing (1982) is the only horror movie that has scared me and disturbed me a lot more than any other horror movie ever created as well:).

    It’s crazy because The Thing came out the same year E.T. came out and most sci-fi movies that year got overshadowed by E.T. As a kid, E.T was box office, as an adult, THE THING kicks ET’s Asthma 😂

    J.C." representing both John Carpenter and (initials) of Jesus Christ.
    Also the symbolism of Jesus being a carpenter
    The character MacReady (made ready) could symbolize the preparation of the Spirit of God, ready for action or judgment. The choice of the alcohol "J and B" as a symbol of the body and Spirit of Jesus, as it represents the idea of consuming the body of Christ spiritually.(As hard alcohol are knows as spirits)
    The chess computer game representing the antichrist and the beast system also, where MacReady, by pouring his spirit (the alcohol) into the computer and calling it a liar, is standing in judgment. It's a symbolic act of defeating the lies of the world with the truth of God's Word.
    MacReady (Jesus figure): He symbolizes Jesus, giving his spirit to others who need help, and offering guidance.
    His action of giving vodka to Blair (similar as to when Judas was overruled by the spirit of satan was about to betray the truth; Jesus) who is consumed by sin and distrust represents how those who embrace sin are ultimately destroyed by it.
    The Paranoia and Fear: The man who tells MacReady to make sure everyone prepares their own meals embodies the fear and distrust, a loss of fellowship with God. (Shared meals were important as they represent fellowship)
    MacReady's judgment of this man, followed by his destruction by fire, symbolizes how sin and lies (the spirit of the liar) are burned away in judgment, like sin being destroyed in the pits of hell.
    MacReady’s Ripped Clothing: This symbolizes the tearing of the veil, a moment of spiritual truth where God’s presence is revealed and available to all people, bringing freedom and salvation.
    Childs as the Children of God: Childs represents the children of God, and in the end, the exchange between MacReady and Childs breaks down barriers like racism, distrust, paranoia) which you see as originating from lies and sin. When Childs asks what they should do, it reflects a trusting relationship with God, waiting for the ultimate judgment and the Day of the Lord, where eternal life is promised.
    Waiting for Eternal Life: The concept of "waiting" symbolizes patience and trust in God's plan, whereas the confusion and paranoia represent the limited thinking of those who live in lies, leading to chaos and confusion.
    Once the truth is revealed, the children of God move forward into expansion, knowing the truth leads to life and growth (whereas many others are still stuck trying to figure out who was the thing and who wasn't in the end)
    MacReady's statement to Blair "Trust in the Lord", seems to reflect the need for trust in the Lord, especially in the face of overwhelming fear, paranoia, and sin. Just as MacReady maintains his clarity and judgment, trusting in his purpose, the message could be about the importance of trusting in God's plan even when things seem chaotic or filled with distrust.
    This trust in the Lord represents steadfast faith and reliance on God’s Truth, knowing that, like MacReady's resolve, the truth will prevail and ultimately lead to redemption. It's a reminder that in a world full of lies and confusion, trusting the Lord is key to navigating through the chaos and waiting patiently for His perfect timing and salvation.
    The defeat of The Thing as the antichrist, and the symbolism of Childs being nearer to the fire, adds a layer of profound meaning. The idea of Childs not having cold air coming from his mouth suggests a closeness to the "fire," which could symbolize purity, truth, or the refining power of God’s presence, especially as the fire can represent God's judgment and cleansing.
    On the other hand, MacReady, with the cold air coming from his mouth, symbolizes the breath of life that comes from the truth of God's Word-speaking life into His children. It's like when God breathes life into us, sustaining and guiding us in His truth.
    those who trust and obey are relieved from the weariness and pain caused by sin, which beautifully echoes the message of salvation and the peace that comes from following God's will. When we trust in Him and walk in His ways, we are relieved from the burdens of the world, and we can rest in the comfort of His Spirit, just as MacReady's words bring clarity and strength to the children of God in the midst of chaos.
    This interpretation ties into the broader spiritual theme of being saved from the "worldly sins" that tire and burden us. It’s an encouragement to trust in God’s truth and His Word, which provides us with the strength to overcome the lies and struggles of this world.

    IF CHILDS WAS THE THING HE WOULD ATTACK MACREADY IN THE LAST SCENE!!! THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THE THING NOT TO ATTACK HUMAN WHEN ONLY 1-ON-1 LEFT!!! SO HE WASN'T.

      Wrong,once the fire went out they would freeze and the thing would survive to re-emerge when the rescue team comes by. It’s too risky

    • @R.J.MacReady31
      @R.J.MacReady31 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. MacReady was the last who could tell people what really happened there, how The Thing exist etc. So it's better for The Thing if MacReady doesn't tell to people all true story what happened. This is ANOTHER reason to absorb him in last scene, and then The Thing (MacReady and Childs) could tell the story beneficial for The Thing, maybe even story of their camp without The Thing, and then IT WINS.

    • @thomasmccann3679
      @thomasmccann3679 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@R.J.MacReady31 the rescue team isnt coming for weeks. there is zero chance MacReady survives. the thing doesn't have to do anything, his fate is already written.

    • @R.J.MacReady31
      @R.J.MacReady31 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think The Thing doesn't consider if MacReady survives until help comes. More, MacReady could find out that Childs is the Thing and try to kill it, MacReady is danger for The Thing until he lives. Besides i can imagine he could keep the fire and survive anyway even if small chances.
