Shorter hair being low maintenance is the biggest scam ever lol, i miss waking up & immediatley feeling cute bc long hair always looks naturally glamorous
It's funny you said that because I have two kids now and don't have time and cutting it short to a bob was not exactly what I wanted lol I told my stylist this is what I wanted but regret it!!!!
My problem is that I just cannot stop cutting my hair for fun in the bathroom in the middle of the night. But I am no longer doing that!!! Your hair inspires me
It’s interesting the looks people prefer. I think you look good in both but I find your longer hair with your natural color SO warm, cozy and down to earth. It suits your personality so well!
My hair is so much less frizzy since using a satin pillowcase! I don’t think you need to dish out a ton since you just need something that reduces friction..satin works great
Satin is a type of weave you can get fabrics in, it is shiny on one side and matte on the other, Polyester Satin is what you mean as the inexpensive option, because the silk pillowcases are also Silk Satin, there's also cotton satin but as you can guess, it's not as shiny or slippery.
During the pandemic i've seen lots of long healthy hairs, no heat, no color treatments and no big chops are some of the answers. Thank you Alana, loved the video !
As someone with heavily damaged hair from a decade of highlighting (a desperate and failing attempt to hide my greying strands) I say enjoy your luscious darker roots while you can, for once your start going the salt and pepper route, there’s no quitting the (hair dye) bottle. Your hair in its current state is everything!

Finally a growth video to which I can really relate. Not healthy hair just growing, but damaged hair being grown out. I needed motivation because I’m growing out my bleached hair as well... it’s so uneven at the top of my head because of the bleaching... So love this video! ❤️
I dye my hair every month orange, and it is managable. I dont use heat on my hair, never brush it wet, always use a hair mask and coconut oil over the night. It grows like nuts! But i have naturally really good hair and i know ppl that dont dye their hair and their hair is more damaged than mine. I think genetics play a big part of it
@@mateafilipova8292 exactly. I have never bleached it and I don't even own any equipments like straightener. but my hair is not that healthy. genetics and care plays a huge role.
Don’t know if someone already mentioned this but the Silke hair wrap is amazing! It’s a little pricey but I read that it needs to be silk not satin so it does not pull on your hair when you sleep. I have super fine hair and I swear it feels softer and fuller when I wake up, just wanted to mention it!!
I started following Allana a little bit before her blonde years and really loved it, but I’m glad she feels more like herself with her long brown hair, that’s definitely more important!
Ugh, I feel this in my bones. I'm working on repairing my hair since a stylist absolutely fried it last year. It's hard to keep healthy when I can't go to the salon! Beautiful tips (and ends ;))!
Yes the silk pillowcases will make the world of a difference in your hair! You’ll wake up with virtually no tangles, no frizz, softer and even shiner hair. You don’t need a fancy one, even satin will work. I’d DEFINITELY recommend.🥰💕
the silk pillowcase! I find that its hard to fall asleep if I'm laying on it. My head won't stay on the pillow, it will just slide and that makes it weird to try to find a comfy position to fall asleep.
As I just cut my very long hair a few weeks ago, because it got really damaged, dry and I lost a lot of it over a couple of months, this video is really helpful! One thing I found particulary useful for my fine, dry, not processed hair is long term masking! I shampoo my scalp twice(like a double cleansing), then I apply mask or any other hydrating treatment and I leave it on for at least 45 min-1 hour. This trick made my hair less frizzy and is now an essential part in my journey to long and healthy hair!
Hey Allana! I’m a hair stylist and I use both silk OR satin pillow cases! I saw a massive improvement in my hair when I was short and platinum blonde but now that it’s more natural and long I barely have to brush my hair in the morning. I have also told a ton of my clients to switch and they have seen improvements as well! I would try a satin pillowcase first and if you like it go for silk!
Yessss!!! Silk bonnets make a WORLD of difference! I have almost NO split ends now, even 2-3 months after a trim! It’s actually pretty crazy and my hair is growing really fast after being stuck at a certain length forever. There’s a bunch of options to choose from on Amazon so they’re easy to get and not overly expensive (fake silk-aka polyester-works fine). Silk pillowcases are okay too but a bonnet is a lot better because it actually keeps the moisture in your hair. Also, if you use skin products at night, the silk pillow cases don’t breathe so can cause break outs...I learned that one the hard way :)
I’ve had a silk pillowcase for most of this year, and I’m never going back! My hair is so much softer and more tangle-free when I wake up. There are some great options on Amazon, where I purchased mine. Thank you for your beautiful hair inspiration!🙌🏻
You should try the Curly Girl Method. I bet your hair is at least a bit wavy since you have frizz (and it’s super good for your hair). Would make an excellent video. :)
Please use silk pillowcases. With budget issues just use a satin pillowcase. It doesn’t just helps with hair, it helps also with your skin and prevents wrinkles. Cotton is a moisture soaking material, that’s why satin or silk is so much more gentle ☺️
I feel you on having to style short hair, Im tired of it. Im going back to long too, currently still in the awkward mullet phase though 😭😂 @laurimariaxx

It can no longer handle the bleach, so I’m going back to my natural light brown to medium brown color. I’m letting a professional do it since my hair is so dry and damaged. Thanks for sharing your journey! You’re an inspiration!
SO HAPPY you did what you felt was most YOU in growing it out!! AHH we have the same hair type (and colour actually) and this makes me feel so much better about my hair journey. Mine grows SO slow and it is so fine and fragile. I keep trying to get it back to my natural colour but it just washes out to that awkward in-between colour. Also, currently struggling in the mullet phase, lol.
USE A SILK PILLOWCASE! My hair is super brittle, dry weather and I've also been growing out my super blonde. I swear, the breakage has really slowed down since I've gotten them. I don't tie it up, I toss and turn TOO much and I think it caused more breakage. I just very loosely braid it and oil the ends with Marula oil and sleep on silk. Works for me! And I use the same brush! :)
With silk pillows it helps keep the natural oils through out the hair.. As opposed to regular pillows, regular pillows are usually made of cotton and they usually absorb the oils
I damaged my hair too much with bleach and I’ve been trying to repair it and I’m growing out my dark blonde/light brown with some grays mixed in, maybe like 10%. My natural hair is extremely ashy, bordering on gray I guess but I like it. I just cut off a few inches because I really couldn’t run my fingers through my hair and it looked and felt bad…dry and frizzy! I used a Demi-permanent light brown color to get rid of most of the ugly orangey tone that I had as well and now it blends in pretty well with my new growth. I’m so excited to finally grow out my 100% natural hair! I know it’s going to take 1-2 years but time will pass regardless! Great tips, so thanks beautiful lady!
The "electrocuted chihuahua" comment had my crying laughing throughout the entire video! I'm on my "healthy hair" journey at the moment, trying to save what was bleached to death before my wedding, so these tips are very helpful! 🥰 my ig is: @anicajo_
As a hairdresser these tips are great! I love a silk pillowcase which you can find on amazon. At least to me they are all the same, but it’s great for creating less friction while you sleep! But some other tips are: 1) DON’T brush your hair wet! Use a wide tooth comb if anything. 2) DON’T sleep with your hair wet. Hair that is wet is more fragile and more likely to tangle so save yourself some time and length by making sure your hair is dry. 3) Massage that scalp BB and increasing blood flow is great for promoting growth! 4) if you have to blow dry, wait till your hair is at least 75% dry. As a hairstylist for a news company we rarely blow dry hair when it’s fully wet. It’s a lot more damaging and a waste of time. You can get a polished style with damp/almost dry hair 5) dry shampoo is your best friend but first use it when your hair is freshly washed and dried!! Like makeup you set it with powder to prolong the wear, allowing the oils to be absorbed as they come out. Similar to dry shampoo you want to create that base instead of loading up when you’re already greasy....Trust me on this it’s a game changer. But I totally feel for all the hairstylists out there who have been affected by Covid. I have been out of work since March and have had to try changing career paths. My hair is the longest that it's ever been AND it's still holding it's curl. It's great, but I admit that I hear the siren song of the shorter haircuts. IG: DeenieMcQueen
You can try coconut oil, it's best for my hair. My hair is 3b, so it's dry and now my hair is nourished so it is soft and has become wavy hair not curly like before. This is the way I use it: Before wash hair, I use one spoon of coconut oil for my hair (the coconut I use is liquid because I live in Viet Nam). This is really important, you use enough amount coconut oil, depending on the volume and length of your hair. If over it's hard to wash and maybe make your hair oily. My hair is over my shoulder a little bit. After 30 minutes, wash your hair two times, and finally always use condition to clear hair, if not hair is always oily.

This is the way I use it:
Before wash hair, I use one spoon of coconut oil for my hair (the coconut I use is liquid because I live in Viet Nam).
I've recently tried the silk pillowcases thing and I wake up with very little to fiddle with. Big yes from this internet stranger @tanyyaf
not me screenshotting this hair color and then she says it’s old and needs a new toner

I have it, I don’t think it’s worth the money but saying this I only use the diffuser with it, I grab my older one rather than the Dyson 💜
I like you!! This is my first time watching and I really like you, you're honest, funny and one of the most real people on TH-cam, thank you so much!! You had me hooked when you said the key to growing your hair long is.... "Patience" and I thought "oh yes!! At last, we have honesty!"
