Alan Whickers brilliant question: do you read a paper on a Monday? No fancy tricks, good questions that everyone could make their own minds up about the answer given. A great presenter.

Where I’m from that day’s paper was printed after 12:00am, which would make it that day’s news. I’m also old enough to remember that Monday’s paper was rather skimpy in size. 🌿

Crikey! ........ one forgets just how parochial those old time Bible Thumpers were back in those days. The Portree publican nailed the argument perfectly by simply regarding the ferry service (quite rightly) as an extension of the roads, and did the Clergy expect the roads to be shut down on a Sunday? The remains of the old ferry ramp were still there at Castle Moil when I was last on Skye in 2009... Good pub and B&B at the McKinnon, owned and operated by a great bloke called Iain.

This lot of Wee Frees, kept Scotland back for ages. Although now there are too many going to Skye and buying property in Skye. So maybe the wee Frees were right after all.

Clergy concerned for the soul of their flock?! They weren’t so fussy about their flock fighting and killing fellow Christians during two world wars..in fact, they used to pray for victory and bless the rifles of those sent to kill.

What would you have done in the circumstances? Perhaps you would have endeavoured to persuade Herr Hitler not to invade Czechoslovakia or Poland or Belgium because it wasn't "the done thing." Do you really mean to be taken seriously with such a trite, insencere, throw-away line? Perhaps of course you had also a masterplan to immediately halt the agression of the Austro-Hungarian Empire towards Serbia. Perhaps you could also have forestalled any plan by Britain to defend Belgium when it was attacked by Germany, the ally of Austria-Hungary, who would inevitably go on to attack France and if not defeated would leave them in control of Western Europe. And where were your people when this was taking place? My grandfather's two brothers died in WW1 but I don't hold the clergy responsible but rather the Kaiser and the Emperor Franz Joseph I who were absolute rulers in a way that neither King George V nor any clergy were.

@@UISTMAN59 Quite right Sir & yet again Alan Whicker at his very best.
I remember years ago the Archbishop of Canterbury being reminded that he had once been Major Robert "Butcher" Runcie MC-a tank Commander.

Shame none of these "brave" reporters can never show the hypocrisy in judaism, and all the racial supremacist teachings. But then they wouldn't. Too afraid of being called anti-semites. Whicker was a wanker who chose easy targets.

Religious progress: one funeral at a time. Welcome to Whicker Highland.
First Whicker: Today we look at a vanishing race. A problem people who are fast disappearing off the face of the earth.
Second Whicker: A race who one might say are losing a winning battle.
Third Whicker: They live in a sunshine paradise, a Caribbean dream, where only reality is missing.
Fourth Whicker: For this is Whicker Island.
Fifth Whicker: An island inhabited entirely by ex-international interviewers in pursuit of the impossible dream.
First Whicker: The whole problem of Whicker Island is here in a nutshell.
Second Whicker: There are just too many Whickers.
    Third Whicker: The light-weight suits.
Fourth Whicker: The old school tie.
Fifth Whicker: The practised voice of the seasoned campaigner.
First Whicker: Cannot hide the basic tragedy here.
Second Whicker: There just aren't enough rich people left to interview.
Third Whicker: You can't teach an old dog new tricks and so (turning to a swimming pool with lots of Whickers around it, wandering with stick mikes and muttering) you find them...
Fourth Whicker: (seated by swimming pool) Sitting beside elegant swimming pools...
Fifth Whicker: (seated at drinks table, with sun umbrella) ... sipping Martinis...
First Whicker: (standing by the pool) .. and waiting for the inevitable interview.
Second Whicker: (standing fully clothed in the pool) I talked to the island's only white man, Father Pierre.
Third Whicker: Father Pierre, why did you stay on in this colonial Campari-land where the clink of glasses mingles with the murmur of a million mosquitoes, where waterfalls of whisky wash away the worries of a world-weary Whicker, where gin and tonic jingle in a gyroscopic jubilee of something beginning With J - Father Pierre, why did you stay on here?
Father Pierre: (putting on a pair of Whicker-style glasses) Well mainly for the interviews.
Fifth Whicker: Well there you have it, a crumbling...
First Whicker: ... empire in the sun-drenched...
Second Whicker: Caribbean, where the cliches sparkle on the waters...
Third Whicker: ... like the music of repeat fees...
    First Whicker: And so...
Fifth Whicker: ... from Whicker Island...
    First Whicker: ... it's...
    Second Whicker: ... fare...
    Third Whicker: ... well and...
    Fourth Whicker: ... bon...
    Fifth Whicker: . .. voy...
    First Whicker: ... age.

Haha Skye bridge fucked on 'em all! This old boy will be brown bread by now, but if he had respected the sabbath, then Saturday was the Sabbath; not Sunday!

  • @johnmcdyer7297

Perhaps the Christian brothers maybe had other things to attend to on Sunday and didn’t want any interference from outsiders
