    Blue Jackets: worst moment was getting fleeced by Flyers
    Flyers: worst move was getting fleeced by Blue Jackets

    • @honoratagold
      @honoratagold 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      With the added factor that the initial Carter-Voracek trade was one of several moves that allowed the Flyers to sign Bryzgalov as a free agent, which was a huge part of why they ended up moving Bobrovsky. (AND that these trades were made when the Jackets were still in the Western Conference, but almost immediately afterward the division were realigned and the Flyers and Jackets ended up in the same division. Just to rub salt in everyone's wounds about it.)

      But if you made that one big trade, it would acually be a pretty good deal for both sides

    • @andreistaicu8158
      @andreistaicu8158 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@honoratagold They moved bob because it became public knowledge that he won't be resigning with the Flyers due to the Bryz contract (the owner told the then GM to get a top goalie no matter the cost cuz they lost in the playoffs due to shaky goaltending, hence Bryz). He didn't see a path to being that #1 with them. When that news broke, his stock plummeted and the Flyers had no leverage anymore. They got what they could. It seemed that the Flyers intention was to ride Bryz while Bob develops, then trade one...big uuf there.
      To extend the tree, the two eventually made another trade, sending Steve Mason to Philly, who ended up playing decent for them for a few years until concussions killed his career.

      As a Sabre, I'm asking the same. And the pick for worst decision for the Oilers doesn't make that much sense, since Yakupov was pretty much the concensus best overall in his draftclass.

    • @meowza
      @meowza 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@JohnnyOlsson Agree. As much as I enjoy seeing the Oilers fail, ANY team would've taken Yakupov 1st. The Griffin Reinhart deal should likely be Edmonton's worst move. Or the Hall trade. Or the Lucic signing. Yeah, there's a lot to choose from.

      Chiarelli got us the cup tho. That pick they traded away was for Adam McQuaid, who was a great player in the 2011 playoff run and his contribution helped us get past Montreal in game 7. Horton or Seguin had to go and the more proven player was Horton who was also needed in the cup run, getting the game winner in game 7 vs Montreal and Tampa. But I’ll admit he could have gotten much more from Thornton, but his other decisions were justified at the time

    Vegas giving up a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for Tatar at the 2018 deadline was pretty brutal. Not sure how Detroit swindled Vegas into that when Tatar only had 28 pts in 62 games at that point.
    Vegas used him in the Pacioretty trade that offseason, but at that point his trade value was so low he was basically a throw in. To make matters even worse though, Tatar posted his best seasons since leaving Vegas. 58 pts in 80 games in 2019, and 61 pts in 68 games in 2020.

    I understand argument about panarin trade to columbus, that's valid point. but in my opinion the worst decision blackhawks made past 10 years was not making smart moves when it comes about contract extensions. I understand when your team wins 3 stanley cups in 6 years you want to keep your star players as happy as possible but you should do it smartly. I mean of course star players did major job to win those cups, but what was great about that chicago, is that they always had good depth players in all 3 cup runs. but after 2015 chicago gave too many huge contracts to their star players and it backfired because they no longer have room for depth players.

    The Wild’s biggest slip up is actually trading for Hanzal at the deadline in 2017. A few games before the trade, Jonathan Toews lit up Minnesota and GM Chuck Fletcher made it a priority to target a shutdown center to go up against the Toews line. ( This was of course, if the two teams met in the 2nd round. At the time, they were 1 and 2 respectively in the conference.) The Wild were 1st and after the deadline pickup, they started to sink. Hanzal was horrible for the Wild, it messed with everything and then they obviously couldn’t fix it, losing in round 1. I think about that year a lot looool

    • @kurtwpg
      @kurtwpg 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can never really recriminate trading a pick outside the top 10. You never know who you're going to get at that point and if you were smart enough to see Vasilevsky was going to be a legend, then you'd find a way to get into the top 15 and grab him. As would any othert GM who had the genius insight. But no, Tampa thought he was good value at 19 and got a steal. If they had some magical insight they'd have desperately traded that pick up a few spots to make sure they didn't miss him.

Tavares made clear he wanted to resign and didn’t want to be traded before the deadline, so the organization decided not to move him. He then pushed off extensions and allowed himself to slip into free agency and signed with the Leafs. It’s not that the Islanders didn’t want to get nothing for him, but more that there wasn’t an expectation we’d lose him until July 1 creeped closer and closer and no new contract was signed. Sure it didn't exactly hurt them in the long run, but it just seemed bizzare coming off a Cup win to start putting guys primarily on your team to fight when they never really had that mindset before, plus Brassard was never going to be happy on the third line, despite his third line level talent lol.

Sergachev is going to be a great top 4 defenseman for Tampa for sure. I don’t think he’ll be that elite guy, but he’ll be that consistent 40 point guy that hits hard and is a pillar in the left side. When he fought against Weber and stood up for himself pretty well I was really sad at the thought that he could’ve been his D partner.

    As a Penguins fan, I think you must have missed the re-signing of Rob Scuderi to a multi-year deal after he was washed up and the more recent signing of Jack Johnson to a multimillion dollar contract that was completely ridiculous. Yeah even great organizations make big mistakes.

    Regarding Las Vegas, signing Shipachov didn't work out, but didn't cost them assets. Trading a #1, #2 and #3 for Tatar who was eventually traded to Montreal as a throw in was 10 times worse.

    I would say Chicago's dumbest move is giving an aging Brent Seabrook 6.875 a year with a no movement for it's entirety, which caused the lose-lose scenario where Panarin had to be traded. But, given that Panarin got over 11 mil per from the Rangers, Chicago wouldn't have been able to keep him more than a couple seasons anyway.

    The Flyers trading away Bobrovsky is the most tragic trade in my opinion. The owner wanted to solve the goalie situation, so they signed Bryzgalov, the best goalie on the free agent market, which then led to the young Bobrovsky not having a chance to start and so the Flyers traded away a young stud who would go on two win 2 Vezinas for basically nothing, while Bryz ended up being a head case and huge failure as the franchise goalie the Flyers had hoped for. *Sigh* Here's to Carter Hart actually being the franchise goaltender us Flyers fans have been waiting for!!

    Ben bishop has been involved in several awful trades. Ottawa let him go for Cory conacher and a 4th round pick. Conacher played just 72 games for Ottawa, recording 25 pts. The bishop trade to LA wasn’t so bad, considering the contract issues and Vasilevskiy ready to take over the starting job, however, LA let him go to Dallas for a 4th round pick. A 4th round pick for an elite goaltender, who then signed for just 4.9 mil per season, meaning bishop makes about 1 mil less than quick

    We could argue that Vegas' worst move was trading a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd for Tomas Tatar, who didn't work out at all there, just ended up being a total badass in MTL after being traded as a cap dump. For a team in construction, it has to hurt to have lost three top picks for this result.

    i was kind of meh about the Skinner trade too at the time, but the current outlook for Carolina is more optimistic. Those draft picks gave them Pyotr Kochetkov (hotshot rookie G) and Alex Nikishin (a top d-men in the KHL at 21 years old). If Carolina can pry Kikishin from St Petersburg, that trade will turn into a definite win for Carolina.
    Just realized that this video is 2 years old. So given that, I'd say the worst move is a tie between signing Bill Peters and drafting Noah Hanifin over Mikko Rantanen in 2015. Imagine if they had drafted Aho AND Rantanen that year. Yikes.
