What stops birds from eating all of the seeds?

    • @theCodyReeder

The seeds are landing in dry powdery ash, the hope is most are burred on impact.

Mix em with clay, maybe in the ballmill. I bet they would drop better and the clay provides moisture. They make things round here with guerilla farming and use hemp in those clay balls to shoot with a slingshot....😎 greetz from HUNSRÜCK

you could use an rc plane for that, when i was a kid, there was a guy at the rc airfield that had a plane that was able to drop a shitload of candy over the people watching. it really was a lot and it spread out quite far. so maybe this would work to seed out strips of flowers instead of one random blob :D

Linecraftman Who cares? Fly your drones and quads and helos all you want. Don't buy into that "drone license" and flight log bullshit. Just don't use it to spy through Windows and don't fly near an airport. Simple. All this stupidity about, "drones are becoming a problem, we need to figure out how to regulate them," is nonsense.

Sunflower seed cannon Cody. Just blast the seeds up in the air with a motar that shoots the seeds in a ball of clay. Use the air compressor and wrap the ball with wet newspaper. Place the ball in the tube after putting in some toilet paper for wadding.
You can use the drone for spotting.🐽

To determine the wind direction at altitude you should be able to ziptie a long thin stick to one of the landing gear and have it sticking out in front of the camera (beyond the prop wash) and tie a sting or piece of ribbon onto it. It should act as a little wind sock in front of the camera's view.
Also, I might suggest a horizontal tube with a corkscrew feed mechanism attached to an unlimited servo for feeding seed at different rates over a given area.
If you get a larger drone with more payload capability you can automate the feeding of seed at set intervals along a waypoint path.
Lookup the Pixhawk autopilot and its auto grid missions. It can use terrain following to drop seed at set intervals along an automated grid pattern of lad. Sounds like what you are looking for.

Two weeks ago, 86,000 acres were completely burned in Mati, Greece. This drone method of spreading flower seeds give me hope. If we're to reforest the burned land in due time, we need to look towards alternative, smarter solutions like these, cause we certainly don't have the manpower to remedy this situation.

  • @MikeRotzsch

Hey Cody, maybe you could make like "seed-bombs" that "explode" on impact, scattering the seeds a little more evenly and you'll perhaps be better able to control where you plant them? I think it would also be just very cool seeing you try to make them efficient (and safe of course)!

Alex Hermans I'm picturing popits from the 4th of July. Include some seeds in every little popper; some are pretty much guaranteed to survive just based off of statistics. Seed viability for this option would be highly variable, as many can prove to be fragile.

It is the name that we give them in spanish, at least here, maybe in South and Central America they use another word. People eat them here a lot, even in the streets, it is rare for a store or kiosk that sells snacks or food not to sell them, with a lot of different flavors added to them. I thought that it wasn't very common there, since I've spoken with some north americans who were surprised that we ate them. I am glad to hear that we are not the weirdos on this one, they taste really good.

it's somewhat strange seeing a drone laying an egg

Try making seed bombs! Seeds plus clay plus manure, pressed together into a fair pellet works well with a slingshot so maybe a drone also!

First Scott Manley with the wind in his video today and now Cody too? That can't be a coincidence :D

Drop a cooked egg or a tennisball or other stuff onto the trampoline from a certain height with the drone to see how high they bounce back, you know, just for science :)

Reminds me of how awesome drones can be. Wish I had some land to fly at lol.

You could try putting one of those lawn markers off the bottom of the drone in view of the camera to see wind direction

I like how the drone sounds a little like a big bee.

One more way drones could be used. If they could get one to plant seedlings would be awesome. Using a drone to put a fire out is totally impractical but mabe if they made a huge one capable of planting seeds. We could possibly use one on Mars to Terraform even.

    CODY'S PLANTING EGGS!
But seriously, that's a cool idea. I wonder about using some sort of mechanism that spills out seeds gradually, so you could control placement better with lower -altitude strafing runs?
