Foxconn employs about 1 million workers at any point in time; it's essentially a city of its own. Even with the best working conditions, there's going to be people who take their life for reasons unrelated to their work and out of their control.
In fact, if you research deeper (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxconn):
ABC News[32] and The Economist[33] both have done some simple comparison- although the number of workplace suicides at Foxconn is large in absolute terms, the suicide rate is actually lower when compared to the overall suicide rate of China[34] or the United States.[35] According to a 2011 Centre for Disease Control and Prevention report, the country has a high suicide rate with approximately 22.23 deaths per 100,000 persons.[36] In 2010, the worst year for workplace suicides at Foxconn with a total of 14 deaths, its employee count was a reported 930,000 people.[37]

As much as I hate to admit, the thing in the video isn't that bad. Even for the fact it pays low, the manager keep yelling, there is no violence (maybe) and it is still enough to appease hunger and let people browse movies and play games (if what he said is true)

You claim that kids in asia, like South Korean kids don't commit suicide? Um, when I last left Seoul, the Korean government expressed a great amount of concern on kids who get pressured by their parents. But from what I understand, its not just in Korea. Its all over asia. So either you're wrong, the Korean media is spreading fake news, or the government is lying. Before you answer, remember, you are your own self source of information.

Just to let you know, I'm Asian-American. Not only do visit my relatives in Thailand, but I do business in Korea, Philippines, China, and sometimes Japan. I spend an average of $45,000 dollars in travels, and I invest millions of dollars a year in my overseas partners. So I'm there in that part of the world more than you are. It is true that bulling is a contributing to suicide, but kids are killing themselves, just to escape their parents overwealming pressure to succeed, is also a factor. So instead of listening to your friends, why don't you fact check yourself by looking into asias' government death reports, and stop cherry picking on facts that you only want to believe in. Quit covering up the embarrassing issues in asia, and address them as real issues. So there you go.

Some of these things i have seen in American factories. I worked at a large-well known factory in the USA for a little over 10 years. Producing automotive parts for GM-Ford-Chrysler and some of the foreign manufacturers as well. First, this was a union shop. We have a union. I point that out because many people have this belief that unions protect workers and keep workplace rules in check. This is not always so. Our hours were equivalent if not worse than what this guy was saying. Your normal scheduled hours were 8 hour shift. But it was a regular-almost daily event that you would find out once you got there that you would have to do 12 hours. Then on some rare occasions at the end of that 12 hours you might be forced to stay 2-4 more hours. Break times were as followed. After your first 2 hours you got a 12 minute break. 2 hours later you got a 15 minute break. then every following 2 hours you got another 12 minute break. All of which time was deducted from your pay. It would take a good 5 minutes to walk to the break area or restrooms. My pay after 10 years? I was still only making $14 a hour. I was considered a longtime - legacy employee because most people they hired were smart enough to walk out after 2-4 weeks and i was one of the few to last that long. I ended up having to take some time off for sick leave due to a surgery, while off i found a different job and never went back. Didn't even call them to let them know. Best move i ever made.

What?? Why are you thanking this guy for doing assembly? He just snatched up a factory job in order to give some insider revelations... The number of iPhones he has been a part of is nothing to what older workers do :|
But even with insider revelation (not a very big one) you realise there's a dilemma between going inhumane and automating these factory processes (machine cost vs human labour cost) and offering boring jobs that rob people of their humanity. Yet, the company needs to make profits and their workers need to make a living at the end of the day. So ultimately, is it worth to automate these processes? If it isn't, then this video has not made a point. Then why was it made?
If it is, then this video has misrepresented factory workers who need a living and is undermining their worth to future factories...
All in all, was it beneficial that he posted this video? I can't be certain, but it does not strike me as a brilliant documentary.

prepzb 450$ a month is equal to 3000+ yuan. The prices of things are pretty low in China as mentioned in the video. You get 100 yuan a day. None of these people will spend that much.
Also 450$ a month makes up to 5400$ a year which is actually really close to the gdp ppp of China. So, these people are getting the minimum wage according to the Chinese standards.. The people who work there are 18-30 years of age and most of them consider this as just a temporary job to make some money. If it was so bad they wouldn't even consider working here, now would they??
You are a fucking idiot for comparing 450$ according to American standards. When was the last time you ate vegetable noodles for less than a dollar?? A bottle of water costs $2.50 in some places in US. For that money you could eat lunch and dinner in China!!!

any industrializing country would have to endure this at some point in their industrialization process.
Take South Korea for example. During the 1960s and 70s, when South Korea was industrializing, Korean children toiled away in sweatshops for pay that couldn't even get a bowl of rotten rice. Workers who spoke out against mistreatment and formed labour unions were brutally arrested and executed. Just after the 1980s, South Korea was able to transform itself from a literal third-world shithole into a fairly developed country. China is undergoing the same process, industrializing and preparing for the transformation into a developed economy, more based on service than manufacturing.

This is almost exactly like the early coal camps (I think that's what they were called) of West Virginia. The people were overworked, underpayed, had to live in company housing and had to spend their money on company stores. We learned about this in like 8th grade so I hope I get everything right, but conditions eventually changed when workers began to unionize. I think it is illegal to treat workers in the US like this now, which is probably why all this stuff is being made in other places. Anyways, I hope conditions improve for these people.

They should quit their jobs then. If nobody volunteers to work at the factories, then the factory owners will have to improve work conditions.
The only issue left would be the Chinese regime which still holds the old attitudes of the old communist leaderships that treat people like interchangeable economic units much like how they are seen by multinational corporations especially banks. The regime may send its army to force them or kill protesters like what happened at Tiananmen Square.

Our founding fathers understood this and created a framework where the people would always have the power to enforce that consent more easily.

I work in an AMERICAN Automotive factory and I can tell you that we work 12 hour overnight shifts, standing 11 hours a day because we get 3 short 10 minute breaks plus a 30 minute lunch "break". It's hot in the summer because there's no AC and cold in the winter because they don't always turn on the heat. We also work 6-8 days straight on occasion depending on how we're scheduled. We don't live at work and the pay is better but the conditions aren't that different than China. We also don't have a union and the company and state are both highly anti-union.
