This review only shows in how a food franchise can prosper in other countries outside of its original "home base". I grew up in the States loving Kentucky Fried Chicken and even got to visit the birthplace of the Colonel's cuisine when he ran a hotel in Corbin, Kentucky (there's a little museum and a KFC outlet there). While the quality of KFC varies with the franchises, and customer loyalty, in this video the loyalty is AMAZING! Wow! Great review.
He spent 3 hours in a line waiting for 2 plates of food only to decide ... You can have too much fried chicken. Just order a Party Bucket for less money and no queue..... you will get the same feeling of ordered too much, eyes bigger than belly. Solo Travel Japan needs to get back to his routes, none of this USA crap.
No one in America would spend their money at a US KFC, we have Popeyes and Chik Fil A as well as other chicken restaurants. KFC Japan is clearly high quality.
I've always wondered why KFC is so popular in Japan for Christmas. Thanks for showing us the experience! I'm not a fan of KFC myself, but the Japanese version looks so much more appetizing than it does here in the US, even if it's still a little too much to eat haha. Happy Holidays everyone!
It only took one brilliant marketing campaign to make it the staple Christmas dinner. What's crazy to me, is that Christmas in Japan is more of a romantic celebration, rather than a merry family-oriented holiday. This is probably why there isn't really anything to do around Christmas in Japan, in the same (or even similar) way as in the west. No Christmas markets/fairs, no huge displays, no weird festivals. Merry Christmas though, enjoy the (what is it in the US) turkey? 😀
I love this channel. I was so close to visiting Japan at one point myself. I had experience with modeling and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity. That would've been a real dream come true to visit Japan, South Korea etc :)
I like KFC so I think that'll be my Christmas dinner since I'm alone too and don't really feel like cooking a whole meal for myself ☺️. Love your videos Solo!❤
I've heard for years about the whole thing with KFC on Christmas in Japan, so it's neat to see what it's about. They definitely have better food than we get at KFC in the US!
I live in Kentucky, and they did away with most of the all-you-can-eat buffets due to the pandemic. In an odd way, I kind of miss it. Loading up on chicken wings and biscuits was a craving I would get occasionally. Merry Christmas and hope you'll continue making great content in 2024!
I tried to get a bit healthier pre-pandemic, and cutting out buffets from what I previously did to maybe something like every couple of months had helped me do so. I had to keep from feeling I would miss out on something so I was overloading my plate. Even though I had gotten lots of exercise those buffet days earlier, I had felt a bit of regret later. So no regrets for that now.
There is still one KFC buffet where I live , Ive only been to it once since the pandemic. I really just cant eat that much anymore to justify it. Back when I was younger it was a great option not so much anymore.,
Wowzers - native Kentuckian here. I’m literally about an hour from Claudia (Mrs.) Sanders restaurant, but we went to an all you can eat Chinese buffet for Xmas. Isn’t the world a crazy place? Merry Christmas, Solo!
Thanks for showing us the KFC Christmas celebration in Japan. I have been hearing about this for years about the connection between the Japanese and KFC during the Christmas season but this is the first time I see what it is all about. Wishing you and all here a Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas legend! Me and my Mum watch this channel when I'm up visiting her when she is in bad health. It puts us both in a good mood fantasising about all the food and enjoying seeing how the buses and trains work.
I’m so jealous 😅 imagine an original American restaurant that doesn’t even do this in America, 🤦🏾♀️. I would love to experience it. ❤❤❤ Also thank you for waiting and sharing the experience with us, I truly appreciate it,🙏🏾.
Big fan in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee in the Southeastern U.S.A. We have KFC restaurants all over East Tennessee. Thanks for sharing this local Christmas tradition with us!! Merry Christmas everyone!!
Thank you STJ for waiting so many hours and sharing this experience with us! I hope you have had a joyful christmas with many good and tasty meals 🎅 🎄.
I love your videos. I get to see the food, read your comments and enjoy the scenery. That’s what I love about your channel. I don’t need to see someone eat, just the food. Happy Holidays and can’t wait what you got for New Years🎉
Merry Christmas 🎄 Great Video! Funny enough I made a KFC Christmas food video too and when I saw yours, i was like oh I guess we all eat KFC for Christmas 😂at least we PovFood creators
Kitsune udon is always good, but I prefer tanuki udon... for reasons! Was pretty funny that you needed that snack to quell your hunger while waiting for the KFC time! I'm a total sucker for abura-age (inarizushi is my favorite sushi!) but the crunchy "garbage" tempura bits atop tanuki udon are even more compelling for my palate!
A lot of people buy it to go, especially around Christmas. KFC here doesn't usually have mashed potatoes on the menu, so this is probably a seasonal special...
You got too hungry to enjoy it. But I giggled when I saw you using chopsticks with the Chicken. KFC is "FINGER LICKING GOOD," so use your fingers, or is there a law about not using your fingers? As always, I love watching both of your channels and hope to see more of your culinary delights.
hope you have a wonderful & successful New Year, Solo! I've really enjoyed your videos this past year. I hope you have more sightseeing train trips, cause those are my favorites. Also LOVE your Mt. Fuji trip. Love, from the US
Merry Christmas STJ!!! I just found your channels earlier in 2023. I like watching all of your adventures and enjoy your good sense of humor. Happy New Year and good luck in 2024!!
I think in the US we have learned to avoid KFC and their buckets of grease. But it did look pretty tempting here! I live in France now, and just roasted a beautiful turkey, worthy of sampling by you! Next xMas, okay? Thanks for this and everything else you share.
Is it weird I clicked the video because someone else is "spending Christmas alone"? It was just comforting while drinking my whisky and eating Cheeto Puffs alone lol
For everyone wondering why Christmas is so different in Japan, well, for them it’s just like any other normal day because all these Christmas’y things are 100% imported. The dominant religion in Japan is Shinto or Buddhism, and Christmas isn’t simply a thing they relate to from that perspective. It’s more like a romanticized part of the year they have adopted. That’s also why there is no Christmas turkey (very anglo-american only by the way), or similar stuff happening on Christmas Eve nor Christmas Day.
So, in Japan, if you're alone on Christmas, you go to KFC. Here in the USA, I'm alone and I went to an all you can eat Asian buffet. Merry Christmas, safe travels, and Love from NC, USA
Japan always has the best food! In Canada that wafu chicken burger would be $8.99 alone. And the all you can eat meal would be $30, so about the same as 3,000 yen.
I cannot believe how much different KFC in japan is from KFC in the US. In a good way. It doesn't even look the same. Two of us tried it after we went to the Ghilbi Museum and it was fantastic.
Had to laugh hearing the Muzak version of Wham’s pseudo Christmas tune. I heard about that fun fact from Dogen. You guys are missing out on some pretty music. 😄 Merry Christmas and may God bless you. Have a wonderful new year.
Japan and most countries in Europe surely is different on christmas. Very few people eats American fast food on christmas eve in Europe. It´s a day of homemade food.
It is so strange, for me, to learn that in Japan, during Xmas you eat at KFC...I'm italian and for us Xmas is a day in which you stay home, eating with your family only.😊
People in the U.S. would NEVER tolerate a 3 hour wait for KFC! They’d go to Popeyes or El Pollo Loco . . . drive-thru. I personally would not wait that long even for all-you-can-eat, just buy a family size bucket with all the sides and go sit at home . . . We don’t get all the fancy cakes and coffee jelly here . . . no reservations for Christmas either! WTF?! 😂😘
There are 3 things that are absolute to every STJ food video:
1. Good food
2. Good atmosphere
3. Crying child
CURRY RICE
Thank you, my friend, for taking me to so many interesting places. Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
It's amazing what one man started 50 years ago, became a tradition for a lot of Japanese people.

because the japanese doesn't have an oven big enough for a turkey, so they substitute it with chicken instead, thus the KFC is popular
@flows30 that's one of the most ridiculous claims I've read in a while.
@@flows30 Drop your source for that claim
@@flows30the substitute part is correct but not because oven. But because there's no turkey in Japan.

It's KFC, its never better...anywhere.

@peteuist yes, absolutely I live in a large city with a big Asian community, and their version is far superior, and far cheaper..

We were just discussing earlier that we missed the all you can eat buffet. They always had hominy, and you don't ever see that anywhere.
There is still one KFC buffet where I live , Ive only been to it once since the pandemic. I really just cant eat that much anymore to justify it. Back when I was younger it was a great option not so much anymore.,
Floors and tables were always greasy a those buffets. But so delicious and I loved them!
Merry Christmas Solo and Thanks for always taking us along.. God Bless and be safe.

Happy Holidays friend! Thanks for this year of videos, and here's to great success in the New Year!

My Christmas dinner was a salami sandwich and Pringles. It's my second Christmas alone, and not happy. I hope you enjoyed your holiday.
Why is that ?

Been there before. Been in the hospital, and been in jail for Christmas. Cheer up life's too short to be miserable.
Hope things get better for you soon.
Our KFC is closed on Christmas here in the states. The KFC in Japan looks so much better than what we have. Enjoy!
This is fast food. It kind of hurts my head to see it prepared so delicately. Great video! Merry Christmas to you and yours! ^_^ Cheers!

Merry Christmas! Thanks for stuffing yourself with Chicken on our behalf!😂
