Not really. Caleb and Austin are both good vocalist. The instrumentation was incredibly mediocre and it was pretty bad songwriting. They weren’t particularly talented musicians. I say this as someone with great nostalgia for Attack Attack and think their music was fun.

Johnny and Caleb *were* Attack Attack. That’s why the reunion of the band doesn’t sound anything like the old stuff. All of that talent got carried on into Beartooth and Bilmuri, as well as The March Ahead. Also glad to hear Caleb willing to talk about Attack Attack again, I know he had some bad memories towards the end of it, but it sounds like he’s gotten past that

  • @KennyKaz7

I loved Attack attack since i first heard it on myspace back in 2009 or maybe earlier, and i know a LOT of people loving it in the scene over here in Paris.
But since you had so much advance on that kind of music, most people weren't ready for it. Some will always be close minded and kind of purist because they won't accept change, cause most of people don't like change at all, but music has to evolve for not to die !
What you guys did as a band of kids is just amazing, so respect for everything you achieved, be proud. Love you all !!

How Caleb talks about it his time in Attack Attack is how i looked at it back then. I did not really follow them to much back then, but loved their music and saw it was teenagers having fun in a creative way. I felt they were ahead of their time to. Every time I watched their music videos or listened to their songs I felt the energy and just laughed how goofy they were.

I don’t think I can express how much Johnny and Caleb have been helpful for me emotionally. I mark some moments in time by what album or songs were coming out at the time. From Someday to now, I’ve been a huge fan.
I remember scouring the internet for news from The March Ahead after Johnny left. I remember finding Beartooth and Caleb’s edm stuff after he left. The scraps of news making me so sad. It’s almost weird to hear people talk about Beartooth and Bilmuri without acknowledging AA. It feels so strange to regularly have Beartooth and Bilmuri music so frequently now because there was an era that I thought it would suddenly end.
I wish I could express to both of those guys how incredible they are and how much I appreciate hearing their stories over the years, both in the music and outside.

Attack attack’s someday came suddenly was my very first metalcore album that i got like a year after I found my gateway bands. I saw them multiple times in 2010, including my first warped tour that year (i was 15) where i had my AA shirt from the merchnow CD/shirt bundle with a werewolf and alien signed. It was my first neon cartoon monster shirt!
I had that FILTHY shirt signed at that warped tour and hung up on my wall for years until I graduated high school and my mom still has it, the CD, and a lot of my other scene kid memorabilia in a box at her house.
Back then the whole scene thing was still kinda new and weird and was still pissing off the metal elitest and for a awkward 15 yesr old kid learning to come out of his shell, and ignore the bullies and learning to talk to girls, those weird ass bands gave me so much comfort in myself.

it's really crazy thinking about how far a good deal of the musicians from that era made it today, especially attack attack and the future bands they were later in, were hated so so badly back then lmao man i remember clear as day when stick stickly came out and how, while they still had a dedicated fanbase for sure, holy shit was it rough lol. the internet was a lot less filtered back then, you couldn't get 1 single "real" metalhead to tell you they liked them and yet they still were influential domestically and overseas
shit i wonder if anyone here remembers the video that denis stoff, who went on to lead asking alexandria for some time, uploaded a video of him covering stick stickly before he got big iirc and people clowned the shit out of him, then look at what he went on to do lol

The thought of losing money while making something totally different from someone else and not knowing the return investment is much more scary… even back then there were lots of bands that sounded exactly the same as AA or similar to AA but it is more about taking the risk and creating music. The reward of huge risks’ goes both ways, your band gets remembered for years to come or your band just goes downhill from the decision you make. It applies to the current scene as well.

I hated attack attack. They did have a massive contribution to modern music. Spawned 3 awesome bands. Bilmuri and Beartooth are two of my absolute fav bands. Both Caleb and Johnny are very special people.

Joey Sturgis and Brian Hood were the best producers of the 2010 era. Not even close. Joey with Prada, For the Fallen Dreams, Attack Attack, Miss May I, WCAR….so many others. Brian with first few ERRA records, Gideon, Sworn In, early Invent Animate. These dudes paved the way for today’s Metalcore sound.

It really was wild how much people shit on Attack Attack back in the day. Especially after the whole “crab core” memes started going around & pretty much haunted the band. Now people are all about em due to the emo/metalcore revival these days. Good to see them getting the respect they should have gotten years ago.

Do austin and caleb still have bad blood because he never mentioned him when talking? I know austin wasnt the best always in attack attack he even admitted it himself. Im just curious if they still arent on good terms even with the time thats past.

I think the best way to summarise Attack Attack haters is people taking shit seriously that was never intended to be serious. The only serious aspect being wanting to make a career and money out of it but the music itself was just meant to be fun

They didn't realize that they made a new genre that people will appreciate and love. When I first heard and saw Stick Stickly I was like, WTF is this shit?? But then after hearing it for 3 times I atart to love it and hungered for more ugghhh, the good times. When you started to hate it then eventually love it, good times, good times...

    • @ceej93
      @ceej93 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Except they didn’t make a new genre and they weren’t the first to incorporate these elements. But people who know nothing about music history love to assume their favorite band are pioneers. I guarantee you even Caleb would tell you they didn’t “make a new genre” please stop d!ckr!d!ng it’s really simple music this isn’t Mozart

@@ceej93Attack Attack! was just a trend that took influence from TDWP and went viral. Underoath laid the groundwork for what elements bands could incorporate in Metalcore, then TDWP were the torchbearers to first see success. Attack Attack! came after Prada and were just a gimmick, then Asking Alexandria was the final nail in the coffin to perfect the gimmick.
