The Bee Gees brothers started singing when Barry was 9 and Robin and Maurice (the twins) were 6 yrs old. But they didn't become famous till the early 60's. They also write all their songs as well as for other people.

They were already legends in their own time. This is the Title Track for the MASSIVE HIT MOVIE, Saturday Night Fever, essentially about the explosion of Disco, starring a young John Travolta and filmed in Brooklyn. In a stroke of genius the filmmakers decided to release this album before the movie, the album EXPLODED, top of the charts for months, then the movie EXPLODED too.

  • @extreamaussieguy2968

One of the sad notes of the Bee Gee's career is that when the 1980's came in they were pushed out of the music scene due to their link to Disco music and the rise of Anti Disco people with the "Disco is Dead" "Disco Sucks" mentality. But it was during this time away that the lead singer Barry was able to write some memorable music for other singers that went on to be chart toppers.
They did make a comeback in the late 80's and into the 90's which was great to see them back together and Barry continued to write new music for other singers, which did help lead the Bee Gee's to do a duel/collaboration with Celine Dion called Immortality, which is a hauntingly beautiful song.

Another vast hit for the brothers Gibb when I was knee high to a grasshopper. It is important to note the disco sound was as pervasive as autotune is today. People were suddenly lining up to do a song in the style. But you're looking at the unexpected kings of the genre, who walked away with the biggest Billboard prize since The Beatles the previous decade.

  • @mzphillips53

I just found you and hope to become a regular viewer. But I feel I have to tell you something about the Bee Gees. They had what I would call 3 careers. The first was beginning around 1966 or 1967. This was when I was 13 and boy were they cute. Also there were 5 of them back then. Those songs were :
I Just Got to get a Message to you.
    Words
    To Love Somebody
    I Started a Jokeg
    And many more great songs!
Then in the seventies they had their Disco years which you've covered pretty well already.
    Night Fever
    You should be dancing
    More than a woman
    And a lot more.
Then in the early 90's the had songs like
I don't want to be alone and
    One
    You Win Again.
    And many More.
I love the early stuff from the sixties. They were so cute . The have lots of videos on TH-cam from back in the 90s performin in concert, but I prefer the early ones when they were kids. The twins were 18 and Barry around 21.
Somebody else whose sixties songs that you might like is Tom Jones.
I'll Never Fall in Love Again
    Delilah
    Treat her Right
    It's Not Unusual
    Green, Green Grass of Home.
I hope this gives you some ideas for 60's songs you can check out from an old lady who lived through the 60's. : )
Good Luck. BTW I subscribed today.

  • @alexfletcher5192
    @alexfletcher5192 2 ปีที่แล้ว

They were part of the time and as definitively pop as anything you regard as pop is today. It's just that the content, the sound, or the musicianship, happened to be different. Paul McCartney once stated that pop music was the classical music of today. To invert that, classical music is merely the pop music of yesterday. And this is as good an example as any.

I’ve got no issues with folks liking The Bee Gees. That’s cool. It really brings back a lot of conflict for me. Disco was really geared for the generation before me. I was (am?) GenX. Disco was really a Boomer thing in my eyes. And it seemed geared for the slightly more affluent. We were just dumb, poor suburban kids in the Midwest. We didn’t “get it.” There weren’t discos where I lived. Maybe strip clubs lol. “Aja” came out in 77 if I’m not mistaken. It wasn’t like there wasn’t excellent music to be had. Zep was still relevant. Zep III came out about 78, 79 right? Disco just didn’t resonate with MY clan. It was “rich kid stuff.” We seemed to be wired more like Billy Corgan’s “1979.” A bit off-kilter. Restless. I don’t have a problem with disco or even The Bee Gees. They just didn’t hit the radar of the kids I hung around with. So it doesn’t really ring for me. Glad you appreciate them, though. I’m certain my viewpoint is jaded and biased. Edit: Zeppelin III came out in 70! I was clearly referencing something else lol (likely “In Through the Out Door”)
