Man these kids todays and their PS4's with Madden 16 are lucky. But I will say that back in the day, in the Fall of 1997 when I got this game, the first Madden I got for my PS1, I was 15 and I went nuts. Coming from the Madden on SNES, which was fantastic and always a joy to play, to finally getting Madden in 3D was worth the wait. Back in 1997 these graphics were the shit. The Stadiums looked amazing, the players in 3D. The whole look and feel was leaps and bounds above. No I realize these graphics do not hold up today, but we are talking 1997. Getting the PS1 MultiTap and getting together WITH FRIENDS ACTUALLY IN THE SAME ROOM and playing this game after school and on the weekends was great. The times we had, the fights we had to when someone would lose and think they got cheated. It was all in good fun. See their was no internet connection for PS1. So we actually HUNG out with REAL LIFE PEOPLE and played games. Thats what I miss about gaming. Today everyone wants to go online and play with friends instead of hanging out. Even with Madden which is the Ultimate get together and hang out game its starting to change to where people just want to go online and play instead of hanging out. I would love it if someone would play a joke on their kids for the Holidays. Maybe a kid wants a PS4 and Madden or any game. Instead of getting them that, get them a PS1 with Madden 98 and a Bunch of PS1 games like Crash Bandicoot and Tomb Raider etc. It would be hilarious to see their reactions. I would pay to see that video. A kid cant wait for his/her PS4 but gets a PS1 instead, classic.

This game was so much cheaper than the rest though because it was already 3-4 years old at that point so she gave in and bought it for me. Also the instant replay camera was the first time I've ever seen anything like that in a videogame and I loved it. I was obsessed with that feature of watching different angles and controlling the replay camera. I've been obsessed with replay cameras in sports videogames ever since. Whenever me and my friends play 2k or madden and we pause it to watch a replay I'm always so much more fluid in moving and controlling the camera than they are. Funny enough I have a career in video production now.

It had modern (for 2004) rosters and uniforms, replaced Pat Summerall with Al Michaels, and could only support exhibition games. Oh, and the menu music was replaced with "American Idiot" by Green Day.
But they didn't know that yet. Remember, the game came out before Super Bowl 32. So in the intro they just used the two teams who played in Super Bowl 31.

Isn't it considered a monopoly how EA is the only company able to get a license? I think to truly make madden great again it needs competition from like a 2k sports or imagine if it used the unreal engine, either way madden will continue to be shit until someone else is able to make an NFL licensed game
The Chad I mean technically yeah, but the NFL agreed to it, so exclusive rights agreed upon aren’t the same as monopolizing an industry. NFL is still a business but they effed up.
Totally agree man... 2006 was the death of Madden football ... 2007-2008 were ok on the ps2 and original Xbox, but the 360 version and now the Xbox one and ps4 versions are pathetic .... EA just ported that broken engine

Madden really became stale back in the late 90s with their titles. It wasn't until Madden 64 that they finally abandoned the 2D style. In Madden '99, the graphics were infinitely better. But Madden '98 isn't much different than Madden '96 on SNES.

I played the demo version of madden 99.. all I ever did was try to tackle people after the play and get a flag. Ah to be 6 years old..

The NFL took its exclusive licensing away from 2K sports for selling NFL 2K5 cheaper than Madden 2005
