I saw Johnny in Melbourne Fla. and my husband surprised me with front row seats and my husband ended up in the hospital and insisted I go to the concert I went with a friend and
When Johnny sang 16 candles he stood right in front of me and had looked right at me I cried and felt so lucky! He truly was such a talent and moving
I do miss him and listen to his songs and remember my special moment!!🥲😘

😊Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge was one of the finest vocal groups of its time. The artistry in the vocal harmonizing is as mesmerizing, as it is inspiring. Their vocal tone, blend, and phrasing, plus their musicianship are of the highest order.

The version that was most popular in the 1960's was by Bobby Hatfield. It was credited to The Righteous Brothers. There's a live performance on TH-cam from the Andy Williams Show. It's the only version that's better than this one.

im just wondering how i didnt realise I knew one of their songs until i found myself humming along to The Worst that Could Happen and 16 candles. Now I find a whole lot of other covers they did like this beautiful rendition of Unchained Melody. Then I looked for more of their songs and realised I had been humming to their songs for years but didnt realise it was them. I wish I had found these videos earlier when Johnny Maestro was alive cos I would have come to one of their concerts. What voices these guys had. Their harmonies are better than some bands today. What a joy to see these guys performing. Thank you gentlemen!!

I’ve heard the original artist sing this song, in fact a couple of African American singers recorded it in the late 50s early 60s, their names I can’t recall but their versions were OK, Elvis did a pretty good job, I’ve just listened to Johnny Maestro sing it and he did a really good job, but Bobby Hatfield really owned this song, no one could match him and no one ever will.

    • @almanook3005
      @almanook3005 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It depends on the individual listener. They have life experiences others can't duplicate, and they react differently. The African American singers who hit the Top 10 bestseller pop charts in the first half of 1955, were: Al Hibbler, who hit #5 and Roy Hamilton, #8. The top seller was by Les Baxter and his Orchestra. I love Bobby Hatfield's much later version and he had all kinds of time experiencing different styles and ranges. There was also much advancement in sound by that time. The song is adaptable to many different vocalists such as beautiful John Gary's and even Harry Belafonte and they capture many different listeners' hearts!

    Woah, my love, my darling
    I've hungered for your touch
    A long, lonely time
And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
    Are you still mine?
    I need your love
    I need your love
God speed your love to me
    Lonely rivers flow
To the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea, yeah
    Lonely rivers sigh
"Wait for me, wait for me"
I'll be coming home, wait for me
    Woah, my love, my darling
I've hungered, hungered for your touch
    A long, lonely time
And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
    Are you still mine?
    I need your love

God speed your love to me
