She was good looking, with a high forehead that showed her strength of character and intelligence. She had admirable qualities other than being a good mother. To me peter 3 was not ugly, and had good ideas for Russia, but was not smart enough to learn Russian and endear himself with the Russians and not enforce his ideas too early.

Peter III's only fault was pissing off the nobility. That's why he and his son got assassinated that quickly. People loved him and preferred him to Catherine, who was hated. The largest peasant uprising in Russian History happened under her rule by a guy pretending to be Peter III. Catherine was a terrible ruler for anyone, but the nobility and was barely, if ever, in control, with Orlov and Potemkin ruling in her stead.

His values were in many ways quite progressive, and very much in line with his wife's. But he went about translating them into policy in the most idiotic way imaginable, that is, by issuing fiat after fiat without giving any consideration to how they would be received. By contrast, Peter the Great, despite his reputation as a tyrant, only launched his reform program after creating a class of "new men," talented technocrats passionately loyal to him.

No. Not at the time nor even up to recent even here in the USA. Only with the Millennials and Gen Z people would many feel as you do. In Western Culture, this was considered a BIG NEGATIVE on her legacy. Also probably what killed her unexpectedly. Young with old in that sort of interaction is dangerous for the old fat person she became. She liked super fit soldiers, that is a bad combination. Old men with young women can create heart attacks, and death. It's a stupid way to die.

The reign of Catherine II was not really the Golden Age of Russia at all. She really wanted to make big reforms. But she was a usurper and illegally occupied the throne. She was afraid in any way to become uncomfortable for the nobility. And the reforms were a real threat specifically for the nobles. The liberation of the peasants could be a real disaster for the nobility. And Catherine never realized her dream, because she was afraid that she would simply be killed. Throughout her reign, she was afraid of being removed from the throne and tried in every possible way to please the elite class. She really expanded the territory of the Russian Empire, but this can hardly be called a good deed, because it was expansion. Alexander the First, her grandson also tried to implement reforms, he created the Constitution for Russia. But this document was not adopted. After Napoleonic Wars, Alexander the First became the constitutional monarch in Poland. But not in Russia. He provided Finland with its own parliament, its own coat of arms and Finnish language, and subsequently this largely contributed to the separation of Finland from Russia after the abdication of Nicholas II. Since Alexander the First, as emperor, entered into a personal agreement with Finland. Therefore, when the Russian Empire did not have an emperor, Finland automatically freed itself. As for the reforms, only the great-nephew of Alexander the First and son of Nicolas I (another Catherine's grandson), Alexander the Second, decided to implement them. But under Alexander III, the reforms were completely destroyed, which led Russia to the 1917 revolution.
