Painting miniatures will primarily teach you how to simplify (try to make a miniature with a one-inch brush). However, the value that you added here is a very interesting one. Monochromatic, warm, and cold color. For number four I would suggest this: paint in the wrong colors. Grass red, sky yellow, roof green. Or, do it with complementary colors. Use the color wheel to get them. Painting is fun!
Just restling with should I change from oils to acrylic painting as they appear much easier to use and dry quickly. I use oils and find it difficult to swap mentally even to start with. What do you think in the round. Your so accomplished with both . Advise would be appreciated Thanks David
It's a dilemma as I like the medium I am using at that time. But I have to take oils as the ultimate painting medium that can do everything I want. When I started fine art it was with acrylics. Then I painted with oils over acrylics. This is an excellent technique. It may be what you need to try.
I paint (sort of haha) in acrylics. Color temp always throws me, so this was a good lesson! But also, do you have a video on painting with water mixable oils? I wouldn't mind trying oil but they scare me. Thought maybe the water mixable oils would be a good step toward oils. What are your thoughts on that medium?
