I'm one of the Nonbinary chatters and I do have a few things about the clove situation.
1. Yes, Clove is a video game character. They aren't going to be hurt by your comments, but it's not about them. Representation is important to some people. While having a Nonbinary character isn't what most of us are going to ask for, we are grateful that we have one.
2. Things online can influence in real life. We've literally seen that too many times.
3. Freedom of speech is fine, but remember, that doesn't mean that you won't have consequences. Also, it's someone's stream. Are you the streamer? No. You're the viewer. You don't decide what the rules are. This is his community, if you want to say things or do things that are against the rules, then you'll be banned. It's really simple
Thing is this is not even freedom of speech. With the exception that you cannot say what you want everywhere, these people aren’t even looking to have a conversation or understanding a matter, they’re just being hateful, and talking about something they understand nothing about.
Be it trans identity, Nonbinary people, or representation in medias.
As the paradox of the tolerance goes:
“In a society where we are to prone tolerance, we cannot tolerate the intolerance”
Be it racism, misogyny, lgbtphobia , validism, etc.
People died for the right to speak, in particular, against the dominant social group, this right there, is just bullsh*t.

some people don’t have the emotional maturity or empathy to understand that people gravitate to characters for certain reasons and that character becomes special to the player. many people are fond of clove because clove is non-binary and the players see themselves in clove. when you bash clove because the character is meant to go by they/them then you are actively denying the existence and experiences of the clove players (or any player) that go by they/them. (which doesn’t feel very good.) nobody calls sage a he or gekko a she because the characters have pronouns that corresponds to them which were given by the devs. if you can’t even call a video game character by their intended pronouns then you won’t respect pronouns of people in real life either. that’s not to say that you can’t mess up every once in a while, but as long as you apologize and move on then nobody has a problem. also for the love of God, “free speech” does not mean that you are free from the consequences of what you said…

This is exactly what I was thinking!! Like sure, they’re a video game character, but you denying that clove has they/them pronouns is denying that others do, and it’s really hurtful. Some people, especially homophobic cis/straight people haven’t experienced just how shitty it can feel to not be respected, and they don’t have to deal as much with a lack of representation. Is it really that much of an issue that a group other than you FINALLY gets represented??

yeah the freedom of speech only applies to the government and how its not punishable by them. and if youre on twitch, you play by their tos. and if twitch doesnt say anything about it, its still within the right of the creator to enforce their rules when chatting on the stream. i really really dislike the notion that constitutional right exists everywhere. as they have clearly never read the constitution.

personally, I just don't care enough about pronouns. I'll use your name if you are actually a cool person that deserves respect (and not a weirdo like almost everyone that I've met online which uses pronouns different from their biological sex, though that may just be my experiences and I do not mean this in a condescending way), but then people get mad at me for pitiful things such as saying "bro" when referring to them. Like, seriously? I do not want to entirely change my vocabulary for your impervious feelings. And that doesn't come from malice or hate, though I may have said this harshly and I apologize if so.

Bloodhound from apex is non binary but people don't kick up a fuss when you play them, is it only not okay when the character design isn't manly enough???
clove’s design clearly reflects that of a female and that’s where the fuss is. with bloodhound it’s not as obvious. i am a straight male and i don’t particularly like the new LGBT community but i don’t have a problem with them as well. and society as currently hates all men too for whatever reason but i don’t understand that. this pronoun wave has slightly gotten out of hand but it is what it is. and a lot of these non-binary people are women and men transitioning to women. it’s more eye candy to look a pretty woman than a man.
and you never see non-binary women use male pronouns too but you see a lot of men use she/her. with the nonbinary women it’s always they/them.
@@SoulAtParadise I get your point, non binary means they don’t necessarily feel like they’re just female or male so the pronouns will typically be they/them or she/him etc, but yes it’s definitely because clove has a feminine look / pastel theme that certain half minded people have a problem with. My brother is non binary, but they’ve never corrected me when I misgender them (by accident!) it’s not something they have tried to drill into me, they know how they feel and that’s enough no need for cancel culture if someone else doesn’t say the right word to address someone which is where society is at rn :/

Dude it’s so weird to me how many people are pissed about clove being non-binary, like dude chill they’re one out of what? 25-26 agents? You don’t have to play them?? They kept complaining that pronouns are “getting out of hand” my friend that is 1/26, it really doesn’t affect you, EVERY other agent has he/him or she/her pronouns, I think we can respect this ONE character can we not?
You don’t need to play to agent yourself to have it in your game. And getting yelled at for misgendering a fiction character in game is pretty fucking annoying and seriously not needed when the focus should be on actually playing the game and not playing who’s pronouns is who’s. Let ppl call it whatever they want.
@@Chookity-Pok getting yelled at for it could be annoying, sure. But no one would be mad at you if you went “oh my bad” and then corrected yourself. And of course it’s in the game, but again, not a huge part. If you can’t respect a singular fictional character, I’d recommend you check up on your values. If that most basic level of respect for a video game character and the people they represent is so difficult, work on that issue before complaining.

About the pronoun, I respect if someone wants to be called they/them or anything, but I won’t really ask a cashier for pronouns to buy a milk. What I’m trying to say is that if there is a friend of mine or someone I get contacted with all the time, I will call them they/ them or whatever they want me to (so also clove, since I know their pronouns and I talk about them all the time) but if you are non binary you have to expect people calling you she/ her or he/ him when they don’t know you. Unpopular opinion, but not everyone accepts it, so you could respect that they won’t call you by the pronouns you want (you might say it’s disrespectful, but not really.. people can be respectful in different way) You can disagree or agree with me, but it’s just how I see it and I wanted to share.
it's just how it works. You don't ask everyone about their pronouns.
and if you want to play it safe, just use they/them for everyone, they're neutral pronouns so you can't technically ever be wrong, if someone has a preference they'll tell you and that's cool, common courtesy is imo the right thing to do

I speak a different language (portuguese) that came from latin. In latin, there were female, male and neutral pronouns; but when it became portuguese, the male terms like, absorbedbthe idea of neutral terms.
so if I wanted to say "all of us"(neutral) in portuguese, it would be "todos"(male term).
If I call Clove by accident without using neutral terms since I don't have them at the tip of my tongue, would I get banned from chat? 🥺
