Regardless of the narrative, for me this is peak Brookside. Effortless mixture of tragedy, comedy, real-life and heartache so brilliantly written and interwoven. That's not even mentioning breezing through edgy and taboo issues such as assisted dying / euthanasia; life-changing injuries, infidelity, child deaths, STDs, commercial feuds and incest of course!
Yes,it is the peak of Brookside but towards the end of the peak.Only 2 more big storylines namely The explosion on Brookside parade and lastly the slow burning storyline of Anthony Murray's bullying by Imelda Clough.
Another reply, the second point you made about the blend of tragedy, comedy and real life situations,Brookside has always blended dramatic storylines with subtle comic moments, the only now defunct soap that comes close is Take the High Road which also blended dramatic storylines with subtle comic moments.
I love Brookside. I still wish it was on nowadays. I love listening to the voice overs at the beginning and end of each episode 😊. There's loads of special weeks of BROOKSIDE isn't there? :)
There’s no way that random block of steel is the huge moby. I spoke to someone who worked on the production team, and it’s actually a small van they crushed that was the same colour
There was also an unseen character by the name of Don Rixsen. He had his own mobile grocery business (and did some amateur stand-up comedy, singing at his local branch of the Royal British Legion) in Bootle.
I’m just waiting for the episodes where Garry Brant arrives on the scene, looking into opening a nightclub on the parade called “Lu Lath”. Planning permission will be unfortunately denied as the Manor Park Council have opted to approve the opening of a new cafe/bar called “Bra Bokkie” to appeal to a better class of clientele, to be run by Dicky Jackson and her business partner B.J Cradley.
We see the end of Bel and Ollie’s marriage and legal-eagle Eleanor get her feet under the table. Eleanor has to be one of least charismatic characters in Brookside history: almost as bland as Leo version 2.
The storyline with Gladis and Elaine is just brilliant storytelling, powerful and I just feel so awful for Elaine. Even bringing a tear to my eye while typing this message and it's just a soap it isn't real 🤣
Dicing With Death (30th June 1997) Please Stop Breathing (1st July 1997) One Of Those Nights (2nd July 1997) What She Wanted (3rd July 1997) Stiff Upper Lip (4th July 1997)
@@antwto8784 Are you sure? I see Gladys holding the pillow, Elaine then pulling at her hands followed by Mick joining in. I’d say Elaine got there before Mick.
“And how was everyone down at the STD clinic?” Just cracked up. Ollie was brilliant.

Ollie’s reaction when he’s got the clap 😂😂😂😂
What a gent Ollie is.... Even closed the bar door behind him 😂😂😂
No need for the pillow. Mick should have just force fed Gladys one of his pizzas.
Haha. Recall Jimmy's reaction over the dog being knocked out. 😂
Just the thing for a dose of the clap!!!!! Omg so funny love ollie
@lenabena2351 I agree Ollie (Bamber) is so funny so dry his character has developed into one of the best characters
😂😂😂
Re-watching 25 years later, I have to admit he was a good character. Even Bel has grown on me.

Sinbad: “ It’s definitely one of those nights”
Yes Sin, one of ‘those’ nights where dead bodies get buried under patio slabs.
Bel beating the shit out of Mike when he found out he gave her the clap 😂
Jimmy suffering after eating the vindaloo 😂
Fairs fair Ollie. You didn’t help Mike get his book published, so he sleeps with your wife. I’d say it’s evens.
Now aye aye mike don’t be giving bel simmo the wotsit 👏

So that bald geht Dick Ronson still has the Moby? The thieving, no-Mark, slapheaded geht
Mick: We can't tell anyone, Elaine
*Mick tells first person he meets*
Eh aye aye!
1:46:03 Dr. Julia Brogan OB holding a session in the living room of Number 10.
I wonder if the sales of olive oil saw a rise after this episode aired?
The homicide rate in the Close has increased by another one.
Like a piece of wood.
Dick Ronsen and Ron Dixon 😂

Would have loved to be in the writing room when they came up with Dick Ronson 😂
@@spartybrearly7221that would have been gold 👍

I so want this Gladys story over
Bel really clanged Mike

What happened to Jonah? I've only just realised he's gone
He left in the 80s 😂😂

Unintentional comedy is the best. Ollie with the bleach.

Cassie is meant to be a full generation younger than Gladys?
As. IF.
Poor old ollie always bad luck.
Mick’s okay. Technically speaking, Elaine murdered her mum. If the bizzies start asking questions he can honestly say it was Elaine.
um technically speaking they both did.

Jimmy 😂
Hopefully that’s the end of Elaine and Cassie and the entire awful family
Jackie Corkhill getting pregnant doesn’t ring true. She’s pushing 50.
I thought she said 43 in an earlier episode.
Rrr8
Hated Bel glad she left...
Me too couldn't stand her
