      I love your reaction videos .... you are very sincere and you know how to see the beauty of music and you don't fit into a single style .... you explore other trends, especially from the time when we were not born but maybe we have been in our emotional genetics. You are open and humble to accept suggestions ... you have a sensitivity for music. Particularly I am a super music lover so much that when I was little I listened to some songs from when my father was little, when listening to them for the first time I felt like an inexplicable nostalgia, since I did not live that time, I listened to them in my mother's womb? or when I was a baby, maybe .... and I think that has happened to many of us !!

      Pedro Valente Yes, he did wrongly get the blame, but today it wouldn't be ok. The record company would still require permission to sample an existing song. It's just that today record companies have learned that it's not worth the expensive lawsuits. It's also much more commonplace, so everyone is familiar with the procedure.

  • @JamesInDigital
    @JamesInDigital 4 ปีที่แล้ว +113

    A lot of people say "he should have asked permission." People gotta remember a lot these dudes were kids and sampling often was without permission, but the songs weren't hits. It really comes down to poor management and shitty music execs not looking out for their artists.

    • @7thlittleleopard7
      @7thlittleleopard7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@docsavage8640 At the very least they had a vested interest in covering their own asses, but we gotta also remember that this was when a light was started to be shone on sampling being 'an issue' that needed 'weeding out'. People tended not to 'borrow' others' tunes before (not in a deliberate nod, anyway). Sucks what happened, tho.

    • @RebornLeveller
      @RebornLeveller 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TonyMontanaDS No one lost their minds except Queen's lawyers and the media. ALL rappers sampled other people's music back then. No one really cared about Vanilla Ice sampling Queen. Much like no one cared about Public Enemy and Ice T sampling numerous metal bands.
      Edit: in fact the only rappers I can think of that use original music are Zack from Rage Against The Machine, and the British rapper Akala. The majority of rappers back then and to this day tend to rap over remixes of other people's music. And that's not an insult, just a basic objective fact.

I met him once, and from that experience he is one of the nicest people in the music industry that I've met (I worked festival security for several years, and it can be surprising who is rude as hell and who is nice). He treated workers and staff and fans very well. I think he was just really young and got screwed over by his label and was left on his own trying to defend what they created. I'm not saying he has zero responsibility. I just think he took the fall while people who carried more responsibility cashed the checks they earned from him then left him in the dirt.

    I suggest "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie,..Note: Vanilla Ice basically has been accused of lifting the main theme from them. Both are cool but Queen and David Bowie should have been cited as credit IMHO.

      But pretty much every rap artist has used a sample of other people's music. Doesn't take away from the originality of their rap to the riff.

      Nicole Ernst Boris Queen & Bowie took him to court...settled out of court & did get credited for the riff. VI also stole another riff...from Wild Cherry. You’d think his people would’ve learned from the 1st time🙄

      @@kenwelch198 I think the point is that he did not credit Bowie/Queen and instead claimed he had written it. All rap artists sample, but they also credit who they have sampled.

    So cool you are checking out some of the vintage rap tunes!!! This song was an introduction for a lot of us white folks that hadn't heard rap yet!!! Other than Vanilla Ice stealing QUEENS baseline from their song, Under Pressure & getting sued for it, Vanilla was quite popular back in the day, & I cannot lie, I loved this song, & their dance moves!!! Vanilla kind of slid out of popularity after the QUEEN scandal, but nobody can take away the fact he was incredibly talented in rapping & his dance moves!!!
