    Aluminum Automatics & 203’s suck in 4x4’s.
    The 465/205 is the best way to go.
    Excellent work brother!

    Thanks for the video. On the Neutral switch you can push in the tabs and lift up the plastic switch up from the column. Tape around the switch itself on both sides of the yellow selector so it can not move then zip tie it up out of the way. No more issues with the thing not starting.

    Thanks man- I already have all the stuff for the conversion, pedal assembly, hydro clutch/bellhousing, tranny etc. I parted out an 88 V3500 a few years ago that had rolled and the stuff has been sitting in my shop for 3 years. Already rebuilt and swapped in the 454 out of it into my FrankenK5. I never thought the TH350 would last as long as it has behind a big block. It is still doing fine, but I want to go ahead and put the 465/205 in this winter along with the D60.

    First I went from Np203 to an Np205 when I was still using the th350 auto. When I switched the transfer cases I had to get the drive shaft leangthened because the np205 is shorter then the np203. Both units had fixed rear yoke set ups. When I put in the sm465 Everything bolted up. So an sm465/np205 and a th350/np205 are roughly the same leangth.

    The bell housing bolt patern is the same from SBC - 454 and the 6.2 and 6.5 diesels. . What you want to swap out is the gear indicator in the dash... Very easy job. The SM465 already has reverse wiring on the shift tower cover on the transmission. You have two options... Steering colum out of an auto truck or run a floor mounted automatic shifter. Also your neutral saftey switch will need to be redone. Its very easy to do and all bolt on and alittle wiring.

    I bought a 1984 K1500 that had the auto to manual swap done. It had a sm465 but I sold that and proceeded to LS 5.3L and nv4500 swap. 1985 and up uses hydraulic clutch and parts are more expensive than the z-bar clutch. I'm using z-bar on my 1984 C30 swap to manual. Already got the high hump transmission pan.

    • @84400
      @84400  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      right and Z bar is much more reliable. The down fall to a Z bar is flexing it offroad and the heavier clutch pedal. I used the hydro set up as it was an easier install and I had wheeled with people whose Z bars came apart on the trial and I did not want to deal. IT a stout simple setup that works! both are good.

    You could have saved yourself a lot of work if you just got a hydraulic clutch pedal and master cylinder from Jegs or Summit. Drill three holes and you're done.

    • @84400
      @84400  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True but I like having the factory parts. Plus it was cheaper for me this way as i bought a used setup from a K5

  • @84400
    @84400  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    yeah it is pretty easy. The steering colum wirieng will be diffrent since they did not have cruise on the coolum in 77 but did in 87. Also in 77 the wipers are in the dash but in 87 they are on the colum. you will need to swap pedal boxes and add floor hole for the clutch Z bar set up unless you go hydro clutch like what came in 85 and up.

  • @GhettoWagon

    Manual, or Manuel. Manuel sells the parts.

  • @84400
    @84400  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    All front 10 bolts are the same. The only diffrance is that some have 28 spline axle shafts and others are 30 spline (1988 and up). The way GM made them "3/4" ton was to change out the hubs,rotors to make them 8 lug. The rear there is a few options. Half tons have a 10 bolt or a 12 bolt. 3/4 tons have a semi float 14bolt 9.5 ring gear or a 14 FF 10.5 ring gear axle which is the same as the 1 ton except the spring perch spacing. 1 tons had 14FF or Dana 70 rears and Dana 60 froints.

    Trying to do a 5 speed swap from the junkyard on a 1973 chevy pickup.350 .its already manual 3 speed. ..what yrs/models do I look for ...do I need the pedals too? Any help would be appreciate

  • @84400
    @84400  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Depending how you use the truck will change your transmission choice. The 200r4 is a cat trans and not beefy enough for your truck. If you want to stay manual a NV3500 or a T5 would give you an easier hydro clutch , overdrive, a and a car like closer ratio shift..

    Do a mechanical z-bar linkage, a lot easier, and fewer parts.

  • @84400
    @84400  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    no infact it is easier since you don't need to mess with the pedals. You will need to swap colums or run a floor mounted shifter.

  • @alanack67
    @alanack67 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Certainly... actauly it should fit any chevy c/k engine like 263, 305, 350, 400. The bell housings are almost all the same on the trucks even the diesels... Your looking at a lot of work because you need a steering coulum for the shift linkage and you need to wire your back up lights

      I have not done that swap in a square body. I am sure the pedal swap would be the same. you would need to adapt to the NV hydrolics and spline count on the transfer case might be an issue. Also I would think the nv3500 is longer then an sm465. Thanks for watching!!

    Having an issue with my swap!
    79 Cheyenne automatic 350 pulled to fit 86 Chevy k10. I pulled the k10 engine 305 and I'm swapping it with the 79 350 automatic.
    Issue: when I'm putting the 350 into the transmission everything is smooth sailing except for about an inch where the transmission won't fit right into the engine! Do I have to pull out that pilot bearing from the 350 engine first? Using basic wrench tools, no garage and fighting weather! Any help or advice would be appreciated...also the truck is on my page if anyone needs to see it.

    • @REDXIII1331

      for the Front Drive shaft you most likely would need to change that out 50/50 to relocating the cross-member mount from Automatic to Manual Tranz "long to Short Body" as for the rear axle is your choice give or take of the Tcase tail hosing for the yoke but you still might have to rebuild that to compensate the length said and viewed like this part of the film for example 6:30 to 8:40 hope this helps straight and simple dose not really matter of year body style truck if you plan to lift your truck with swapping the trans either or

These transmissions were used in GM's from the 60-early 90's. The bellhousing was from a 1986 K10 and the pedal assembly was out of a 1987 R30 (K30)
