Ahh the legendary long nose bus. I have never driven one, I've only ever been given the snub noses. It can get a little warm in them but it is nice in the winter time, though having the big hump to climb over every time you get in and out of the driver's seat is a bit of a pain.
We have first student here that does the following towns for bus yard 633 Alton,NH (town) Belmont,NH(town) Canterbury,NH(town) Gilford,NH (town) Gilmanton,NH (town) Laconia,NH (city) These places are in the USA
If any of the airlines that serve the Calgary Area ever need to properly train their commercial pilots on how to do a pre-flight walk around, they should give these bus drivers a call. A+!
Thanks, I was trained to do semi-truck pre trips, as I have a semi-truck CDL AZ license. This bus inspection is peanuts compared to a tractor-trailer pre trip. I actually did ground school for a pilots license and flew a couple lessons. maybe someday I’ll be doing airplane pre-flights… Something I dreamed about my whole life.
Nice video! Just a suggestion though, as someone who works for the same company you do, just at a different location, try to blur out any information that could disclose the company. This is what I do whenever I make videos with the buses where I work.
Hi @BusMaster99, Thanks for the reply. I have since retracted what I originally posted. It took me a few seconds after I had posted my comment to understand what you’re talking about and on this one I do agree with you on this. Thanks

I’m currently doing in class training for my b license, 2 more classes then on road driving lessons here in Toronto, thanks for this video as to what I might experience.
Learning your inspection and how to drive a bus is overwhelming for the first 3 weeks for someone new, after that it's gravy. One tip I can give you, is use the Google maps street view to do your dry run and learn the route. That's how I memorized my routes when they gave me only 1 day to prepare. Best of luck!
I’m a school bus driver from St. John’s Newfoundland Labrador love the C2s I drive a brand new 2024 safe travels to you just subscribed to your channel 👍
We call them "crossover mirrors", used for when students cross during loading or unloading. Even though the hood is pretty short, and there is a crossing arm that forces students to walk about 2.5 meters away from the front of the bus, we still want to make sure no one is crouched down in front of the buss before driving away. These mirrors allow visibility in that specific area.
Great video, I'm from Brazil, I really like school buses in the United States, I play a game called Bus Simulator 21 that also has school buses like this one. Before starting the bus in the game, I also check that everything is in order, just like you do in the video. My dream is to visit the United States one day to see these buses in person, hugs and you gained another subscriber
I like the C2's however, Thomas needs to do something with the headlights. Even on low beam they blind oncoming drivers. It's almost as if they are not angled correctly.
GoPro has 3 major settings: linear (normal), wide, and superview(widest lens). I filmed this video on wide, because superview causes a bit of a loss of quality. The issue here also is that I didn't position the camera low enough to see the bus dashboard. The video is right on top of my head, so I have to point it down pretty low to see the dash and steering wheel. Side to side this video is actually pretty wide. I'm about to upload part two of driving through Calgary, so stay tuned.
Hey, nice video! I'm from Brazil and you already got a subscription. May i have a question, this buses have elevator or some kind of access for students in wheelchair or with some kind of disability? Here, the school buses have elevators for this type of situation, since it's law here. And sometimes, you gonna see buses designed for tough roads and buses that once time used in public transport and after that, converted or just repainted for schools purposes!
I didn't check alot of things in this video. I was in a hurry and late for my charter. I'm making a new video where I do a better inspection. The broomstick is kind of the same thing truckers do with a hammer. Hit the tire to hear and feel if it's inflated
It looks excessive on video, in real life you don't even notice that your head is moving left and right. The reason I'm looking so much left and right is because school buses have 13ft of tailswing. That's more than any vehicle on the road. If you don't keep checking the right mirror, some day you're going to drag a car with your tail. Happens more often than you think.
The school district I work at has been desperate to recruit bus drivers especially after the pandemic. They haven't been successful yet. Definitely a low paying job.
@JJFlores197 ah... I let go of my class 2 a year after the new regulations were brought in. I have my class 3 and 4 with Air. To be honest the wage should be closer to 30-35hr cuz you'll use 2 tanks of gas going and coming to work. I think a 200 day rate would fetch more people.
Our districts top rate is currently $29.50 with guaranteed annual increases of 3% over the next 5 years...when the top rate will be over $34hr. We also get health insurance available to the whole family, not just the employee...with our max contribution to our premium currently being $120 month. We are also eligible to participate in our States Public School Employees Retirement fund, so guaranteed pension after 10 years. Work hours are a guaranteed 2.5 hrs in the AM and 2.5 hrs in the PM with 182 guaranteed paid work days for a total of 910 hrs/year. Beyond that we are a large district that is in never ending need of sports shuttles and field trip transportation, so those are available to us and awarded via bid and seniority. In addition there are a few dedicated mid day runs that are gobbled up by the most senior drivers at another 2.5 hrs. In addition to all of that, we operate a fleet of vans for special needs kids and small group transit...so even more opportunities there but at a much lower hourly rate. Plus there are several summer driving opportunities available. In all, if you're ambitious and stick around to get up on the seniority list, you can make $45+k plus Bennies per year. You're not raising a family on that, but for the right person in the right situation, it ain't all that bad. That said, yes...the $200/day flat rate would be nice and attract more drivers. 😁
Why are you nosed into your slot? They make you check the oil every pre trip? Ah first stupid, i mean first student, they're an interesting company to work for!
@SB-ck9gq it seems more dangerous to be backing out blindly like that then to reverse into the slots. They should train the drivers better then. I haven't heard too many good things about first student
Lol I thought of that too. We nose in to our garage and I always said that if I was ever in charge, that'd be the first thing that I'd change....Then I realized that we'd be doing nothing but replacing the mirrors on the drivers side from getting whacked by the tail swing when they pull out. 🤣

Ah yes the Saf-T-liner C2 with a black hood. Personally busses with black on yellow look nice especally with the gloss
As a former bus driver love the video and that was a great to work with
That bus got a carbon fiber hood 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶

Just fyi there is light test /check button under the stereo
Good to know
I was going to add that
I delivered plenty of those buses to The Bus Center in Acheson
Nice video. I'm from Ireland. Just a quick observational question.
What are those two small round mirrors in the front for? Thanks

I noticed that they light up the overhead highway signs very well and don't light up the ground at all. You might be right
This is really cool, got to see the inside of a bus
All those buttons on the Driver's Door do some of them eject annoying kids?
As a student, I certainly wish some of them did!
Lol
really do agree I wish my bus is so loud
I wish haha 😂
This was an amazing video!!

Why does the starting video start with the the guy? Fixing the oil you should’ve been doing it before starting the video.
There is an excessive amount of head flipping throughout the driving period, that would totally get me sick if I drove like that.
