This is a wonderful series on so many levels. I find myself summoning my inner Spartan woman when facing something difficult. There is immense satisfaction in accomplishing something physically demanding at the start of the day.
Enlisted in the army and leaving for fort Benning after I graduate college this fall to become an infantryman and eventually going on to Ranger assessment (RASP). I will be using the stories of the Agoge as a sort of montra when times get tough. Thank you for the stories, I grew up hearing these same stories as a young kid from my dad who’s a retired Ranger and an avid history fanatic.
Also, my friend who just commissioned as an infantry officer is currently going through the Basic Officers Leadership course and then on to Ranger School. He wrote you a letter a while back and shared with me that you had written him back wishing him luck. His name is 2LT Brazier, and he is doing well and excelling as an officer. We both love your books. Thanks again
Love it! This resonates so much! Also, I miss working out. lol. I do walk 2 miles everyday to and from work. I love the idea of choosing the hard life though. It's a calling. Great video!
ΑΓΩΓΗ = ( pronounced *Α-WO-YEE* with the emphasis being on "YEE" ) ; there is no such word in Greek as "agoge" --- not the way the British or Americans pronounce it. Just like the word : *ΦΟΒΟΣ* = ( the Greek letter "B" is pronounced as the Latin letter "V" ) *FO-VOS* is the correct pronunciation.
Beautiful. Thanks from Switzerland.❤
oh wow i didnt know you had a channel on here. Gates of fire and tides of war were fantastic books.
The water story comes from the Apaches of the American southwest too.

David Goggins really embodies these ideals as an inspiration in fitness. He calls it "the psychology of savagery."
YES!👊
A mile run with a mouthful of water is a basic excercise teaching you breath control. You breath thru your nose & speak thru your mouth.
Love it! Altho not as much as you love wearing those shoes
