    I waited and waited to find the right price on the ones I have now - but to think it was this easy to make them and I could have had them sooner. This is a perfect gift idea.

      +Patricia Keele Haha! They do take a bit of effort, but the price is cheap! I agree that they'd make great gifts! I'm considering making several for Christmas gifts.

    It's much easier to use the string from the end of the skein. You use it from the inside out and you don't have your skin rolling around while your pulling the yarn.

      Corena Garoutte My OCD kicked in as soon as she started the yarn from the outside of the skin

      Lawrence Click I crochet and I use the yarn from the outside. It’s easier for me with my tension.🤷🏽‍♀️plus I can gauge how much yarn I’m using better than if I use the middle strand.

    Much easier if you take the yard from the center of the instead of the side

    Hi, Thanks for the tips, but I found it much easier to buy a second hand all wool merino sweater and made the balls from that. I washed it first, cut it up and used a needle and thread to help it keep its ball shape. They do work!

      ***** sorry if you already mentioned it, but how many yards did it take to make the 3 wool dryer balls? Thanks so much.

    • @livewelljess
      @livewelljess  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Michelle G I don't know the yardage offhand, but it was one skein of yarn. I do plan to pick up another skein to make a few more.

    Great idea. Just an fyi, if you pull the yarn string from the center of the skein you won't have to fight with the constant unlooping. My mom is a knitter and tought me that trick ☺

      +banda2323 Thank you! I tried that, but it didn't work for some reason. Perhaps this yarn was defective, haha! ;)

    If you pull the yard from the CENTER of the hank (you have to dig for it) it will be much easier to wrap. THANK YOU, I have lots of wool and will be making my own drier balls thanks to you!!!

      +MarylandMama Oh goodness, they last a LONG time, haha! I'm actually planning on making more since these ones are on the smaller side, but they should last for many, many months.

  • @ThePurpleAlphabet

    Woah, amazing! I didn't realize they were that easy. Great tutorial! I might have to try this one. What is the reason to use wool?

    • @livewelljess
      @livewelljess  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +The Purple Alphabet Thank you! You have to use wool yarn because it felts together by washing and drying the dryer balls in the pantyhose. It won't work with acrylic.

    • @ThePurpleAlphabet
      @ThePurpleAlphabet 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      OH, I thought it might have been something about wool that helps in the dryer. I see now.

  • @neddaaltschuld5157

    All was going very well until I tried to remove the dryer balls from the panty hose. On some of the balls, the panty hose seemed to have gotten embedded into the felted fibers. Any ideas why? Did I pull the panty hose too tight? Did I wind the yarn onto the balls too tight? Thanks!

  • @anitawawa

    Hi, I'm thinking of making them. My question is, the dryer balls that you can buy are so much smaller, like golf-ball size. Why are these so big? And do you need 3 of them?

    • @livewelljess
      @livewelljess  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Anita Bailey The dryer balls I've purchased are actually about the same size as the ones I've made. The more you have in the load, the more they move through your clothes to help dry them faster and eliminate static.

    the ending wasnt explaind very well.. so why are we putting it in the wash first.. do i do that everytime?? and when i comes out kf the dryer did u cut off the stockings or did it break off itsself onto 3 separate balls?? please explain i really like this method!!

    • @yarnkillah

      River Dragon you wash them to felt them. Which is kinda like helping them to compact and bind to themselves.

      A skein from Joanns is less than $5 and I get 3 from each. Or unravel an ugly 100% wool sweater from Goodwill. Much cheaper than buying and lasts longer in my experiance.

    • @odarisbrunk414
      @odarisbrunk414 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes 100%

    • @yardner1963
      @yardner1963 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Odaris Brunk ~ 😊 Do the felting process a few times before removing from the nylons. **Be sure to start wrapping your yarn really tight when you are about 1/2 way done to the size you want. BE SURE to have a yarn tail of 4 feet or more and weave the tail TIGHTLY thru many directions over the ball as if you are hemming in the pattern the yarn flows as you were making the ball. Make the “hemming” pattern loop over the outside threads of the ball at about 1/2” per hem. You will see the results quickly and know where you will need to hem in the yarn on the ball. Use a jumbo needle found in the yarn section of any store that sells yarn. Get the metal needle as the plastic tend to break from the tension you will need to be putting on it. They usually come 3-4 per pack for 4-5 dollars. When you make the last stitch in the ball drive the jumbo needle as close to the thickest part of the ball for the tail to disappear into the ball. Trim tail if necessary.

  • @regeniacompton4147
    @regeniacompton4147 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is anazing, but skeins of yarn have a tail from the inside that is how you start it. They are meant to empty from the inside.

    • @livewelljess
      @livewelljess  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Regenia Compton Thank you! Yes, I tried to do it that way initially, but it wouldn't pull correctly from the inside for some reason.

    Essentiel oil is very dangerous in the dryer!!! Never put it on your dryer ball!!

    • @danelleschuh-philippi706
      @danelleschuh-philippi706 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kati Mini as long as you wait for the oil to dry in the dryer balls before you throw them in the dryer, they are fine to use. A better option is to put the dryer balls in a basket with the essential oil on another piece of cloth or a cotton ball between uses. Keeps them scented but no risk of getting oil on your clothes or the very rare chance of them getting so hot they combust.
