Author Joseph Conrad dealt with the doppelganger phenomenon in his story "The Secret Sharer." Other writers also have been fascinated with the concept and what it might mean.

This is an actual spiritual thing called bi-location not a doppleganger. Bi-location is where your spirit divides with each half in a different location. A doppleganger is something different

Did I miss something? The waiter doesn't seem phased by the fact he just ushered a man and woman into a private little room and, turning around he sees the same man sitting by himself at the table.

My understanding is that he was so unsure of himself that he would have never made a move to meet the lady. Therefore an image of his brave and confident self appeared and sorta broke the ice with the lady and, and as he looked on, showed him how to woo her. Near the end when his brave self went into the house and disappeared, the shy man was able to pick up from there. The waiter didn't see a doppelganger, he may have seen another face. I think the older man recognized him at the end, because that's when his confident self disappeared and only he remained. The shy man was able to take it from there. That's the best I can describe it.

Dédoublement in French. Notice how he pronounces 'Mademoiselle' properly. Contrary to the inane and asinine convention in phonetics, the French 'a' in the initial or middle position and without the circumflex is usually said short (IPA: æ), like in the English 'pan'. Anglophones usually and gratuitously pronounce it long, when they could easily pronounce it short, as the same sound is widespread in N Am. English in the same positions. The same inane and asinine convention misrepresents the é, which is properly pronounced as a short 'i,' like in the English 'pin'; many of the o's, where they are pronounced like the short 'u', like in the English 'pun' ; and the final e, the proper IPA symbol for which is œ, which has no English equivalent. Anglophones also gratuitously mispronounce the intervocalic s as ss, when it is usu. said like a z, which usually is the case also in English.

Normally, I wouldn't bother to respond to a comment that's 6 years old, but your interpretation of this episode is so far out there that I want anyone who is reading the comments before watching to be aware of it.
Additionally, I do hope that, with the passage of time, you've come to realize that you're marching inexorably to old age and the grave yourself. There is no escape. Soon enough you will be 65 like the older man in this episode. The "dried-up old relic" is healthy, optimistic, and full of life! He hasn't forgotten what it feels like to be in love. He only wants the young man, who is like a son to him, to come out of his shell and be happy.

Trying to bag a woman was hard back then i guess. He would fit perfectly in these times where every woman is easy. Why is he sweating? Men take lead and the women follow, that's how it goes, they go along with all that you offer aslong as you show confidence. But these times i am not looking for love, just a quick fuck here and there lol

...and that's how easily they 'control' you - to keep your priceless seed flowing down female sewage gutters (genitalia). If you want some fun, try taking your time with them, just before you think you're going to finish - come out and go down on her and play around with whatever part of her you want for 5 minutes - then back in for a while - and do that - WITHOUT finishing - until she finishes - then you can continue playing your own way - for as long as you like - finish her a few times - and then have saved all your seed for the next time - no inclination reduced into a condom - then you'll not only realise YOU are in charge of your life - not any half-dressed female easily trying to take your children from you (remember women supply only temporary eggshells for your children - until they're 55 - and then no more - no wonder they con males in order to have an unearned home when he dies through hard work she'd done nothing for - but men can have children as long as they live - this is why women use their sewage gutters as much as they do to get what they want as soon as they can) - so when you can keep your seed until you meet the right woman WORTHY of it - then you're life will start to become the adventure it always could be...but women will try and ridicule this - to safeguard the gullibility of men...

Leandro D Creature Last response. Stay on your own path - if you choose to find out what is right for you to do - focus on that first - don't feel you're obliged to do what every one else (especially every 'mother' teaches their ego-extension offspring is 'normal' that 'everyone') does - do what you choose out of your own curiosity - until it starts to make sense to YOUR WAY OF THINKING alone... Then, when continuing along that unique path that only you are aware of the credibility of - you will unexpectedly - just by chance - encounter the one right woman for you. That will only have happened because you were on your own unique path and she - also - contrary to social symbiotic 'reality' - was following her own unique path - and you will each sense that there is something about that encounter that is so truthfully normal - that the majority of all others in this social 'normality' will quietly resent it and do all they can to 'fit it' into their symbiotic illusory 'normality'... So it won't be easy for you both - but - if you each remain true to your own unique self - nothing - EVER - can do anything about it... It may take some time for each of you to comprehend that manifestation of all truth is - but - that unexpected encounter may only happen if each of you - up to that point that can happen - have not really ever thought of it happening - giving priority to your own treasured path in life each having remained true to it REGARDLESS OF ALL CONSEQUENCES - and that is what takes the most commitment - forget all else - just enlighten the whole world by being totally your own unique self (so playing around with mutual masturbation [an aspect of current social 'reality'] whenever is slithers up to you - you should, in time, grow out of, moving above and beyond that inter-parasitic pointlessness) - and then - without any need to belong to any religion - you may start to comprehend what folk in history were really saying - as it will, by then, make sense to your way of thinking. Enjoy it. (no need to reply).
