I think the reason Tattletail didn’t really go that far was because of a crucial piece of information you left out. The main developer wanted to make a short horror experience that people could play with their friends. One friend plays the game, then when they beat it the other friend can play because it was so short. I felt like the whole egg secret ending plus the DLC were more attempts for the game to add some interesting lore and make it a bit more popular. I’m kinda glad Tattletail did what the developers wanted it to do. Many games like Hello Neighbor, Granny and especially Bendy with the whole firing 50 people thing are seen to now be releasing games just for money and aren’t that good anymore. I don’t want to upset anyone, but have you seen Hello Engineer? I think Tattletail made the right choice because everyone left it on a good note and can replay if they want for some fun and nostalgia.
Honestly that's why I remember Tattletale more then any of those games. It was a game, it was spoopy, and that's it. It did its job and it did it well. And sometimes... that's all a game needs to be
I LOOOVVVVEEDDD the aesthetic of Tattletail! It reminds me a lot of the Duck Season VR game that Stress Level Zero made around the same time. I think both are fantastic "modern gameplay, throwback aesthetic" games. I really wish there were more like them.
Exactly!! Both of those are still one of my favorite non fnaf horror games (minus RPG Horror like IB, Dreaming Mary, etc). Hell I didnt even know about the free DLC until maybe 2020 due to no one I watched covered it! Would I like a sequel? maybe? a lot of the loose ends were perfectly tied up minus why Mama is the way she is. But I feel like they did what they wanted to do and end it at one game with free DLC. Tattletail is such an underrated gem from this era, even when it was the top of the horror game food chain.
0-0 the world really is a small place. Like when he said that the creator of tattletale also MADE donut county it blew my mind, and then he showed a list of games which revealed he helped make SONIC DREAMS COLLECTIONS!?!?!?! he has been in mainstream media 3 TIMES
The fact that Tattletail Kaleidoscope never gained much traction is something I feel is super unfortunate. I loved the original game a ton already, still do, but you could really tell the work that went into this expansion. The playthrough I watched showed only the very basics of completion, and even then, it was easy to tell that it was well done and absolutely terrifying. I'd love to see youtubers start picking it up, but since we're so far past the prime, I doubt that will ever be the case.
I think the tapes and the music were the best part of the game, they made the atmosphere so eerie and scary and it was really cool unsettling and made you feel a little paranoid after. I personally really enjoyed the game and it's definitely one of my favorite games.
Thank you for bringing Tattletail back in the light again. I know it would be hard to see tattletail coming back, but I’m just glad people still remember or care for this small indie game. I have a lot of nostalgia memories with the game and thank you for making this video.
@@crazyfuntimetazz Yep. 2014 - 2016 hosted some of the best parts of my life. The hype of FNAF, watching theory videos are so nostalgic. Destiny 1 from launch to Rise of Iron. Black Ops 3 Zombies hype. Then of-course, Tattle-tail like games aswell taking over.
You should do Bendy and The Ink Machine next! It was popular a few years ago, but seems to have died out a bit. With an upcoming sequel it could be interesting!
Oh god Bendy. To give the short version: Kindlybeast decided to take on *3* projects at once(Showdown Bandit, Bendy Chapter 5, and Bendy and the Dark Revival/Bendy 2), and after those first few flopped(there's probably not enough words in this entire comment section to explain why), most of Kindlybeast employee's left the company and squealed to the public about how they were being *horrendously* mistreated. So the above, combined with the lack of official comments on the matter, casually threatening to sue ex-employees, and OUTRIGHT STATING in an interview that they don't care about their games "get it done, good enough." has caused alot of people to dissociate from Bendy. Again, this is just the short version, if you want the full story your gonna have to do your own digging.
@@skaithespirit1184 They didn't leave, they were fired. Almost around 50 employees were laid off before Christmas without notice, which also adds to the reasoning as to why people began disassociating from Bendy. I loved that game, but that whole bit with Kindly Beast soured my image of the game. There's some even more scummy stuff, Mike Mood, one of the creators, also went off on Twitter and was the one mostly blamed for the whole thing cause of his mismanagement and he said some nasty stuff as well as lying or sugar-coating what happened.
@@skaithespirit1184 Huh. A game about a company that treated it's employees horribly was made by a company that treated their employees horribly. Ironic.
i feel a subject that was missed here is the Great Furby Resurgence around this time period - there were a lot of people starting to collect and customize furbies at this time, and the boom in furby customizing popularity made this relevant to more people
Honestly I really loved Tattletail, it was a huge interest for me back when it was out. I loved the DLC too, I remember watching it almost as soon after it came out. I really wish they did more with this game, I enjoyed it far more then the other horror games at the time, including FNAF. Not to say that I don’t like the other games but this one was by far my favorite for sure.
tattletail was always my favourite when i was younger. i must have been like, 13 when the original came out and it still makes me smile when i see people mention it. my friends were all very much fnaf stans who wouldn't give any other horror games the time of day, so tattletail always felt like my own little thing. especially when the dlc came out!! i'm really surprised so few people heard about this!! it was *so* good!! the lore, the atmosphere,, i remember watching the 8-bit Ryan playthrough a good five or six times. the video sent me on a huge nostalgia trip not just for the game but for his channel :)) great video man thanks for bringing up some good memories
I loved this game. It was simple and fun, didn't overstay it's welcome either. This is a good example of when a developer doesn't milk their popularity dry.
Learning that tattletail was partly made by the guy who made donut county. Hhmm nice this seems like one of those niche facts that I'm gonna recall more often then anything usefull that I should remember.
Honestly, I never really forgot it. I kept hoping that someone would notice it and play it. I didn't even play it myself but I thought it was really cool. I hoped it would experience a resurgence in popularity but it never did. Even after the updates came out. Idk why I look so fondly upon it. Probably because of nostalgia, Markiplier, and also cause it's just a good game.
I like how this game mirrored furby, it was really popular but got forgotten pretty quick. Edit: Insert generic omg thanks for the likes thing here. In all honesty am shocked this almost has 70 likes. Edit 2: ok what why are people liking this comment its just a comment about a mostly forgotten toy from 1998 and its connection to a mostly forgotten game from 2015
@@BlakeAtStake If you check the furby wiki and go to prototypes you can find a ton of prototypes planned for 2000, But where never released. Its really sad if you read offical furby stuff from mid - late 1999 saying "The future of furby looks bright" When the sales where dropping and very fast.

@Wowie Zowie everyone knows Furby tho ^^; it terrorized our childhoods and there have been a ton of new reincarnations, plus now people have "brought it back" with cursed and cute customizations and memes
another part is that tattletail despite having a lot of cool secrets never reached a point of having a hidden story, it wasn't good at replayability but also lacked sequel potential despite having great hooks, it would do much better if the sequel was just part of the main game after you getr the hidden ending, but even then, it would need more content to hold itself for an actual sequel
Can you make a documentary on Dark Deception? It used to have a pretty big fanbase, but now it’s getting forgotten due to the lack of updates. The next chapter should be arriving soon, so it would be great if you made a documentary on it before the chapter gets released!
Thanks for making a video on this! i have some things to say. Tattletail was one of my favorite games in late 2016 - 2018, it was genuinely my favorite horror game at the time, the graphics were awesome, the lighting in the game looked scary, and the gameplay itself was one of the most intimidating things ive seen in a horror game. and it targeted all of my fears, fear of the dark, fear of death, fear of being chased by a mechanical monster that could tear you into shreds in a slow, painful and horrifying process, but eventually i beat the game and i went back to play it again for almost every day, just looking for more things to enjoy about the game. when kaleidoscope came out, i immediately wanted to play it as tattletail was one of my favorite games ever at the time. when eventually reaching the kaleidoscope and triggering Rainbow mama, the same fear that kept me from beating the normal tattletail came back except tenfold. i thought to myself: what would happen if i was actually in there? what would happen if i die? would i become part of the kaleidoscope??? that was a question that pushed me to the point of never beating the kaleidoscope. it was that intimidating. nevertheless, i loved it and i might try to beat it again someday. thanks for reminding me of the hidden gem from 2016 that is tattletail. :D

It's interesting that not that many people knew about the kaleidoscope dlc, I'm pretty sure I watched 8-bit ryan play it when it came out, and he was decently popular at the time
I really don’t think the game needed to turn into a series anyway, it was satisfying the way it was. People wouldn’t have such a fond memory of it if they’d desperately tried to be the next fnaf when their game just didn’t have the foundations for a sequel.
Dude I’ve been begging for someone to make a dedication video to tattletale for so long that I was planning out my own dedication video, but it looks like you beat me to it and I’m glad because I don’t have a microphone that I could use in the first place😅 You’ll grow big time this year just keep up the grind!!
I actually did a stream a back in December 2019 of the full game and sequel! Sadly the VOD is no longer available, but everyone really seemed to enjoy it! The devs made a decent horror game and honestly i'd like to see more "Toy horror" style games again back from the 2017 era.
With the 2nd game releasing being almost unheard of, it really reminds me of Until Dawn's Prequal, The Inpatient, which was also almost unheard of by big youtubers as well.
I really hope this game isn't going to be forgotten. It's an amazing game, and as a game dev (a bad one) making a christmas horror game, it inspires me.
I believe that Tattletail and other horror games from the 2017 horror lets play boom will be to kids now as Goosebumps books were to me in my childhood. There really is something to be said for the creepy, scary and unknown, and these elements really help to round out a person's media pallet. I'm glad they existed, even if the market was horribly oversaturated for a while there.

I love hearing from tattletail. I really liked to watch lets plays of it, I'm a bit of a scaredy-cat playing those games myself. I don't know if you did because I didn't see it but maybe credit chaoticcaninineculture and that animator for some of the animated pieces in the video:) Gosh it has been so long already...
I swear everytime I go on Happy Wheels there's always gonna be a level titled something like "IMPOSSIBLE SPIKE FALL for Gray" or "Gray bottle run" or "Rope Swing for Gray"
Tattletale will always be my favourite horror game. To me it perfectly encapsulates what it feels like to be in a nightmare it has that perfect vibe of confusion, lack of control and despite tattletale almost always being really close to you his voice almost sounds distant like when some talks at a normal pitch but they are a bit far away so it come across quieter dispite knowing the’re not whispering. Do you get the vibe I’m talking about?
Tattletail was definitely deserving of a video, because there has been literally nothing new for Tattletail in years ever since the Kaleidoscope Expansion. Also, I do believe Doki Doki Literature Club should also be deserving of a video, because of the fact it became insanely popular around the indie horror trend, popularized the self aware AI dating sim horror concept, and was intended to have something HUGE for it called Project Libitina, having so many cryptic hidden messages within it's game files, and even planned for whatever this huge project was, for a 2018 release, but instead we got silence, nothing ever happened. You should also do Bendy and the Ink Machine as well, as it was insanely big for it's time as well, and was always rivaled with FNaF in both popularity and for fun. Bendy even having a crossover with Hello Neighbor in the past.
bro i was obsessed with that game 5 years ago, like I made tattletails using furbys and I even mastered a tattletail impression. I remember all the music aswell. I was so sad when songs started stoping coming out, and my roblox tattletail roleplay was getting boring, so I stopped. Ahh... That game was my childhood.
Considering how much i was afraid of my furby when I was a child in the 90s, yeah I love tattletail. I revisit markiplier's playthrough every so often. The house is so nostalgic for me on it's own, add in the tattletail gears that sound just like those old furbys and the never shutting up, yeah I think the market for the game was very niche for kids in the 90s who were scared of their furbys. if you weren't in that demographic you'd forget about the game very quickly. It hit a number of us a lot harder than the majority. I know I was jumping up and down with excitement at how perfectly they captured the feeling of being a kid in the 90s, what everything looked like around you, all the colors, specific lights, the way the basement was just nothing but storage with zero attempt at making it look homey, the fridge, even the fuckin flashlight was perfect. That's why I think people lost interest, not because youtubers stopped talking about it, but because the true audience just wasn't big enough.
We got old! It was created for just us. The Furby owners or those of us who owned any of the "creepy" electronic pets that had the learning technology from that time period. We kinda moved on and got old, laughing at ourselves going "I can't believe I was afraid of my Furby!" Although let's be honest... They kinda were creepy and you could teach em swear words! It died out because we moved on. Gen Z doesn't have the fond memories that we do and that's okay! In fact maybe that's better off.
@@operator2393 it's damned close yeah! The front door just leads into a branching hallway with another hallway next to it for the bedrooms, a weird design choice but oh well.
I did actually come up with a film idea for this movie. It's basically continuing the story where our main character is and Adult who still lives in his house but is moving out. He finds the Mamma Tattletale and some old ones, the Mamma he discards whilst he gifts the daughter of the new family the main tattletale, which he's named Monty. But after mysterious murders in that same neighborhood, including the death of the parents, our main character (I haven't come up with a name for them), with the help of the girl, Rachel, Monty, and all other surviving tattletale to find and finish off Mamma for good

Same they were very unsettling and the aesthetic look had a huge play in it

Man I loved Tattletail
I loved how it was essentially a horror Furby game

@@skaithespirit1184 wait but BATDM is still being made so everything is still going good right?
He should definitely do bendy since I've heard the creators aren't really good people
@@skaithespirit1184 They didn't leave, they were fired. Almost around 50 employees were laid off before Christmas without notice, which also adds to the reasoning as to why people began disassociating from Bendy. There's some even more scummy stuff, Mike Mood, one of the creators, also went off on Twitter and was the one mostly blamed for the whole thing cause of his mismanagement and he said some nasty stuff as well as lying or sugar-coating what happened.

I really wish they did more with this game, I enjoyed it far more then the other horror games at the time, including FNAF. Not to say that I don’t like the other games but this one was by far my favorite for sure.
tattletail was always my favourite when i was younger. i must have been like, 13 when the original came out and it still makes me smile when i see people mention it. my friends were all very much fnaf stans who wouldn't give any other horror games the time of day, so tattletail always felt like my own little thing. especially when the dlc came out!! i'm really surprised so few people heard about this!! it was *so* good!! the lore, the atmosphere,, i remember watching the 8-bit Ryan playthrough a good five or six times. the video sent me on a huge nostalgia trip not just for the game but for his channel :)) great video man thanks for bringing up some good memories

another part is that tattletail despite having a lot of cool secrets never reached a point of having a hidden story, it wasn't good at replayability but also lacked sequel potential despite having great hooks, it would do much better if the sequel was just part of the main game after you getr the hidden ending, but even then, it would need more content to hold itself for an actual sequel

I believe that Tattletail and other horror games from the 2017 horror lets play boom will be to kids now as Goosebumps books were to me in my childhood. There really is something to be said for the creepy, scary and unknown, and these elements really help to round out a person's media pallet.
Bendy even having a crossover with Hello Neighbor in the past.
agreed
bro i was obsessed with that game 5 years ago, like I made tattletails using furbys and I even mastered a tattletail impression. I remember all the music aswell. I was so sad when songs started stoping coming out, and my roblox tattletail roleplay was getting boring, so I stopped. Ahh... That game was my childhood.
Tattletail was my very first Steam game, so I've got a soft spot for this game.
Wow. I never knew the donut county guy made tattletail!!
I’d absolutely love to see a video on Sonic Dream Collection. It’s....interesting.
But after mysterious murders in that same neighborhood, including the death of the parents, our main character (I haven't come up with a name for them), with the help of the girl, Rachel, Monty, and all other surviving tattletale to find and finish off Mamma for good
I'm going to call the main character "Matthew". It feels like this is a two protagonist plot where one character would act as mission control.
Thought of this game while at school while I let some of that FNAF nostalgia sneak into my head.
