    I just love that classic p-bass sound. I always go for full volume and full tone on non-active basses and fiddle with EQ further down the signal line, if necessary.
    Thanks Tyler, nice one mate.

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The P is just the “sound in your head” so frequently! Nice! Opposite approach to me, but that’s what makes us all unique and gives us our respective tones. I’m just a sucker for the bass boost when you roll off the tone on a P! Thank you for the support my man. T

  • @bones2532
    @bones2532 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    A P-bass like it should be, I think. How could anyone not like it?!
    If only there wasn't the price tag...
    Looks like you found the perfect instrument for you, congrats!
    Sounds killer with the tone at 50%. That's what really makes a good P-bass so versatile i.m.o., that pickup delivers so much bite, that can easily be controlled just by the tone pot. Simple but effective.
    Nice to see you well after that covid infection. Stay healthy!

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My thoughts exactly! I love this P and its simplicity. Right around 75%-50% is where I have it on most gigs and recordings. Enough to cut, with a little extra booty from the slight tone roll-off.
      Thank you for the kindness, I’m feel good now thankfully! You too my man! T

    Really like the reviews Tyler, it's refreshing to have younger folk's opinion on gear. I have recently bought a Fender American Pro series P bass (not the VII) and it is really superb. In agreement with the custom shop stuff, it would be my next purchase before a true vintage just for all the factors you mention. Great stuff!!

      Thank you my man! Much appreciate the support! Can’t go wrong with those Pros, they come close to the customs, but if you want that vintage feel and sound, I think the CS is hard to beat! T

    I built a quick and dirty 59 with a Squier CV Late 50's root beer sunburst and a hand scatter wound pickup from Reech at Epic Custom Shop by Detroit, his Black Gold model. Love the clang of the late 50s ones.
    It would be great in vids like this one if you played an actual tune or two, as well as the tone variants riffs.

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Haha! I have indeed! That tone at 50 is one of my favourites too. Always between 50-75% on gigs or recording, unless it’s something very “Rock”. T

    Great review Tyler, you're pretty much playing my dream P bass right there, has the perfect amount of low mid grunt I would expect from a great P. I've always wanted a Fiesta red just because of how significant the color is, and I'm not even from the UK! What you've spec'd out makes total sense. The Pino signature is great, but quite frankly the price is exorbitant for what it is. I'd much rather spec the same exact bass but in NOS finish and save about 2 grand off the price. And this way you get to make your own relic if you put the time in, and not just copy Pino's bass.

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Brett! That was my feeling too - I couldn’t see where the extra money was going on the Pino! Awesome to find someone else with similar tastes in Ps! T

    Beautiful bass! I have a fender select series P Bass-nitrocellulose lacquer so I get to give it “my” own character lol. It’s the first bass guitar I’ve ever purchased and I love it very much.

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love it! I had a friend with a nitro Strat which looks like it’s been heavily relic’d when in reality it’s just from 2006 and been played on everything he’s done. Something to be said about making something your own imo! T

    Sweet CS bass, also I hope you're feeling better! I love Precision Basses as well, the simplicity and the aggressive punch they have is irreplaceable for me, even for slapping, not to mention the flatwounds and that classic dark tone that other basses can't achieve, no matter how hard they try :) My two main axes are my '14 US Standard P and the 51 P replica from Squier, both are superb for any type of music, especially funk and disco.

    Is the sound in this review straight from aguilar TH? Or are you mic’ng the amp? I didn’t see it mic’d but since you listed a microphone in the description I’m not so sure.

  • @michibassdeva

    Great video Tyler! I also prefer a CS bass next to any vintage bass. Vintage basses are cool, but they are just not that consistent and viable.

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you my man, and for the pointer on the links, I’ll get to those today! I agree, CS modern production with vintage specs is the only way I could see having both an instrument that will last a lifetime and be affordable. T

    Really happy for you, it’s the best bass, just great. I love the precision and jazz. I have American professionals. I bought a rickenbacker recently. Would you say this has more low end then rickenbacker?

  • @Robert-dt3is
    @Robert-dt3is 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome bass! I was also wondering why you have two SL112 instead one SL212 cabinet. I happen to be interested in getting said Aguilar cabinet model. Was curious on your reasoning.

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Modularity! Can’t go wrong with two imo, can take one with a TH500 for a small gig, one plus DB751 for recording or two plus either head for a bigger show. It’s also way more portable than one big cab and easier to manoeuvre. I used to have a big 212 and am so much happier being able to divide it!

      On this note, Do you find that sl112 is lacking character compared to db112 and other non Neodymium driver cabs? I find that they are quite sterile

  • @EmanCarbone
    @EmanCarbone 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Have you ever tried it side-by-side with the Palladino signature? Besides wear/relic I guess there are some differences in the neck shape and pickup, but they do share a lot, colours aside.

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve not tried them side by side, but yes, beyond pickup, neck shape and wear, they are very much the same - but then again, that’s the nature of a P haha! Oh and the Pino tunes the right way, which definitely deserves praise 🙏🏻 T

    • @EmanCarbone
      @EmanCarbone 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TylerSpicer I'm used to tune Ps backwards for ages, anyway, so it'd probably feel kinda weird the other way around.

  • @67NewEngland
    @67NewEngland 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have an 2008 American Standard series P that is on the lighter side without feeling super light. It is a great piece of resonant wood that is worth hanging onto but the pickups are quite bland and could use some upgrading.

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the standards of those era do sound pretty okay, middle of the road P bass in my experience. I really dig nordstrands as well as the hybrid 59/62 in this CS, but definitely different sounds. T

  • @limegreenthecolor
    @limegreenthecolor 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Tyler,
    Thanks for doing your videos. I'm thinking about getting a Pino Pallidino P Bass. Does your bass have the same specs as the Pino? I really like the sound of yours. I also like the new finish on your rather than the worn finish. They tell me you can only get the worn finish with the Pino Pallidino.
    Thanks, man!

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Thank you for watching! It’s not quite the same spec - mine’s got an oval rather than C shaped neck, no relicing, reverse tuners and a different pickup. It’s my baby and “my bass” to me. I love the fact it’s not a Pino. Guitar guitar in the U.K. order these in occasionally, but I’m pretty sure you could make an order with these specs. T

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do think the sound is unique of this bass. The pickup is a 59/63 hybrid I believe. I could dig the spec sheet out of the case next time I’m back at my parents’ house if it helped. (I have too many cases to store in my new place haha!)

      @@TylerSpicer Thanks, Tyler! I'm definitely going to go with a custom shop. They're very expensive over here in the US, so I want to get it right! But, I hope this will be my "forever" bass. I've been playing an old Gibson Victory bass (circa 1982) I inherited from my mother-in-law which will become my back-up. You helped me decide on getting a Aguilar DB751 which Ive been very happy with. I appreciate you!

    I've always wanted to do the custom shop. But I'm too much of a lazy shit to takes my design to a builder (there's none near me) So I just went for the mod shop. Still a great p bass that I love.

  • @91cog
    @91cog 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Lovely precision bass! I think the Fender Custom shop is an excellent choice for a working bass to last a lifetime. For around the same price, a friend of mine plays an original 70’s precision bass, which is hot garbage in comparison!

    • @TylerSpicer
      @TylerSpicer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! That was my thinking too, it’s gonna be one of my “forever” basses as there’s never gonna be a time in my life that I don’t need a P! Haha, very common place indeed, beyond a couple of vintage gems I’ve come across, Im CS all the way! T
