  • ✈️ In October 2022, we went on a wonderful five day trip to Fiji on our way to New Zealand. We loved every second. This is a cinematic video report, including some drone shots with my DJI Mini 3 Pro.
Fiji is much more than just a beach destination. The people here are wonderful, and you'll soon hear people greeting you everywhere (Bula!). It's hard not to get carried away by the Fiji vibes. There are many things to see and do in Fiji. After our arrival and first night in Nadi, we decided to take the Yasawa Flyer (South Sea Cruises) to the Yasawa Islands to stay at the Navotua Homestay, obviously on the island of Navotua - very close to the famous Sawa-i-Lau Caves (more on that below) used in the movie Blue Lagoon. The boat trip with the Yasawa Flyer went very smoothly in booth ways, even after we missed our bus to the boat (and we had to take a taxi).
What definitely was one of the highlights of our trip, was to go snorkeling in the reef right before our lovely hut. Especially when the sun lit up the place, it was a magical sight to see.
    💡 Sawa-I-Lau Caves
The majestic Sawa-I-Lau Caves are one of the 'must-do' activities for travellers to Fiji. The ancient limestone formations, carved by constant wave action are hidden within an attractive little island.
According to legend, a young chief once hid with his betrothed in the cave after her family threatened to marry her off to a rival chief. Everyday he would swim into this secret haven with food for the girl until they eventually both escaped to an island together, where they lived happily forever.
The sacred Sawa-I-Lau Caves are also known as the resting place of the 10-headed ancient Fijian god, Ulutini.
Enjoy a scenic boat trip up to the caves is worth doing for its own sake. Then there's the magical experience of the caves themselves - venture into the caves, guided by friendly Fijians to explore the secrets within. The first of the caverns is simply magnificent. Light filters through a hole in the ceiling, allowing visitors to look around in awe. Those up for more excitement can choose to enter a secondary, more secretive, cavern via an underwater tunnel.
