This is genuinely something I never would have guessed would happen. This was a fun battle and it was fun to watch Kimi in cup. Hope he comes back again. Unfortunate end but he did great!
Unfortunately, Kimi has said in the presscon that he had no intention to run full time. But he said that he will do more part time starts next year with Trackhouse's Project 91 so definitely we'll see him on occasion....
I think if they had less races per year he could do it. Schedule is too damn long for someone that seemed very tired of all the media stuff drivers need to do.
He would've choose IndyCar if that's the case (and even then he probably going to do limited schedule anyway), and besides the man simply wants to enjoy racing on occasion without worrying about championships and all that....
Cat shows up. Doesn't know the rules. Doesn't know what line to take. Hardly put any time in the car or on the track. Puts his a$$ in the seat, qualifies super solid and gets up near top 10. In a cup car. Battling champions. Absolute fecking legend mate.
I think the battle is in the booth lol . Hard for anyone else to get a word in with Letarte in the booth . He has hardly shut up today and even interrupting everyone .
I've been a NASCAR fan as long as a f1 fan from the late 70s. This was a great moment for NASCAR to have a F1 champion running in the top ten basically stepping into the car for the first time in 10/11 years? Shows two things today - TH is a legit nascar team right out of the box freshman year - 2 - Kimi can drive anything and well. We won't see Kimi in a car full time, but you never know who might get a bug and say they want to try this Cup car thing. Most of all, like Romain has experienced in Indy, we are a different atmosphere from Europe, and all for the better. Unfortunate ending that was no fault of his own. I wanted to see him finish so badly. Nascar needs to look at the proposition Justin Marks brought to them and use it as a development and marketing tool to grow the sport. I don't doubt we'll see a race in Europe some day.
I think they already race in the UK once a year. I'd love to see Nascar go back to Japan though. Fuji Speedway seems like it'd be a hell of a track for these cars.
He was turning top ten speed laps during this race in a car he had 15 total laps of practice with…EVER… Glad to see the mutual respect between top drivers.
Every year i had a friend who had all excess passes for the NASCAR at the Glen. I would go down to pit row and check out the teams and crews. You couldnt believe how intricate the racing game is. He also was the catering manager that could basically go anywhere you wanted to go. Its a life style for the sport and the people are just great welcoming everone to join them.. I use to go to the 3 day BBQ Competition on the infeild and the food was awesome. That was 20 yrs ago and I no longer live in NY but the memories will last a life time. If you never had the opportunity to visit a road course I highly recommend you go and catch a race. You wont be sorry.

For a new big league driver for Nascar I have a feeling the next couple seasons are going to be a more wild ride than when Larson went into the fence coming to the flag and tore the motor out of his car.
Never would I have ever thought I would see Kimi And Chase Elliott going wheel to wheel ! My favorite F1 driver against my current favorite NASCAR driver. Crazy world
Kimi was a good choice for NASCAR , but I very want to see one time what can Max Verstappen do in this series . I think he can do the same, like Kimi, or maybe a little bit better .
I honestly think he wouldn't do as well. Gotta remember that Kimi jumped into arguably the absolute opposite of F1 in the WRC and never finished lower than 8th.
Honestly hard to say, Max is a superb F1 driver and also quite aggressive so that could work in stock car racing for sure. Kimi does have more experience in different cars so that probably helps a lot jumping into a new series. Kimi is also finnish and we finns somehow know how to drive cars fast, at least statistically we are a crazy good country in motorsports.
@@dehoedergia whole different type of aggression in nascar, would be fun to watch him rage though. max would make some good highlights but would get outclassed in dickheaded driving if he wanted to bring that energy. also why do finish people speak as if you are some collective membrane of thought/talent? weird af.

A lot of the hesitation comes from the fact that NASCAR rules do not allow for much practice at all. Kimi's last time in a stock car was a decade ago and the cars were in a lower series and completely different. For him to adapt so quickly with little prep time was very impressive and proof of his skill and the package that Trackhouse provided him.
Strange they feel okay using his first name, like they are old friends. Not going to help a one of these low level national series drivers ever get into F1.
NASCAR needs Kimi like they needed to get rid of Rockingham, North Wilkesboro, drop a Darlington race, add Chicagoland, add a Kansas race, run Bristol on dirt, add any race in California. So tell me what else NASCAR needs to further race to the bottom of the car racing world.
