Why I bought a Series 8 Apple Watch Hermès + Unboxing (ft. Oura Ring and Withings ScanWatch)

  • This is a bit of a different video for me, and a different topic, but I thought it might be of interest to someone. I also thought it would be fun to make something different (I recently purchased FCP and I've been slowly learning how to use it). At this point, I’m not even sure what my TH-cam channel is really about, but I know it won’t be health and activity trackers or wearables. At least, I don’t think it will. This was just a one off.
    Oh, and the video description: so, this is a video explaining my purchase of a Series 8 Apple Watch Hermès edition (I sort of feel like I need to explain and justify the purchase to myself as well). I spent several months considering different health and fitness trackers and eventually settled on this new Apple Watch. And I thought, maybe, the mental debates I was having over what would be the best product for me would be of interest to others. Hence: this video.
    Most of the actual video content is taken from other sources, which I have referenced both in the video and below. I think it goes without saying, but I don't own the rights to anything used in the video, aside from the short unboxing clips (11:35-13:31).

    I had a similar journey. Used Apple Watch since series 3,
    Got series 4 and 5 but realized it’s such a big part of my routine.
    Got series 6,7 and now 8 only in hermes edition.
    Its allways on me, might as well have the best.

    Solid video. As a small TH-camr like myself, I enjoyed how this was put together and how informative it was.

      Thanks. It was fun to put together, and trying to get it posted with all the copyrighted content 😅 took me three tries, but we got there!

      @@ScholarsRest yes it’s always tricky. Sometimes it takes me a while. Others, it’s faster. You’ll get there. As for watches. I always wanted a Hermes watch. I have a series 7 stainless and I love it. Maybe one day.

    very cool video, I appreciate the trial and error you went through to be an informed buyer, trying different products rather than sticking to one brand. Im a huge techie I upgrades my series 7 to the Hermes series 9 so its cool to see another Hermes buyer from a non techie standpoint.

      Thank you for the kind words. I wear the Hermes band each week and it still looks like new. The band has started to develop a nice patina though, which I appreciate. I have since bought another leather band and it does not compare to the Hermes with respect to comfort and quality. I much prefer the Hermes band.

      @@ScholarsRest yes I have one of their fabric bands called noir twill and the quality and durability is unrivaled. I will be picking up one of their black leather bands in the future

    I love my Oura ring! So much more comfortable than smart watches/bands. Plus it tackles a more holistic and wellness approach compared to other smart devices, which is better for activity. The cycle tracking and battery life is super awesome! And another interesting thing is it detects illness before you feel anything. Also, it was very accurate when it comes on tracking my sleep. You can actually protect its beauty without sacrificing biometrics and comfort with an OSleeve.

      I enjoyed mine as well, for many of the reasons you mention; and sleep tracking was highly accurate, though it isn’t quite suited for people who work late into the night (but I hear the chronotype update may have solved that). Still, the lack of reliable workout tracking is just something I can’t overlook. But for those who don’t care as much about workout tracking, the Oura Ring is great!

      @@ScholarsRest Yeah, definitely worth the buy! I got an Osleeve for my Oura ring. It's my way to protect my Oura ring investment. 🙂

    I was upgrading from the first Apple Watch. Initially bought the Nike edition but felt cheap on me (returned it shortly after)…so I figured if I’m going to spend several hundred on a smart Apple Watch might as well get something of better quality, material wise and the Hermes edition did not disappoint. This was helpful because I also feel this way in a professional, business casual setting. Hope it will help others who are on the fence.

      I’ve been wearing it to the office now for a couple weeks and it has grown on me a lot, and it absolutely looks more formal than a standard aluminum Apple Watch. But it isn’t just the band, or even the stainless finish, that gives it a formal appeal, it is also the face you choose. I’ve been using the standard Hermes Watch face and, together with the always on display, the Hermes leather band, and the polished stainless steel finish, the Apple Watch actually looks quite stylish. There are some things I’d like to see improved though. Like slimming the Apple Watch’s profile and maybe trying a flat display like the Ultra. All in all though, I am very happy with my purchase, like yourself. ☺️ Thanks for the comment.

    Great video ! I am going through what you laid out in this video. I love the health features of the Apple Watch. But it looks out of place in a professional office setting. I have ditched my Apple Watch Series 8 for a Movado Museum watch, Seiko, Citizen and Berthing watches. All the watches I mentioned look great when wearing suits at the office. My only use for the Apple Watch now is when I exercise and sleep. Maybe I’ll go back to Apple once they make a watch that looks good rather then a square calculator on your wrist. Again Great Video

      I feel the same way. Who knows, maybe Apple will collaborate with a watch brand to make something a bit more professional looking. 🤞

    I love my oura ring for sleep tracking and I prefer it to wear to bed than my Apple Watch Series 7. But I do love my Apple Watch Series 7 for everything else. Along with the oura ring. I also have a Samsung gear s3 frontier. I hate the subscription fee with the oura ring though.

    • @ScholarsRest
      @ScholarsRest  ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. The subscription is a bit annoying. It isn’t that it’s a lot of money, but the fact that Oura charges you for basic usage where other devices do not (aside from Whoop), that is what frustrates me.

      @@ScholarsRest right it’s like the price of the ring itself was bad enough.

    Why not space black?

    • @ScholarsRest
      @ScholarsRest  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The first Apple Watch Sport that I had was black and I never liked it. It looks neat, but it more formal settings I found it looked a bit immature. The stainless steel is timeless and pairs well with more colours of clothing and bands. My thoughts of course.

    Bro just buy the Apple Watch Ultra. It will look great with you on a suite

    • @ScholarsRest
      @ScholarsRest  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This might be true for some people 🤔 but my arms aren’t that big so I think it would just look strange on me. I do prefer the flat display on the Ultra though, so I’m hoping that comes to the standard Watch lineup at some point.

      I love Apple Watches but it sounds to me that you’d be best suited to a tag heuer connected smartwatch , you’d probably pick one up for about the same price as the Hermes Apple Watch ⌚️ and does all the health and fitness tracking you’d need .
