      Cash is king in GH.
If you are from the US, you can open a Schwab Bank High Yield Investor Savings® Account, the bank reimburses 100% of ATM fees charged by ATM operators. The bank will not charge a foreign transaction fee if you use this debit card abroad. Exchange rates on the given day apply.
      Other options:
Make sure your phone is unlocked. When you arrive in Ghana get a local SIM card at the airport, register it with your passport credentials. Ask to have a mobile money account opened for you on your Ghana cellphone/mobile number. Providers you want to focus on --> Vodafone and MTN. Look up their data plans online and compare pricing.
Open an account on *WorldRemit* before travel. Download the app from your app store.
If you run out of cash in GH, transfer money to your mobile money account. There are transaction fees when you take that money out from an agent in GH.
If that is worrisome, then transfer the money to a bank linked to WorldRemit for cash pickup in GH. Just note that you will have to secure that cash properly; petty thievery happens.
Another option is to register on *Remitly*. Download the app from your app store. Same thing as above, allows you to send money to your mobile money account or cash pickup.
You may find that services you frequently use accept mobile money payments, use that instead of carrying large amounts of cash. QR code scanning may become the norm soon as the current government is trying to push for a digital economy.
