    I'm still pretty new to the sport(4 months) and will use that as an excuse for not having started isometric training till now but this was all I needed to get on the train. Thanks Uncle Todd! Your explanation is always on point. I'm sure you're a great engineer but you'd have been an even better engineering professor.

    I've been doing those overcoming isometrics with a wrist wrench on a pin stack. I put the weight so heavy that I can't budge it and then I pull against it as hard as I can for 5 seconds at different joint angles. My cupping strength has gone way up

    People, this type of specialised work is what will really turn you into a strong arm wrestler. Combine this with your general arm strengthening exercises such as Wrist curls, bicep curls, bench press etc and you will become a Monster.

    Static holds can be done with supramaximal weights where you basically use your entire body to get the weight to the preferred position, curls or arm wrestling moves etc, and then let the specific arm/arms hold the weight in that position for specified amount of time. You simply cannot contract so much that the weight moves of the weight is truly supramaximal. When it does it means you have increased your strength by quite some distance.

    You would think the bungee cable would also lower tension on the joints because its absorbing the roughness of the impact.
    So if your joints are the weakness you could go higher with isometrics without hurting yourself

    This is just what I needed. Been hitting a bit of a plateau on the multi spinner because my fingers keep opening up. Started statics last night, since its easier to hold the same # as opposed to moving it I'm able to hit the correct position/angle that I want. This also made me realize that the # I'm trying to move dynamically is a bit to heavy and causing my form to get sloppy, hence the fingers opening up. So on the dynamic moves I'm going to scale back the weight a tad to get my form more crisp ( seems pretty obvious in hindsight) and probably increase the weight a bit more on the static hold. Thank you uncle Todd your a gentleman and a scholar.

    Uncle Todd, I have a question. When working with weights below max effort(let's say your first set in this video) are you trying as hard as possible after you have put tension on the chain or just enough effort to keep the chain straight? Hope my question make sense... Thank you for those workout videos, they really help

    • @toddhutchings906

      I am just trying to keep the chain straight. I will add weight if I want to train more force. So light weights for a 20 count, heavy weights for a 5 count. Then I have a record that I can use to gauge my progress

    Why does the scale show more force than the weight being pulled?
    Also, you mentioned "static holds", isn't that same as "yielding isometric"?
    Do you think overcoming isometrics will be better or yielding isometrics for training specific positions?
    In the video I think you just demonstrated "static holds" because you could still move the weight around without going into overcoming isometrics.

    • @toddhutchings906
      @toddhutchings906  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have never heard the term "Yielding Isometrics" before :). Yielding Isometrics is what most arm wrestlers call 'Static Holds'. I think Overcoming Isometrics are far superior, but I cannot definitively prove it, yet ;)

  • @OldJalopyPuller
    @OldJalopyPuller ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a follow up question on this. If I'm doing single handed static holds heavy enough that I need two hands to get in the position I want would that be more comparable to isometrics? I ask because it seems like there's none of the micro movements you mentioned, all that's happening is my arm slowly opening up as fatigue sets in or I release the weight after the set time period.
    What are your thoughts?

    • @toddhutchings906
      @toddhutchings906  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're arm slowly opening up is the issue (yielding isometrics).... That's why we pull against a hard stop, even if it takes to hands to get into position.

    • @toddhutchings906

    What is the difference between static and isometric?

    • @toddhutchings906
      @toddhutchings906  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is generally agreed that Statics is holding a weight stationary while Isometrics is applying force to an immovable object. A static barbell curl would be holding the barbell at partial rep while an isometric barbell curl would be trying to lift a barbell that is chained to the floor.
