What emotions were you feeling when you cried after your run?

    • @benbrown
      @benbrown  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +39

I was blissing out for most of the second half of the run, and of course my body was in a lot of physical pain, which brings up emotions of frustration maybe, and then joy as I laugh at myself and the way my mind can try and tell me to stop or that I’ve made a mistake in running this far; it’s fun to catch these stories or little limiting concepts about myself and what level of discomfort I’m willing to put myself in.
Oh and often I find when I'm really flooded with joy (and pain lol) from shifting energy somatically (in the body) it can bring up very deep grief, the kind of grief that I believe requires bliss to be present at the same time, the mind tries to attach stories to the feeling, with practice I’m getting more skilled at noticing the stories and not feeding them with thoughts,
This has been my experience with breathwork and other ceremonies too, the high vibration of love in an expanded physical body (doing exercise) plus a high flow of life-force energy and bliss shakes up pocketss of denser energy (emotions/trauma caught as energetic memory in the physical body’s nervous stem creating tension and disharmony) I find myself going from grief, to joyful bliss, to ecstatic states and back to grief again, I've learned just let it flow.
The chemistry that floods the system after exercise I think is of a similar blissful nature as that of after a deep cry, this adds to the bliss grief cycle, IDK if that makes sense but it always ends in the deeply felt experience of love and a deep sense of relaxation; healing.
Running and other cardio is great because humans tend to store grief in the lungs, so getting them going is naturally going to awaken stagnant pockets of emotions related to suppressed or repressed grief. Different emotions get repressed into different parts of the physical body, mainly the nervous system, this contracted state creates tension in the muscles and joints, so when we start to move those muscles and joints that tension and energy is also being invited to be release, by being felt and expressed.
There's also the factors of me having done something hard that I set out to do, and me having to connect with my deeper stronger parts of my mind, overcoming the challenge at a time when I've recently been in deep doubt about my ability or willingness to do life with passion and love.
Remembering we are strong and capable is an emotional experience because deep down we've known it all along, and so I can feel sadness and some anger too in these moments, as I acknowledge that it is ME that's been holding me back this whole time, just as it's ME that is choosing to step back into the arena of life and pick up my shield once again.
The warrior energy that I feel coming back online is being motivated by my deep emotions, the warrior can be out of touch with the heart, with love, and want to misuse his power, connecting with grief cracks the heart open and reminds the warrior what he shows up in service of; Love, beauty, truth, shit that fucking matters, that makes life not just meaningful, but fucking sacred, precious, a divine gift beyond the minds comprehension, this is heart territory.
I'm incredibly blessed to feel shit so deeply and it gives me so much motivation to live life with compassion and energy once again. With Love!
      Thanks, great question :)

I have been watching you since the early trio days with you Steve and Louis
I'm now 31 I almost died in April and have subsequently found out I have a really rare genetic condition and the average life expectancy is 45 from this chronic illness I now have chronic pancreatitis and diabetes
The only thing I can do is eat less than 15 grams of fat a day and exercise.
I have started my journey running and hiking and see you post this video now made me want to aim for a 33km run ❤
Keep up the videos it's so good to see you in a better place

This is so awe inspiring to watch, Ben. I’ve watched your channel since joining you back in 2016. I love how I’ve seen your whole journey and you’re still pushing yourself to becoming a better human being.
When you cried, you could see it was genuine. You can see the pain you’re/you’ve gone through to get to this point. The rush of emotions and being brave enough to show us those emotions are massive, us Men get bashed a lot for showing emotion and I’m glad we can see you allowing us to openly express our emotions.
I can’t wait to see the next steps you’re taking, the van journey to be able to van vlog, you’re driving me back to wanting to get a van and vlog also! You might have moved on, but I can only imagine how good Visual Vibes will be when you’re van vlogging. Love every minute of watching you!

About the sneakers: I think that something around 800 to a thousand km is ok.
About the video: thank you so much. I follow you for so long and I have always identified myself with your work and got a even deeper connection with this video. I'm a runner, I get this runner high, I get emotional too and you just remembered me that, by commiting to the process, I can do hard things!
It's so easy to get caught up in the process and forget that someday you've sucked at doing something and now you're doing great things... thank you for this video, for this reminder!
I'm so sorry for my english. I hope I haven't made many mistakes and made myself clear.
    THANK YOU BEN!
I'm from Brazil and I wish so bad that I could hag out and run with you!

I tend to find my running shoes need replacing by about 800km - I usually start getting pain in my IT band which is when I know. I think the general advice is between 500-800kms but obviously different for everyone! I have added them to my Strava so it tracks the mileage and sends me reminders on when they might need changing.

I'm almost 28 and only started running turning 27, and am doing it once a week, in the process of twice a week, and my pace has gotten better and all. And its so satisfying to see the progress and to actually enjoy running. I used to dread it. I don't know if I will ever be the perfect runner or ever run something like a marathon, but its enough for me to run twice or thrice a week and have a good pace, to feel good about myself and my body and to enjoy every moment of my life! So heres to running for joy!

Ben, I highly recommend doing a Vipassana 10 day silent meditation course. I really think you’d gain so much from it (if you haven’t done it already)-especially in terms of curbing a phone addiction. I’m born/raised in London but I live in Canada now and did it there, but I hear there is a beauuttttiful one in west England. If you wanna talk more about it I’d be happy to but yeah, gained such a crazy mind/body connection, can really feel where trauma is stored in various parts of my body, can feel through hard shit in the moment, and absolutely do not care about my phone anymore. Please look into it at least!

Great run, great video! You should ideally replace your shoes every 750km or so to avoid injuries. With long distance shoes, you can stretch that a bit. However, I would try to rotate out the old shoes and rotate in some new shoes at around 700 - 800 km.

You were born to be a runner, Ben. No, an athlete. Your fitness is incredible.

Holding onto the past, holds you back. Holding onto these 600k subs is a false economy. This channel will most likely never return to high numbers. Very few of them do. It’s a struggle to even post consistently sand it’s draining your energy and the energy of old and new viewers alike. It’s sad to see for old subs for sure. Let it go! Start a new channel! Use the excitement of the unknown in starting something new with a fresh perspective to propel you into the success you crave. At this point, you have nothing to lose. Sorry not sorry, but someone had to say it.
