Emma Atkins is really talented. She definately deserved her best actress nomination. I don't remember all the the details, but actually Charity has opened about her past earlier too, at least Debbie and Cain know about it. But I love how different Vanessa's reactions are compared to the Dingle ones. She is showing that she really cares about Charity, when Debbie didn't show any sympathy and what is more disgusting she along with Cain continued to slut-shame Charity ruthlessly for all these years despite knowing what happened when she was a child and forced to sell herself. Charity is such a lucky for having Vanessa now in her life.
Charity points out several key things that Vanessa doesn't pick up on, or is choosing to ignore: 1. Charity's past makes her the wrong person to fight back and win against a cop. And she knows it. They would shred her to bits in court. 2. She's telling Vanessa her story because she thinks she's found someone who won't judge her and who will care about her even after knowing everything. She's not telling Ness with the intent to get justice. Instead, she believes Vanessa, that she needs to unburden herself and start to let it go. 3. It is Charity's story, and therefore, Charity's choice whether to go after Bails or not. I love that Vanessa sees Charity in a new light, and her telling Charity how amazing she is is wonderful. However, she lets her own feelings of anger take over and get in the way of honoring and respecting Charity's feelings.
Vanessa knew exactly what Charity needed, she knew she needed to talk and for Vanessa just to listen, she knew when Charity just needed to cry and have someone hold her. Charity couldn't of done this without Vanessa.
I think this was the first time we ever saw the real Charity, the first time she could be vulnerable and not be judged. Charity wouldn't have got Bails prosecuted if not for Vanessa.
