      Exactly the same for me, the wikipedia page is meaningless without a prior understanding of the process. I just reread it after watching this concise video and it is still insider nonsense, common problem when people deep inside an industry try to write encyclopedic content.

      I had the same experience many years ago. My level of knowledge and experience was minimal compared to the 3-decade pressmen who taught me. They explained things quickly, with the assumption I understood what they meant and had a rudimentary knowledge of the process... uh, process. "OK. Loosen the gearside trolleys on the balloon so we don't get overfeed and smash a blanket if the web wraps." Uh, what? But I didn't have a video that simplified it, though I wish I had.

    Nice, but a brief mention of the alternatives would have been a good addition. Since you mentioned what offset printing is good for, high volume printing, it would be useful to mention what kind of printing might be good when you're dealing with low volume printing, and a link to a video that covers that kind of printing like this one does offset.

    there is one big mistake at 0:55 the water rollers and the ink rollers are on the wrong place. The blanket always hits the water rollers first then the ink rollers. Look at 0:27. there is the example good. The blanket cylinder turns in the right direction.

    • @lafingas555
      @lafingas555 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not in a Goss colourliner it doesn't the water roller hits a steel first and another water roller, they are nowhere near the blanket. The water roller goes directly on to the plate.It's just a different setup.

    • @19912005311
      @19912005311 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you clean them and put new gumming on the plates, you can use them maybe 1-2 times until the ink accepting layer will get weaker and finally goes off, so there will be no image.
      We usually destroy them after one time use

    • @budlewis721

      You can use them indefinitely, but not for printing (except as noted by HLATG☝above). I once made a Tin Man costume with some and won a costume contest.

    If you're printing and want a good black value, don't use 100% K i.e. 0, 0, 0, 100 - it'll be printed looking a bit washed out, or a grey colour. I always use 60, 40, 40, 100 to give a rich black for printing.

    • @budlewis721
      @budlewis721 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never seen that, though I'm far from being an authority. Are you sure you weren't laying down too much water to compensate for the excess ink, and washing out the black? In one shop we'd put a deep red underneath the black solids. The result was a black you could dive into, especially on coated stock.

    • @LordKilliak
      @LordKilliak ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, The rule is Text: 100% Black, rest 0%. When you need a good black on the graphic part, you use rich Black, That's 100%K, 0%Y, 40%C, 40%M... Now, you can make it richer, but it depends on the quality of the offset printing. These are safe numbers. I work for a boardgame manufacturing company and I prepare the files for our costumers.
