This looks so cool! I'm very new to programming and I do want to say I want to give it a try. However, I'm unsure of what programs to look into or try. Mostly because I have no idea what kind of effects other animators are using or incorporating in their videos that I would love to study and somehow change it and make something original. For example, the videos that a youtuber named Amalee makes for her music stuff looks really dynamic
I've been following stuff from Amalee for SO LONG! If you're trying to create music videos like her, After Effects is definitely the program to learn. What you're trying to look into is "Motion Graphics" or "Motion Design". It can be initimidating at first to know what goes into it since you may eventually need to learn things like Photoshop and Illustrator. But, there are thankfully so many free resources available on youtube now to aid in your journey and it's all about taking small steps towards your goal. Good luck!

This is amazing! So, I'm learning Premiere Pro and AE right now. I have an edit in Premiere Pro (and some AE comps inside it). I'm curious what the best way would be for me to add some of these transitions into my final edit? I'm still figuring out how all the linking stuff works between Premiere Pro and AE.
I recommend dynamic linking the clips you want to apply the transition. Then export that segment from AE (with the transition applied), and import it back into your Premiere Pro project!
How did you do the precomp hierarchy to include the grunge texture and light leak? I was going through every comp and layer trying to find where they got linked but didn't see it. I would love a tutorial talking about that, so I could then customize my own transitions with various textures, etc. Great job on the template!

Hey there! Sick video! Question for you though, what's the easiest way to add this as a transition on a longer clip?
I'm having trouble getting my clips to sync back up after rendering the transition, not to mention the audio spikes a bunch on the transition and it really sounds bad against the source footage. I'd appreciate any help you can offer though because the transition itself is amazing!!
Glad you like it, and I definitely want you to be able to make use of it! What I would do is cut out the portion of the longer clip that you want the transition to be applied to. For example, let's say I'm editing in Premiere Pro and my longer clip is 1 minute, but I want the transition to happen at 35 seconds in. I would cut out to the portion between 32-38 seconds, and then Dynamic Link that little section over to the After Effects project template. Apply the transition, and that's it! If you're using another software, you would just have to export it instead of relying on the Dynamic Link feature. Hope this helps!

Thank you! Unfortunately, this will only be available for the latest version of AE. However, you can use the doodle overlays for previous versions as they're prerendered clips!

As soon as I click on the main comp, it changes the resolution I adjusted before? Can someone tell me how to change the resolution to 2160x3840 throughout the process? And yes I changed the resolution in the compositions

Yes! However, it's a bit tedious and would require you to resize everything in the precomps. There are also shy layers you would have to reveal to make changes, and I don't recommend it if you're not comfortable in AE. A "cheat" is to just downscale your 4K footage, add the transition, and then upscale it back to 4k since it's layered with effects anyways (so any loss of quality is "covered" and only for a split second). Hope this helps!

Can you recreate transitions from Sherlock TV Show?
Hello ! I wanted to try this effect for a project (not sure about the final result, just wanted to try) but when I follow the tutorial and try to use the stretch flash transition,
after effects goes crazy and say "this project contains expression errors" with 3 errors, mostly for the wiggle effect.
I have AE 2022, did the expressions changed with the new version?
I just tested it with the latest version of AE without any issues! I recommend just redownloading the project file and trying again.
all the doodle effects and some other effects which are important to me which i want to use are missing it says and every time i import it its just a tv shuttering thing instead of the effect, do you have a new file or a way to solve this?
It sounds like the files are offline for you. Make sure you link the media to the destination path by right clicking the offline files in your project panel > replace footage > file.
Can you color the doodle effect transition?
You can add a tint effect in After Effects to change the color!

So i can only use these if I open and edit in the Arcane_VFX_Template.aep file?
That's right! However, you could use the doodle overlays without using the After Effects template. Those are prerendered clips that you can drag and drop onto your footage with your favourite editing software.
Damn, I wished those templates were in a chromakey video, would be easier to edit on other video editors

hey, how do you put these transitions on a dynamically linked Premiere Pro clip? I'm having trouble putting the linked comp within the transition comp
Hey Patrick! What I usually do is have both the PR project & AE project opened at the same time. When I hit dynamic link, the clips from PR will link over to the already opened AE project (in this case, the transition comp). From there, just copy and paste the clips from your dynamic linked comp over to the "footage_replace" comps. Hope this helps!

Not sure if this was touched upon in an earlier comment, but could you use the same animated overlays and transitions in Davinci? Or are they specific to AE?
Hey! Unfortunately the transitions are made entirely in AE, so they can't be used in Resolve. However, the doodle overlays are prerendered clips so they can be drag & dropped in any editing software that allows blending modes, including Resolve.

The template is for After Effects, but you can overlay the doodle effects in premiere pro with blending modes!

I wanted to use your template but it seems I have a problem... I download, your template and your 2 folders, I unzipped the folders and when I open the AE template it says "(warning): 13 files not found since last save"... But I downloaded all the folders so I don't really understand !

Hey! This seems to be a common issue, and the reason is because the files are now on a different hard drive than the AE project remembers it as.
Just right click one of the offline files in your poject file, hit replace file, and navigate to where the file is now. The remaining offline files should automatically relink afterward. Hope this helps!

I tried this on a longer video, by increasing the time line on the composite settings to 30 seconds, so i could have more video time for the transition and when i click on the Main Comps transition, it goes back to just 1 of the videos and like 5 seconds with the transition mixed in between... Any advise? Also my After Effects is very glitchy for some reason
Hey! I don't recommend stretching the compositions out like that, and suggest just rendering out the transition point. Then, bring the rendered transition clip from AE to your editor (Premiere, Final Cut, etc.) where you can place the rendered transition moment in to your 30 second (or longer) video. There are several precomps and hidden layers in the AE project you would have to adjust if you wanted to move things around, and it gets complicated very fast if you're not too familiar with AE.
How do u add rgb or colors to the doodles? And is it usable in premiere?
Unfortunately, this is only an After Effects project template!
I seem to miss 13 files when I download this, most of the main cool transitions I wanted I couldn't use. Anyone has any idea why?
Are they appearing offline when you open the project file? If so, just right click on one of the offline items in your composition window, and click "replace footage". Navigate to where the file is, and the rest of the offline items should be linked! This tends to happen when project folders get moved to new places (new hard drives, etc.). Hope this helps!

Unfortunately this is only for After Effects!
awesome work, but how do I apply this to a longer clip? maybe a dumb question, but let's say I have a 25 sec footage and I want to apply many of these transitions into it?
I'd trim your clip to the moments you want the transition to happen, and then apply the effect! Then just put your clips back together (with the effect applied) if you plan to keep it the whole 25 seconds.

anyone can tell me how to move transition so it comes later than 1 second after footage starts? i want to use it but with a bit longer clips
Easiest way would be to only trim the portion you want the transition to happen before importing into the AE project, and then slap it back into your favourite editor! If you want to keep it in AE, just adjust the duration of the main comp to fit your whole footage, and then line it up to when the transition happens before exporting.

It's unfortunately an After Effects project file, but you can use the prerendered overlays in any editing software that supports blending modes!

Unfortunately, the template isn't meant for 9:16 videos. But, you could still use the doodle animation overlays no matter your aspect ratio!

Unfortunately not, you'll just have to scale up the compositions and assets to 4k!

Hello. When I transfer the VFX Template to adobe effects, they don't work, supposedly I don't have the program fully installed, what could be the error?
I tried to move the VFX Template to premiere pro and got an error: I need adobe effects 2020, but you have it on video 2021
Hey! I'm unfortunately not too sure, but I recommend downloading the latest vesion of AE on the creative cloud.
As a very long time anims fans, my opinion is these super flashy things work pretty well in a intro trailer, it make sense because the flashy create focus and grab your attention. But in the actual movie if you do flashy often, my mind get annoyed by it after like 10 minutes....
I have many good memories with good anime movies in the past, zero of them do a lot flashy things in the movie, as far as I remember it. E.g: mononoke hime, even Akira an action it's Not a lot flashy things in it
