Imtiaz Ali (born 16 June 1971) is an Indian film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for directing Jab We Met (2007), Love Aaj Kal (2009), Rockstar (2011), Highway (2014) and Tamasha (2015)
Amar Singh Chamkila is a 2024 Indian Hindi-language biographical drama film based on the life of musician Amar Singh Chamkila. It is directed and co-produced by Imtiaz Ali. The film stars Diljit Dosanjh in the titular role, with Parineeti Chopra as his wife.The film follows the life of pop star duo Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot Kaur, whose songs that were social commentaries or devotionals became massive hits in the 80's. this is an important movie in the history of hindi cinema...the story telling...the music..the animation...the narrative..everything come together so beautifully and creates magic...the fact that Parineeti & Diljit sang all teh songs and recorded live on the set is amazing and exciting and makes this movie sooo real...I love the fact that the movie is not sanitized to appeal to the Bollywood viewers...this is lovely ...we need such innovative storytelling in Hindi films...Loved how he used the split frame...specially the one where the police man was looking through the window and Amarjot is looking through the same window in the split frame...beautiful!!!!

Very surprised that why isn't any media channel speaking about the movie '22 Chamkila Forever' which had released in 2022, this was the 1st original biopic movie of Amar Singh Chamkila that had been made in Punjabi. The movie was made and acted by my fellow friend Deepa Rai.

Bollywood has not messed up Parineeti! Parineeti herself has admitted that she chose a lot of bad scripts. Glad that she is making the right decisions now. She was great in Sandeep aur Pinky Faraar and is too good in Chamkila! I truly hope that she continues to choose such scripts in the future.

Across the world hardly came across an permanent audience that feels entertained by double meaning music. Sir mix-a-lot had to have other aces up his sleeve because his audience wanted variety not just listen to song on female body parts.. Has the culture in Punjab progressed today ? Once in a while it ok to groove to a double meaning song but to need it as a constant source of entertainment speaks a lot about the audience rather than the entertainer. As correctly stated in the film the entertainer was in search of money and gave the audience what it desired in return for money.
So live recording of songs in a movie was done in a star is born by Bradley cooper and lady gaga!
Diljit is the best choice to play this character, nobody else could do such honest justice to Amar Singh Chamkila. ❤❤

I watched the movie. Liked Diljit. Did not like Parineeti. The film was too politically polite. And mind u I know Parineeti is a great actress. But it was not ... anything one could connect to or even understand what made Chamkila connect to her. That irked me. Worth a watch for sure... But nothing would pull me to it again.
When u spend so much time with each other it is natural for you to feel things.
This interviewer hits every wrong note possible in an interview. A very shoddy job.
