One of my favorite Ebert things is where he uses his hands to compare two things like in "Full Metal Jacket is aiming up here and Benji is aiming down here" but he always messes up the gesture because it always looks like his low hand is just as high as his high hand
So funny that to this day Benji the hunted is probably best remembered because of Siskel and Ebert's debates on their show and this appearance on Carson. Benji forever linked to Full Metal Jacket lol.
Gene always gave a hard time to Alan Alda. I saw a interview with Alda where the interviewer mentioned that Gene was his friend & Alan had a big shit eatin grin on his face.
Ebert giving thumbs down to "Full Metal Jacket" is absolute insanity! Just goes to show how even respected critics completely miss the boat once in awhile. BTW, these two also thought "Blade Runner" was a bad film. Yikes!!
Their suspicions about Superman IV turned out to be right. I grew up only watching Superman I to III. Didn't even know there was a IV. Then I was in a hotel as a young man and saw Christopher Reeve fighting some really dated CGI. I watched about an hour and couldn't think which movie it was. That's when I learned. Superman IV is best forgotten now. If I ever have kids I am perpetuating the 'it was only a trilogy' lie I was fed!
Reeve regretted his decision to be involved in the film, saying, "Superman IV was a catastrophe from start to finish. That failure was a huge blow to my career." Reeve co-wrote the script and demanded a higher salary to be in it. 😂
0:31 SuperMan 4? Yep Roger Ebert was right about how "fishy" it was how Warner Bros wasn't screening it. Instead of throwing nuclear bombs at the sun, ( horrible idea by the way ) we could save the world by throwing away ALL VHS, and DVD'S copies of SuperMan 4 to the sun.
Man, I miss all 3 of these guys, immensely.
Man I miss these guys too
George Segal looks so young here.
Same! S&E were both so witty and intelligent and entertaining. And I loved Carson when I was a teen and babysitting.
Amen! Irreplaceable
No nonsense. No snowflakes.
That look on Carson's face while Roger & Gene were endlessly squabbling ... "I'm just a potted plant here today apparently." Hilarious!
The background behind this is hilarious. Apparently siskel and Roger were arguing like kids about who would sit closer to the desk
They apparently did that for every show, so they eventually settled on trading off for each appearance
My heart hurts...Ed McMahon, George Segal, Gene Siskel, Roger Ebert, and Johnny Carson are all gone.
One of my favorite Ebert things is where he uses his hands to compare two things like in "Full Metal Jacket is aiming up here and Benji is aiming down here" but he always messes up the gesture because it always looks like his low hand is just as high as his high hand
Amusing enough ebert gave full metal jacket a thumbs down and benji 4 a thumbs up in the same episode.
I just finished this video and ebert mentions this specifically...whelp...lol
Hmm, I had no idea I'd find a mock movie review in here by S&E. Impressive bit!
My grandmother took me to see "Benji the Hunted" when I was 11. She hated it, yet I loved it. Perhaps Ebert was on to something?
This is fucking legendary, what a bunch of trolls thats amazing
So funny that to this day Benji the hunted is probably best remembered because of Siskel and Ebert's debates on their show and this appearance on Carson. Benji forever linked to Full Metal Jacket lol.
I heard Gene on one episode say that George Segal was his least favorite actor. Awkward.
Holy crap that's hilarious.
Not as bad as when they were on with Chevy Chase.
Gene always gave a hard time to Alan Alda. I saw a interview with Alda where the interviewer mentioned that Gene was his friend & Alan had a big shit eatin grin on his face.
Full Medal Jacket is a great movie.
First half. Nobody could forget R. Lee Emery's performance...
From back when late night talk shows were actually funny.
It's gotten really bad, libtard idiots that do nothing but laugh at EVERYTHING and have zero insight.
You mean you don’t like leftist commie propaganda constantly shoved down your throat? The nerve….

This is golden. Great stuff thanks for the share.
Btw, what a great year for cinema 87 was
Full Medal Jacket is a GREAT MOVIE.

George Siegel at the end there! Fantastic!
Rip 😢

Oh, this is gold. All 24 carat of it
I was 17 in 1987.
Fantastic free television.
Gold! Thanks...!
Segal and Francis are the only two people in this clip that are still alive (Feb. 2021).
The maturity and ZERO political bias in this clip is epic!
23 July 1987 . Episode 26.92 .
OMG....That Was EPIC...':-)
I loved the Johnny Carson & Connie Francis movie review lol
..great year for movies 1987.. Predator, the lost boys, less than zero, Lethal weapon..
james williams don't forget full metal jacket, the untouchables, robocop, house of games, Wall Street, moonstruck and the princess bride
Good Morning, Vietnam......
.... Blue Velvet....
Evil Dead 2, Innerspace, Batteries Not Included, The Running Man, Spaceballs, Dirty Dancing, Planes Trains and Automobiles, etc...
@@SheenaJackson39 1986
This is HILARIOUS!!!
Lol Gene Siskel once called George Seagal one of his least favorite actors.
George Segal had no original thoughts during interview.
Superman 4 was a punchline even before release?
Epic squabble!
Like clockwork: Ebert has empathy for people and Siskel really seems not to.
Is this really 1987? What superman movie are they talking about?
+Jack Torrance Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.
Mauricio Gonzalez Rodriguez Awww right. No wonder they didn't screen it for critics.
Superman IV. where were you? I want ID and Birth certificate. 😂
Oh superman 4...this didn't help. I had to get the scholastic book instead and wait till I saw you on video...quel disastre!!!
7:52 😂😂😂
Epic completely epic so funny
Did they ever review Superman IV?
Funny, they didn’t say IV in the show. That was a dog.
When movie reviews were a thing. Before rotten tomatoes decided to give a pass on everything rotten based on politics.
Spoiler Alert: Superman IV was not a good movie.
Hilarious!!!
Fact: Benji the Hunted > Full Metal Jacket
In hindsight they were right about Superman IV . It was terrible.
Back when Ebert still had a lower jaw
I almost laughed at your joke. Then i remembered that i smoke
