- 2022 Peterbilt 579, PACCAR MX-13, 510HP, 1850TQ, 18 speed, 3:25 gears, 80" mid-roof sleeper, ambient lighting, fridge, closet, esbar bunk heater, Carrier APU, MLU (Mid Life Update), 250" wheelbase, Silver & Blue, new 579, new mirrors, new dash.
My heart lit up when you showed the 18 speed manual Eaton Fuller. I was expecting an area of disappointment with this truck…thinking you were going to say Automatic. But no, it’s a proper manual. Beautiful.
This truck did look like automatic but I'm glad it's manual. Automatic sucks

Paccar are making a 15 litre 600hp banger for the Aussie market. The 13 litre motor is rated out to 540hp. Combined with a ZF 12 speed automatic, I know of people who are saving 100 litres of diesel/trip(1200kms) over the Cummins. Takes the work out of having to shift.
I drive a 12 speed auto/MX13 now but a few weeks ago it was a 10 speed/MX13 combination. I do about 400 miles a day and I conservatively estimated I save 3 gallons per day with the 12 speed. I do the same route twice a day. I go one way with an empty trailer and return at about 72,000 lbs. It pulls pretty good through the hills of western and central Nevada. If there are any O/O's or companies out there looking at this 12/MX13 combination, I hope this information helps.

Paccar only has the MX 11 and MX 13 heavy duty engine so far...i heard some rumors about an 15 l engine indeed
If paccar ever discontinued the w900-t800 this spec with a Cummins and minus the aero cap would be my top choice for a new truck

So weird that it has the 18 speed and don't have full locking rear diffs
I understand the nostalgia from the guys who prefer the 379 and similar models from other manufacturers, but I honestly find the sleek lines of the 579 to be the handsomest tractors on the roads.
I'm not a driver, though, so I suppose that the guys who drive could explain that it's more than just nostalgia that motivates the folks who prefer the 379 and similar machines.
I would definitely prefer to have that particular model over the 2020 ultra loft that I’m driving now.

Great truck. I drove a 2020 Pete 579 fully loaded. It was a dope truck. Personally though I’d go with the Cummins over Paccar.
Yeah Cummins is good but my 579 with a paccar mx-13 is still running awesome with 700k miles still.
I've never had paccar but have never been disappointed with Cummins. I'm definitely a Cummins guy, not changing now.

Any metallic paint looks good on any truck. Just keep it clean and some wax on it every now and then.
Keith is the horsepower handicap on the new 579? I have seen the older models sold off the lot at 605 2050 torque .
No, you can still get 605/2050 I just ordered two with the 80" bunks
I think the cooling issue is handled now. Peterbilt was restricting the HP and TQ due to cooling issues. I think we are all good now to 605/2050.
I don't understand why tractors don't come with tiny bath's with showers.
Just add a bit to the wheelbase.
And with truck stop showers costing ridiculous amounts of money (like $14+ dollars per use)?
It just makes sense.
In 2022, tractors should (and easily could) have everything a tiny RV has.

My only dislike so far is the outside hood latch lock....They should've built it with the hood release handle to prevent unauthorized access to the engine compartment...
I like everything but the digital display gauges. Is that an option or thats how they're making all of them now?

You might know better (not might..for sure know better). So, you have the 579 for those that want a more modern look, and the 389 for the classic look. Why did Paccar get rid of the analog dash? I would imagine that most buyers opt for the gauges versus an LCD on an old school looking truck, or do most buyers want screens?
To lower costs now they don’t have to get different gauges and switches for the 2 trucks they can just use the same ones
like the other dude said. way cheaper and easier for a manufacturer to just have 1 screen vs 30 different gauges and all buyers spec them differently
