Parrots are one of the most familiar of all birds. Because of their extensive use as pets they are literally found everywhere. In the wild the are birds of the tropics. There are nearly species of parrots found in the wild and the majority of them are found in Australasia and South America.
Characteristic features of parrots include a strong, curved bill, an upright stance, strong legs, and clawed zygodactyl feet. Many parrots are vividly coloured, and some are multi-coloured. The diet of parrots consists of seeds, fruit, nectar, pollen, buds, and sometimes arthropods and other animal prey. The most important of these for most true parrots and cockatoos are seeds; the large and powerful bill has evolved to open and consume tough seeds.
In India there are 12 species of parrots which are as follows.

In India, Parrots have different name in all languages. In Tamil it is called as "கிளி" (kili), In hindi it is called as "तोता" ( thotha), in malayalam "തത്ത" and in marathi "पोपट". This is a favorite pet bird for many bird lovers. But sadly, because of pet trade, wild populations are poached heavily. Their numbers are decreasing, so don't buy pets. These parrots have to live freely in wild.

I Love birds so much specially parrots, but I would like to share one thing that, Birds कोई खरीदने बचने की चीज नही है, जैसे आपको आजादी पसंद है वैसे ही आप birds के लिये सोचिये, वैसे भी birds की संख्या दिनो दिन कम होते जा रही है आपके द्वारा किसी पक्षी को घर मे रखने से उनकी population (संख्या) नही बढेगी। birds आकाश मे उडते हुए ही अच्छे लगते है। आप सब से request है की आप उन्हे दाना और पानी दे, और दूर से देख कर ही आनन्द लें। BIRDS conservation me apna सहयोग दें ।

Breaks my heart every time I see a shop selling birds in a cage. What kind of depraved people buy birds and lock them up in their homes? Evil, I guess.😏

You can tame cage birds very easily and they like humans if u tame them properly they wont fly away.
Wild birds are born in wild but some bad peoples catch them from wild and put them in a cage then they lives very sad and they trys to break

Rose ringed parakeet used to come in my place every rainy season eating fruits near our house. Sometimes they are more than 50 of them. They are beautiful, i used to wathced them everyday.
I can hear them shouting happily even while typing this comment.
Oh, that's wonderful to know :) They are very communal birds, always fascinating to watch the way they eat the fruits, seedpods and how well they communicate with each other !

Visiting Australia just to see wild parrots is in our wishlist, hopefully we should be able to do that soon😍 They were poached for pet trade and losing their home because of habitat destruction. beautiful birds ! thanks for the info. didn't know 1/3 parrot species are in danger. here we have 3-4 species in the wild ... but they are invasive species. population increasing.
Except for few species which are doing well, other forest species are in trouble because of habitat loss and pet trade ☹️☹️

Beautiful video. Wish I could see more. The area I live in Mumbai has many rose ringed parakeets. They are a joy to hear first thing in the morning.

Grey headed parakeet has a paler head than Slaty. Also grey headed has a lighter shade of green in the back. Look for the tail too. Slaty headed has a clear yellow tip. Grey headed is smaller too.

Yes, they are seen in Maharashtra. You can release them in a good forest patch with nice vegetation
These are Parakeets not Parrots. Only one Parrot species exist in India i.e Vernal Hanging Parrot species.
Our aim is to reach non-birders, so title is that way. Inside the video the names are mentioned for all the parakeets..
