Montana used to be a place you would live in for privacy and cheap land. Now the out of staters moved in and no one can afford anything. Apartment's are $2k a month easy, house that were selling for $175k a year later are $400k. Sucks
@@nishadeanda105 SMH I bought my house in 2014. 3bdr 2ba and I'm so lucky I did. Mortgage still goes up like clockwork every year. $1300 is on low side for a 2bdr apartment in Missoula. Make sure you pay that rent on time. Otherwise your landlords could be fuckers.
My wife and I live in Billings, and this past year we hiked up to a glacier outside of tiny Cooke City. Throughout our entire trip, including the 7 mile four wheeler ride over a very rugged jeep trail just to get to the trailhead, we didn't run into a single person until close to the end of the hike. We wound up seeing more mountain goats than people that day. I love this place because we can go get lost in the mountains with not a soul around for miles and miles.
Cooke City is the coolest small town in America. I think thats what the sign says. Went snowmobiling there 7 yrs ago and the locals were nice and welcoming.
Montana, like other western states, is a colony, providing raw materials for the big states that run it -- coal, wheat, beef, and formerly copper and silver.
Which big states would that be? Montana is the 4th largest state. We don't have sales tax. I assure you we are compensated for our resources and livestock. Not a colony, but a sovereign state . A member of the USA but not owned by the USA.
I think all states do this to some extent, and sure some places use more while others generate more, but that's the balance of having such a large nation with very different regions. My primary complaint with Montana is the rising cost of living due to part-time residents from out of state looking to enjoy Montana's open spaces, pace of life, and impeccable nature (without paying their fair share into the states funding).

I live in the county of Kent, England. We are crammed in like sardines. I often say to my family how lucky Americans are to have all that never ending, diverse, magnificent country. You can motorbike, mountain bike, ride horses, climb mountains go get lost in the forests, the plains, mountain regions. You're very lucky. If I lived in the states I would try to explore it as much as possible. (not the cities though, cities aren't my cup of tea; whatever the country)

This kind of comment always makes me laugh when were talking about one of the least populated places in the US, I would say Montana is out of housing so don't move here makes more sense though

You can always tell an out of stater when they cant pronounce Helena. I live in Helena. No sales tax but we sometimes get brutal winters which is why lots of people leave. Make sure to have a block heater where you plug in your car so it will start. For the last week temperatures were between -35° and -15°. Without wind chill...some places were -70° with wind chill. Meaning frozen pipes and cars that wouldn't start. And icy roads that are so slick if you dont know how to drive in it...good luck. And the mountain passes close when they have those bad snow storms...
Charlie, I talk about all American cities and states here on this channel, my goal isn't to provide a local guide or a locals guide. Instead I try to highlight some of the best (and worst) places across the US based on one question/interesting factor at a time. I do try and give a good overall overview of the places I talk about, and I have at least visited most of the places I talk about here and even talk to locals when doing research whenever possible.
When Walmart or Amazon is your biggest employer, you know there's a problem. If you are a remote worker it seems like it could provide a good work life balance with its exceptional natural areas .
I think the data got skewed a little. There are tons of small businesses. I can see walmart being the biggest employer but thats because no other big companies have decided to put a new HQ in the state. I think that is a better explanation 🤷♂️

Ah yes, Yellowstone. A show made by a Texan, starring a Californian, that's filmed (mostly) in Utah, except for the parts that have to be filmed in Helena. Nothing screams "local" more than that. You forgot to mention MT had, until a few years ago, the largest ICBM missile complex in the entire world. When the 564th was active, the 341st Missile Wing spanned 29K+ square miles. Roughly the same area as Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, combined.
They actually spent 100 million dollars in Montana on just the last season of Yellowstone Matthew, so I am sure that stimulated the local economy to some extent at-least. The nature of my content is that I build my episodes around an interesting topic or question, and try and give an entertaining overview of whatever city/state/region I am talking about. I try to at least touch on economics, planning, demographics, and geography; however I am not trying to give a full breakdown here as that would make for significantly longer (and likely more boring) content. @@matthewb8229 I understand that its about so much more than money, but economics are important, especially when it comes to relatively small communities that do benefit from a significant local spend like that.
As a Californian who was a ranch hand and wildland fire fighter, I get told all the time to move to Montana and everyone started saying I need to watch Yellowstone when they found out I was branded on a ranch (this happened before the show was a thing) and I can confidently say most people would not be able to handle that sort of lifestyle. It's a very secluded culture and while I love being deep outdoors away from civilization I did grow up in a big city and still like to move fast a lot of the time. Don't move to Montana and make the state you live in a better place, if you want to be a cowboy I'm sure there's places with ranches and farms you can work at but know its tough work. If you do move to Montana adapt their culture and values, California is a melting pot so feel free to bring your lifestyle here by all means I want it, but them mountain folk ain't to fond of most outsiders, I was an exception when I moved to a small mountain town but just know blue collared work is honest but ain't easy. @Hoss Delgado my dad from northern Idaho and on the border of Montana so that's my relation to the state, but I understand even if I'm capable of fitting in, the cultural difference is still pretty big. But where I was at they were weary at first but everyone grew on me and I miss the small community feeling

"Don't move to Montana and make the state you live in a better place" In certain states, like California, that is absolutely impossible. If someone is a conservative in California, like myself, you either need to move out or adapt to communist agenda. And since I am not going to raise a family under these conditions, I am getting the hell out. This place really has passed the point of no return.

I find it absolutely incredible that a grown adult, not on probation or parole, would intentionally choose to live in a shithole such as New York, Chicago or LA when they could live in Montana.
That is because the original word comes from the Greek, Helena. Local Montana people just made up their own pronunciation, probably from ignorant miners and ranchers back in the day.
@@John3.36 Incorrect. The pronunciation is derived from St. Helena of the older British colony. While the Brits of olde may have followed through with such nomenclature, they themselves use the /həˈliːnə/ phonetic.

You pronounced Helena wrong. It’s actually “hell-luh-na.” I live in Montana, and I think Yellowstone, the TV show, is NOT the reason why it’s growing, it’s simply because of the shifting to remote work in recent years. This has allowed more people to be able to live anywhere in the country, and Montana’s natural beauty attracts a lot of people. I’ve known a few people that moved to Montana because they got to work from home. A lot of people from Colorado are moving to Montana because it reminds them what Colorado used to be like, so it’s a bit of nostalgia. I used to live in Colorado, and Montana reminds me a lot of Colorado!!
Can't believe there wasn't a Boz Angeles joke about Bozeman given its growth and the number of Californians moving there. Most videos about Montana almost always mention Boz Angeles. And if you think Bozeman is expensive, look up Big Sky.
As a Montanan allow me to elaborate. Harsh winters are a good deterrent, as we just had some -40° days. Its not uncommon to get snow 9 months out of the year. And with the rising popularity and people wanting to move here, housing prices have gone way up, and housing can't be built fast enough for the demand. Lastly, Montanans are incredibly xenophobic and don't want any out of staters moving in. Be prepared to meet people and when you say where you're from you'll get a lot of these faces 😬.
I'm in Missoula also. And Hopefully this year will be the start of the worst economic crash in our lives. And will drive most of them out. Especially the ones who overpaid their way to get in here. And are on borrowed time and borrowed money.
I live in Rhode Island which has about the same population as Montana in a tiny little area. The thought of living in such a sparsely populated state sounds AMAZING.
I live in Montana on Flathead Lake own my property and live for around $400 a month, my income is only $854a month. it all depends on how much you want to spend.. .

Here is the lesson. If you have a good thing, a good place, shut up about it. In fact, tell people it's awful. It's horrible. It snows nearly six months of the year and the sun scorches you the other six. Wild animals prowl on urbanites and every other day there is a new missing person report. There might be Wendigos living in the hills and evil spirits of long dead miners haunt every dark crevice. There is no good amenities, it's hard to get around in, and people mysteriously die in their old age. The air is thinner and there may in fact be things in it, and the US Government runs a huge missile complex in the state that will surely be a target for nuclear apocalypse greater than anywhere else on earth. Some say there are government black projects and interment camps hidden away in bunkers and aliens accidentally abduct people when they come to probe cows, happens all the time. In short, Montana is horrifying. A true wild land of nature and dark secrets that is waiting for you to make a slip so it can kill you. Go back home.
I lived in the SE corner in Ekalaka Montana a very small town you blinked you missed it and half the town was nothing but relatives. The neatest city was Baker Montana and in between is SandStone Monument Park .
I contributed to Montana's tourism once in a while during my 21 years of living in Calgary, AB. Friends and I would go skiing at Whitefish and party in Kalispell. Then we'd load up the trunk with different types of beer and head back to Canada. That was back in the early 80's when there was a sad and very limited choice of beer in Alberta, and some American suds were a novelty. Good memories!
My whole family’s in Montana mostly and I live in Texas every day when I look at photos I took when visiting keeps making me want to go back permanently to go to college and live my life there, I’m tired of the Houston heat and humidity for most of the year most of Texas is flat and boring but Montana is one of the prettiest places I’ve ever seen. When I move there this summer I will miss bucc ees and some of the great restaurants because of the great diversity in Houston.
I am from Montana and you pretty much have to have a lot of skills to not only live there but to pay the bills, especially in the winter. However, now a days working from home on the internet or starting your own business is a certain possibility to make it work.
Montana is beautiful, and the people are nice. I love the small town feel of the cities too. The problem I see is the winter weather. My goodness it gets cold cold. Wonderful place to visit, but living there is another story.

I'm a former, longtime (Kalispell) Montana resident, I have plenty of insight. High housing costs and low wages have chased many people away. Almost unlivable there nowadays. Greedy rich people took over the state. That Yellowstone show isn't anything like it, either lol
yep! Big money developers came in and are now ruining the skyline with their towering apartment buildings. It no longer has the small town friendly feel, roads are way too crowded, lots of people having to live in campers because there isn't enough housing. It's pretty sad to see what use to be agricultural fields turning into housing developments with HOAs. Trying to camp anymore is a joke. When you can't even go up a forest service road to get away and explore without seeing an out of state rv trying to camp off the side of the road in the summer. A lot of the locals had to leave because you can't find a job locally that can afford you a decent living here, just a bunch of rich people buying up land and fencing it off including what use to be public access spots. It's very sad and unrecognizable from my childhood these days.
I'm wanting to move to Montana after I graduate nursing school. The culture and values are right up my alley, as long as other people moving don't flip the state. I'm an air force brat and my mom dragged me to California when I was 17 because she got stationed there, I can't stand blue areas. Are there any red areas that would have a hospital? Looks like most the medium-large communities are blue. I love space too, I don't want to be packed into cookie cutter houses with tiny yards. And I'd like a strong church community. Is there anywhere or am I just dreaming? Please help
I personally feel like Kalispell (where I live) is still more red than blue but to be honest, Montana is not the state I use to know, in a lot of ways it's almost unrecognizable to me. We do have a hospital here but it's been known for being corrupt and not very good to it's nurses, I'm not in the nursing field so my information on that is very limited. I know there are jobs available here for nurses and I'm sure you could find a good place to work. Locals will be accepting as long as your not on board for trying to change things like so many people do moving from blue areas but also don't be surprised if you come across someone who might be less than friendly if they find out if you are not from the area. Space is a bit of an issue right now because developers are buying up a lot of property and building apartments, and housing developments that are basically stacked on top of each other. anything with a bit of space from neighbors is going to be $400k+ and it's hard these days to even find a rental with any space and when you do your looking at well over 2k-3k a month for rent...A lot of locals have been run out of the state by this issue and I will say there are a lot of us that feel frustrated with the transplants but we also understand why you come here, if your a good person just trying to find a better life and you like our way of life and are possibly willing to help us uphold the local culture your going to find that you will be easily accepted. We also have an abundance of churches, some are good and some not so much but there are a lot to choose from depending on your beliefs. I would just absolutely recommend doing your research before moving here.

I had applied to a police department in Montana last year from out of state. Unfortunately, I didn’t pass the physical fitness test by 20 seconds. I was only up there for 3 days, but I fell in love with the area. Went to Glacier National Park, ate at a handful of wonderful mom and pop restaurants that served food better than I’ve ever had. What more, the people are genuinely kind. I can tell it’s very neighborly. My girlfriend is apprehensive about moving to Montana since she doesn’t do well in extreme cold. If it only stays a dream of mine so be it. I’m just glad I got to touch the ground, experience the culture and enjoy the people. A guy can dream.

Montana is my favorite state. But I don’t like that it has such cold winters. In the summer in Helena Montana, temperatures get above 70 degrees even 80 degrees but overnight, huge drops in temperature. This past summer I’ve been looking at the forecast in Helena, and the highest temperatures are fine. Normal summer temperatures, but the lower temperatures in the night get so low near freezing. I remember it being 81 degrees in Helena, and the lowest was 39 degrees. That’s a massive drop in temperature. I don’t like that. I’m in Chicago and the winters are fine here. Barely ever below zero degrees, and the summers here are so hot, tiny drops in temperature overnight here. Not as much as Montana.
@@breddary Summer is also my favorite season! Winter gets too snowy and I hate snow. I also don’t like being cold. In summer I don’t like being hot but you can always eat ice cream. Summer is always so sunny, I love seeing the sun! I also like all the flowers being grown, I like hot outdoor temperature and cold indoor temperature. And I especially like the longer days. Sunsets here at 4:27pm today and in the summer it sunsets at 8:30pm. Sunrise today is 7:16am and sunrise in summer is usually 5:20am.
@@Xkikax6 Yeah man! Thought I was the only one! I prefer the humidity personally but when it's cold, I can't work outside. Hands get numb, the wind is cold, it's just miserable to me. When it's warm, I can wear the same clothes all day, the longer days are nice and I just feel good! The sun is shiny! I think people are just scared of sweating.
A dream, a heaven, a tragic blood-soaked heritage ... NO matter where you stand in MT guaranteed, you're walking on land, walked on only a few times in some instances, separated by decades, in some places, and centuries in others... MT is such a sacred place.
Montana is not for everyone. Most of the people that move here seem to end up leaving, mainly for the climate and topography. I was born in the States but raised in a rural, country, quiet town in Europe with my mother. She always told me that some day, I will want to return to United States... she was right... and out of all of the states I have been to, Montana is the one I just remained in. It fits my boring and hardworking personality the most lol
My dad's father actually came from there and moved way up north Into wood Cree territory and got accepted as a member. Would be cool to head down south and see his birth land
I'm from a southern state and we get very hot and humid. I always always loved cold weather but as I've gotten older my comfort zone is much smaller. Last winter we actually got in the negatives and I've never experienced that in my life. I do not like that kind of cold at all, it hurts. I like normal cold like 45 degrees lol. Montana is beautiful but I know I'm not made for those winters.

Yellowstone does not equal Montana. It is very disliked amongst us Montanans. That should be the main reason in this video on why people don't move to Montana.

Exactly. It’s crazy how people always act like businesses grow mostly where people are good and smart, while in reality it’s a bunch of already fat asses investing somewhere to keep getting richer or cover up their criminal activity and/or tax evasion.
Nice place to hang out in the summer, especially along the Madison River. If you drive in from Canada, however, be prepared to trade nice farmland and windmills for cattle.
You kinda missed the mark on this one. Lots of "wiki" facts that were misinterpreted or misunderstood. The turn of the century boom was caused by copper mining, other minerals were secondary. Also, Helena is pronounced hell-en-uh.

Native Montanan that’s 5th generation and I like what the show has done. It’s honestly pretty realistic how liberals operate in the state. Sad part of how we live here now but it doesn’t bother me that more people are here.
Absolutely hate the influx of people into Montana in the recent years. Everywhere has become so expensive to live not to mention the sheer ignorance of the people coming in with their only knowledge of the state being “Yellowstone”
It's hilarious reading these comments of people cooing over Montana and imagining it as a beautiful naturists landscape, none of that is the reality. I've lived in Montana for years and it's a terrible state. The only pretty areas are on the borders of the state, most of Montana is a yellow, gross, barren wasteland. It's always way too damn windy, and that wind carries well into the winters which keep it a consistent negative temperature during Jan-Mar. A good majority of the cities are mostly cracktowns, so don't get excited thinking you're gonna see a cool western city, because that's not the reality. Damn near every gas station has a small casino in it (I'm not talking about buying scratchers, they have actually mini casinos in them) so if you enjoy being miserable, don't have any friends, and love gambling but never winning anything, Montana might just be the place for you!
I can appreciate Montana, but as someone from Florida, it is simply too different from the lifestyle I live now. Simply too blistering cold, not enough entertainment options other than nature, not enough opportunity.

It's a beautiful state, I would argue it's one of the best in terms of nature. That's saying something too, because America has so many beautiful states with incredible natural features.

It's "Cool" Last week it reached -45`F. Wind chill -70` in parts of N.W. Mt. Most people who move here don't do so for the weather. Truth be known, It's for the lack of diversity. Local constabulary, (Judges, Sheriff dept. P.D.) will never allow "Looters" to be comfortable here. Also a large population of Military Vets. live here and we strongly back our law enforcement. At 4:12 you list the 10 states with lowest population density. Number 5 should read South Dakota, not South Carolina. I like your content, but I often find fairly obvious errors & omissions that could be easily avoided by more scrutiny of sources & asking someone from the US to help you with pronunciation of names. Many of these are glaring, and I know that when Americans misquote facts or incorrectly pronounce names and places in other countries we face immediate rebuttal and rebuke. You mispronounced the name of the capital of the state which is the topic of this video bro.

A state can only accommodate as many people as the water supply provides for. The river gets lower and lower every year and we have faced water shortages for the past few not to mention the influx of corporate farming which is ruining once clear water supplys. Every year there are warnings of contaminated drinking water. I love my state but the money is ruining many things that may not be able to recover if it continues.
Exactly. I tell people all the time. North Dakota is the next hot spot. Not because it actually is but because everywhere will be full and there won't be anymore land to develop

karis right, in my hometown of livingston, a man was eaten by a bear while horn hunting very close to town just a few months ago, they routinely enter town as well and eat your garbage like giant raccoons and there is currently a mountain lion on my property stalking my dogs and sheep, it killed all 7 of my goats in the night, i live 2 miles from town.
The chance of me moving there are pretty slim😬😂. Even here in Indianapolis I thought the city is not big enough but even our city is 4 time bigger then the whole Montana population.

Montana, like other western states, is a colony, providing raw materials for the big states that run it -- coal, wheat, beef, and formerly copper and silver.
Which big states would that be? Montana is the 4th largest state. We don't have sales tax. I assure you we are compensated for our resources and livestock. Not a colony, but a sovereign state . A member of the USA but not owned by the USA.
I think all states do this to some extent, and sure some places use more while others generate more, but that's the balance of having such a large nation with very different regions. My primary complaint with Montana is the rising cost of living due to part-time residents from out of state looking to enjoy Montana's open spaces, pace of life, and impeccable nature (without paying their fair share into the states funding).

I live in the county of Kent, England. We are crammed in like sardines. I often say to my family how lucky Americans are to have all that never ending, diverse, magnificent country. You can motorbike, mountain bike, ride horses, climb mountains go get lost in the forests, the plains, mountain regions. You're very lucky. If I lived in the states I would try to explore it as much as possible. (not the cities though, cities aren't my cup of tea; whatever the country)

You can always tell an out of stater when they cant pronounce Helena. I live in Helena. No sales tax but we sometimes get brutal winters which is why lots of people leave. Make sure to have a block heater where you plug in your car so it will start. For the last week temperatures were between -35° and -15°. Without wind chill...some places were -70° with wind chill. Meaning frozen pipes and cars that wouldn't start. And icy roads that are so slick if you dont know how to drive in it...good luck. And the mountain passes close when they have those bad snow storms...
Charlie, I talk about all American cities and states here on this channel, my goal isn't to provide a local guide or a locals guide. Instead I try to highlight some of the best (and worst) places across the US based on one question/interesting factor at a time. I do try and give a good overall overview of the places I talk about, and I have at least visited most of the places I talk about here and even talk to locals when doing research whenever possible.
Thank God for the weather to keep the big city people out or send them and their garbage (crime etc.) back to where they came from!!!

Ah yes, Yellowstone. A show made by a Texan, starring a Californian, that's filmed (mostly) in Utah, except for the parts that have to be filmed in Helena. Nothing screams "local" more than that. You forgot to mention MT had, until a few years ago, the largest ICBM missile complex in the entire world. When the 564th was active, the 341st Missile Wing spanned 29K+ square miles. Roughly the same area as Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, combined.
They actually spent 100 million dollars in Montana on just the last season of Yellowstone Matthew, so I am sure that stimulated the local economy to some extent at-least. The nature of my content is that I build my episodes around an interesting topic or question, and try and give an entertaining overview of whatever city/state/region I am talking about. I try to at least touch on economics, planning, demographics, and geography; however I am not trying to give a full breakdown here as that would make for significantly longer (and likely more boring) content. As a Californian who was a ranch hand and wildland fire fighter, I get told all the time to move to Montana and everyone started saying I need to watch Yellowstone when they found out I was branded on a ranch (this happened before the show was a thing) and I can confidently say most people would not be able to handle that sort of lifestyle. It's a very secluded culture and while I love being deep outdoors away from civilization I did grow up in a big city and still like to move fast a lot of the time. Don't move to Montana and make the state you live in a better place, if you want to be a cowboy I'm sure there's places with ranches and farms you can work at but know its tough work. If you do move to Montana adapt their culture and values, California is a melting pot so feel free to bring your lifestyle here by all means I want it, but them mountain folk ain't to fond of most outsiders, I was an exception when I moved to a small mountain town but just know blue collared work is honest but ain't easy. @Hoss Delgado my dad from northern Idaho and on the border of Montana so that's my relation to the state, but I understand even if I'm capable of fitting in, the cultural difference is still pretty big. But where I was at they were weary at first but everyone grew on me and I miss the small community feeling

As a Montana native, I never knew why people pronounce the capital as "huh-lay-nuh" while I've only heard it said as "hell-en-uh" here.
I feel validated now. I’m nowhere near native, never visited, but I pronounced it that second way only to be corrected and told it’s the first.
That is because the original word comes from the Greek, Helena. Local Montana people just made up their own pronunciation, probably from ignorant miners and ranchers back in the day.

As a Montanan allow me to elaborate. Harsh winters are a good deterrent, as we just had some -40° days. Its not uncommon to get snow 9 months out of the year. And with the rising popularity and people wanting to move here, housing prices have gone way up, and housing can't be built fast enough for the demand. Lastly, Montanans are incredibly xenophobic and don't want any out of staters moving in. Be prepared to meet people and when you say where you're from you'll get a lot of these faces 😬.

Here is the lesson. If you have a good thing, a good place, shut up about it. In fact, tell people it's awful. It's horrible. It snows nearly six months of the year and the sun scorches you the other six. Wild animals prowl on urbanites and every other day there is a new missing person report. There might be Wendigos living in the hills and evil spirits of long dead miners haunt every dark crevice. There is no good amenities, it's hard to get around in, and people mysteriously die in their old age. The air is thinner and there may in fact be things in it, and the US Government runs a huge missile complex in the state that will surely be a target for nuclear apocalypse greater than anywhere else on earth.
Some say there are government black projects and interment camps hidden away in bunkers and aliens accidentally abduct people when they come to probe cows, happens all the time. In short, Montana is horrifying. A true wild land of nature and dark secrets that is waiting for you to make a slip so it can kill you. Go back home.

I lived in the SE corner in Ekalaka Montana a very small town you blinked you missed it and half the town was nothing but relatives. The neatest city was Baker Montana and in between is SandStone Monument Park .
I contributed to Montana's tourism once in a while during my 21 years of living in Calgary, AB. Friends and I would go skiing at Whitefish and party in Kalispell. Then we'd load up the trunk with different types of beer and head back to Canada. That was back in the early 80's when there was a sad and very limited choice of beer in Alberta, and some American suds were a novelty. Good memories!

My whole family’s in Montana mostly and I live in Texas every day when I look at photos I took when visiting keeps making me want to go back permanently to go to college and live my life there, I’m tired of the Houston heat and humidity for most of the year most of Texas is flat and boring but Montana is one of the prettiest places I’ve ever seen. When I move there this summer I will miss bucc ees and some of the great restaurants because of the great diversity in Houston.

I am from Montana and you pretty much have to have a lot of skills to not only live there but to pay the bills, especially in the winter. However, now a days working from home on the internet or starting your own business is a certain possibility to make it work.

I'm a former, longtime (Kalispell) Montana resident, I have plenty of insight. High housing costs and low wages have chased many people away. Almost unlivable there nowadays. Greedy rich people took over the state. That Yellowstone show isn't anything like it, either lol
yep! Big money developers came in and are now ruining the skyline with their towering apartment buildings. It no longer has the small town friendly feel, roads are way too crowded, lots of people having to live in campers because there isn't enough housing. It's pretty sad to see what use to be agricultural fields turning into housing developments with HOAs. Trying to camp anymore is a joke. When you can't even go up a forest service road to get away and explore without seeing an out of state rv trying to camp off the side of the road in the summer. A lot of the locals had to leave because you can't find a job locally that can afford you a decent living here, just a bunch of rich people buying up land and fencing it off including what use to be public access spots. It's very sad and unrecognizable from my childhood these days.
I'm wanting to move to Montana after I graduate nursing school. The culture and values are right up my alley, as long as other people moving don't flip the state. I'm an air force brat and my mom dragged me to California when I was 17 because she got stationed there, I can't stand blue areas. Are there any red areas that would have a hospital? Looks like most the medium-large communities are blue.
I love space too, I don't want to be packed into cookie cutter houses with tiny yards. And I'd like a strong church community. Is there anywhere or am I just dreaming? Please help
I personally feel like Kalispell (where I live) is still more red than blue but to be honest, Montana is not the state I use to know, in a lot of ways it's almost unrecognizable to me. We do have a hospital here but it's been known for being corrupt and not very good to it's nurses, I'm not in the nursing field so my information on that is very limited. I know there are jobs available here for nurses and I'm sure you could find a good place to work. Locals will be accepting as long as your not on board for trying to change things like so many people do moving from blue areas but also don't be surprised if you come across someone who might be less than friendly if they find out if you are not from the area. Space is a bit of an issue right now because developers are buying up a lot of property and building apartments, and housing developments that are basically stacked on top of each other. anything with a bit of space from neighbors is going to be $400k+ and it's hard these days to even find a rental with any space and when you do your looking at well over 2k-3k a month for rent...A lot of locals have been run out of the state by this issue and I will say there are a lot of us that feel frustrated with the transplants but we also understand why you come here, if your a good person just trying to find a better life and you like our way of life and are possibly willing to help us uphold the local culture your going to find that you will be easily accepted. We also have an abundance of churches, some are good and some not so much but there are a lot to choose from depending on your beliefs. I would just absolutely recommend doing your research before moving here.

I had applied to a police department in Montana last year from out of state. Unfortunately, I didn’t pass the physical fitness test by 20 seconds. I was only up there for 3 days, but I fell in love with the area. Went to Glacier National Park, ate at a handful of wonderful mom and pop restaurants that served food better than I’ve ever had. What more, the people are genuinely kind. I can tell it’s very neighborly. My girlfriend is apprehensive about moving to Montana since she doesn’t do well in extreme cold. If it only stays a dream of mine so be it. I’m just glad I got to touch the ground, experience the culture and enjoy the people. A guy can dream.

Montana is my favorite state. But I don’t like that it has such cold winters. In the summer in Helena Montana, temperatures get above 70 degrees even 80 degrees but overnight, huge drops in temperature. This past summer I’ve been looking at the forecast in Helena, and the highest temperatures are fine. Normal summer temperatures, but the lower temperatures in the night get so low near freezing. I remember it being 81 degrees in Helena, and the lowest was 39 degrees. That’s a massive drop in temperature. I don’t like that. I’m in Chicago and the winters are fine here. Barely ever below zero degrees, and the summers here are so hot, tiny drops in temperature overnight here. Not as much as Montana.
When you look at the most northern continental US states, it seems like the cold weather is really more of a feature.
Drops like that would be vulgar. Coastal Alaska is known to he cold, but at least we same day drops almost never go worse then 30 degrees

Summer is always so sunny, I love seeing the sun! I also like all the flowers being grown, I like hot outdoor temperature and cold indoor temperature. And I especially like the longer days. Sunsets here at 4:27pm today and in the summer it sunsets at 8:30pm. Sunrise today is 7:16am and sunrise in summer is usually 5:20am.

I'm from a southern state and we get very hot and humid. I always always loved cold weather but as I've gotten older my comfort zone is much smaller. Last winter we actually got in the negatives and I've never experienced that in my life. I do not like that kind of cold at all, it hurts. I like normal cold like 45 degrees lol. Montana is beautiful but I know I'm not made for those winters.

You kinda missed the mark on this one. Lots of "wiki" facts that were misinterpreted or misunderstood. The turn of the century boom was caused by copper mining, other minerals were secondary. Also, Helena is pronounced hell-en-uh.

I am sure there is plenty of that, it's created a very romantic view of Montana that often clashes with the harsh reality of living there

It's hilarious reading these comments of people cooing over Montana and imagining it as a beautiful naturists landscape, none of that is the reality. I've lived in Montana for years and it's a terrible state. The only pretty areas are on the borders of the state, most of Montana is a yellow, gross, barren wasteland. It's always way too damn windy, and that wind carries well into the winters which keep it a consistent negative temperature during Jan-Mar. A good majority of the cities are mostly cracktowns, so don't get excited thinking you're gonna see a cool western city, because that's not the reality. Damn near every gas station has a small casino in it (I'm not talking about buying scratchers, they have actually mini casinos in them) so if you enjoy being miserable, don't have any friends, and love gambling but never winning anything, Montana might just be the place for you!

Sadly, more than two thirds of the Glaciers have disappeared because of climate change.

It's a beautiful state, I would argue it's one of the best in terms of nature. That's saying something too, because America has so many beautiful states with incredible natural features.

It's "Cool" Last week it reached -45`F. Wind chill -70` in parts of N.W. Mt. Most people who move here don't do so for the weather. Truth be known, It's for the lack of diversity. Local constabulary, (Judges, Sheriff dept. P.D.) will never allow "Looters" to be comfortable here. Also a large population of Military Vets. live here and we strongly back our law enforcement. We are all armed and carry concealed everywhere.

I drive-thru Montana for my job all the time and the reason I wouldn't want to live there is because of the harsh winters.
At 4:12 you list the 10 states with lowest population density. Number 5 should read South Dakota, not South Carolina. I like your content, but I often find fairly obvious errors & omissions that could be easily avoided by more scrutiny of sources & asking someone from the US to help you with pronunciation of names. Many of these are glaring, and I know that when Americans misquote facts or incorrectly pronounce names and places in other countries we face immediate rebuttal and rebuke. You mispronounced the name of the capital of the state which is the topic of this video bro.

A state can only accommodate as many people as the water supply provides for. The river gets lower and lower every year and we have faced water shortages for the past few not to mention the influx of corporate farming which is ruining once clear water supplys. Every year there are warnings of contaminated drinking water. I love my state but the money is ruining many things that may not be able to recover if it continues.
I was born and grew up in Kalispell. My dad always used to say the only reason that people don’t leave is because they can’t afford to.
I came here to be alone! I'm going into the wilderness soon for days at a time! Love Montana so far

You don't want to move here we have bears and mountain lions! They just stroll around town like they're looking for a snack! In the -70 winter you are a bear popsicle!

karis right, in my hometown of livingston, a man was eaten by a bear while horn hunting very close to town just a few months ago, they routinely enter town as well and eat your garbage like giant raccoons and there is currently a mountain lion on my property stalking my dogs and sheep, it killed all 7 of my goats in the night, i live 2 miles from town.
The chance of me moving there are pretty slim😬😂. Even here in Indianapolis I thought the city is not big enough but even our city is 4 time bigger then the whole Montana population.
I am almost 15 but it is my dream to own a farm with forestry to take care of in Montana
