@@CanadianRetroThings Also, without the video cable connected, the metal chassis had nothing in common with the CRT; so no discharge would have taken place. You would want to connect your ground clip to the CRT's ground spring, wire that wraps around the edge of the CRT.

It's best practice to put a 1 M ohm resister in the cable, as it can damage some CRTs by a direct short.
