We both now ride with the lightest DOT helmet in the world. This helmet helps eliminate the mushroom head! The helmets cost about $100.00 bucks and worth every penny.
Awesome! I got that first Harley half helmet a loooong time ago. As soon as I got id and tried it on.....It's still sitting in the garage unused... The one from Knucklehead Helmets is looking pretty good while still having some decent padding. Great review boys!
I'm 2 years into a "worlds smallest' helmet. 25K miles - wear it (mostly, not always) and love it. My wife and I both have the flat black - bought it with a peak...so we can snap on a shield to ride in the rain...other than that usually wear it no shield. I always used a half helmet -going back to the 80's...but can't imagine riding in a giant helmet anymore after this one. Thumbs up, gentlemen!

Nice job guys. I remember when I bought my street bob I was coming off sportbikes so I just grabbed a half helmet at Harley when I picked up the bike. I got home and saw myself in the mirror. I said oh hell no. after searching the internet for a DOT low profile helmet, I ordered an Akoury AK88. I absolutely love that helmet. light, strong, DOT, and I don't look like a Koopa Troopa from Super Mario Brothers. lol. Ride on. Richie
I like the small helmets but when you're cruising 65 down the highway most of the times the wind tries to get up underneath it and it seems like it's trying to pull your head off. So I usually just go on trips with my 3/4 helmet and if I'm just around town then I'll use a small one.

I've been riding with a Gentex 4th generation helmet. Current issue to USMC, UN, and other military. Gorgeous flat green colour (lol), and built to stop a direct hit from a 7.62 Nato rifle cartridge. It'll protect your head when a land mine throws you 20 feet in the air. *Heavy As F-* like wearing a concrete block, and a "Cool" factor even more solid. DOT? - hell this thing was tested on battle fields in Afghanistan, around the globe (the long way), and back to Iraq. Love it, get yours soon.

It's delusional to think these protect you from anything. They don't. I only wear mine, because I have to wear a helmet in my state. And I switch between a Fly Racing 9mm helmet and a full-face, depending on whether I feel it necessary to protect my skull on that particular ride.
I used to go back and forth between my 3/4 and full face. The day I wrecked, I was wearing my full face - thank god! I landed chin first, I still got pretty jacked up on other parts of my body but my money maker was just fine.

Just picked up a german style helmet from Crazy Al helmets. Mine does not look goofy, it looks badass but i g2 say im not 100% sure these are dot? Theres almost no padding inside. Says dot so the cops probably wont harass me but i g2 wonder how would cops even know if it is or isn't? I dont have to show it to them or let them inspect it.
All half helmets give that mushroom look, people are all ways talking about it, trust me nobody pays much attention to your mushroom helmet look, if you look good don’t matter what helmet is on your head, haven’t you noticed how a fine mama makes any helmet look good
do people actually think a dot helmet is going to keep their brains from being splattered? the only thing that will keep your brains from being splattered is not wrecking or luck . one wreck if i hadn't modified that helmet with velcro it would have snapped my neck like a hangman rope when it stuck on something .
dale - completely agree. I guess we are just comparing the quality of the helmet to the brain bucket I was wearing. Best defense is not wrecking but if you do unfortunately have an accident this should help a little more.

Helmets should be a choice if your 18 or older government should not tell you you have where one. I agree helmets save life's but should be a choice. Novelty helmets wont do anything protect you at all. Light dot helmets well protect top of your head which is more than Novelty well do. Still should be a choice.

I am told that about 35% of crashes on motorcycles involve the face and chin areas. Also that half helmets as you show here are often thrown off the user's head in a crash and protect not at all when that happens. I kind lf get that you riders in non-helmet requiring states might not want to be told by any authority that you must do something, but I would suggest that you would be just as protected or not if you just turned a Tupperware bowl upside down and secured it to your head with electrical tape or duct tape. The 120 mph type would be my personal recommendation. Happy riding, and see you in the nursing home.

You probably right that it is much safer to wear a full face. If I want to be real safe I could also lock myself up in my house and call dinner delivered when I get hungry so I never have to leave. You are going to probably take several risks today. This is something I am choosing to take.

Chin takes most of the damage. Debris could smack ya anywhere in the face. Unless its full face - then i dont really see the point. But then again, it’s better than nothing.
