Hey! This is a cool idea! However, as so many trees have different needs it may be tricky to make a video of a "do this to every tree at this time of the year" type content. Japanese larch for example should not be wired once the leaves fall but other trees can be wired in the dormant season. 😄
@@notionbonsai Thank you Adam, it is indeed not easy to make something like this with so many different types of trees. Sometimes it is a head scratcher to make decisions. I think this is a hobby with trial and error like many things. Still thanks and good luck!
I like the bonsai you're making for your brother. I think it's time for me to find a juniper and try your techniques for myself. Thanks for this video.
Fantastic video adam with great tips on the trees. Allways a good idea to try cuttings on expensive trees. What is there to lose if they fail. And making a deadwood feature on your brothers tree was absolutely the right decision 👌
Thank you so much Callan! For sure why not give them a go! Better than throwing them out with no hope at all! I am glad you agree on the deadwood feature, I think this little one could even be put into a smaller pot in a few years and be a cute little tree!
Hi Adam. Great video as always. I am having the pleasure of visiting Ireland . What an amazing place. Fascinated how everything is so lush and green. Keep up the good work. I miss my trees back home in South Africa, so popped on your channel to ease the pain😂
A really useful video for beginners to learn the basics of looking after their trees in autumn. This winter in England is starting off with a bank as I gather it's the same where you are. Thanks Adam.
Great video Adam! I love the shape of your Blue Star Juniper - I suppose it is true what they say beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. Thanks for sharing. I always find your videos informative and inspiring. Xxx
Glad you like it! It is only a young tree but it will get better as it gets older and develops some more detail and ramification as I try to keep it small!
Hey Adam, great video, as always...I love Junipers and Cypress, this video has so much useful information for those of us just starting out...Thanks for sharing your expertise...Sequim, WA...
@@steveanacorteswa3979 Its been great but I'm beginning to worry that with so much Fall rain, what is the Winter going to bring...I'm guessing its going to be colder than usual...Keep your fingers crossed...
Grabbed two small Blue Star juniper at the end of summer on clearance at a big box store near us. $5 each! Would love more videos on styling and caring for Blue Stars!
Aw nice! Blue star was the first juniper that I learned on! I have had a lot of trial and error with the blue stars! I reckon I worked 100+ of them in my few years doing Bonsai! I will have to do another video on them in the future!! 🥰🌲
Hi Adam, thanks for the lesson. Struggle to touch my juniper since it almost died 2 years ago. As it’s already December, maybe next spring will be a good time to start. Cheers
Hi Adam. You know, I've already decided not to disturb my plants until spring. I thought, let them calmly prepare for the winter. But no! You have new videos coming out here, and my hands have already reached for the scissors themselves. Motivated. Thank you!
Really awesome and informative video. I like what you did with your brothers tree. How do you treat your cuttings during winter? As you asked at the end, what your audience would have done differently: I would have left some of the growing Tipps on the lower part of that itoigawa, to help thicken the primary structure and the lower trunk part and to aid with the taper.
Thank you so much! For winter, I may mist them with an anti-transpirant to lock in the moisture over winter. I will keep them watered well in the free draining substrate and keep them in a humid environment. This is great advice on keeping the lower tips!! I may just do this next time it fills out!
Thank You so much for sharing your knowledge, I’m a bonsai grower in training, haven’t started one yet . I’m in Southern California so we have quite a different climate, but looking for what to start :)
Hey thank you for watching my videos and supporting my channel 😊 I wish you only the best in your. Bonsai journey. 🌳🌲😄 Native trees are a good start because they are suited to where you live already!
On bonsai Q they said to cut the juniper in the green (something I was told to never do), this prevents the juvenile growth that you pointed out as new inner buds, always a battle!
Thank you. I watched all your videos and subscribed today. Such works are very rare in Turkey. I tried many times but I cannot give the shape I want. I will buy a new sapling, I hope I can do it.
Hey! Welcome to the Notion Bonsai channel! To grow your sapling thicker I recommend incrementally putting it into larger and larger pots once it fills its current pot... or to plant it straight into the ground 😊
Hi Adam, I really enjoy your videos! I am in Florida (zone 9b) USA, I bought a bougainvillea to use as material for my first bonsai. What book would you recommend for a true beginner ?
Hey!! Thanks for your comment! I do not fertilise at all in winter, it is important that the trees can go dormant and feeding can sometimes make them grow again!
@@notionbonsaiThank you for your answer, opinions differ here in Germany. The evergreen tree also carries out photosynthesis in winter and that is why some fertilize in winter. I'll try it on my trees.
Hey Adam, is it possible to make an overall short video what to do in each season? Greetings from Flanders

Good job Adam. I recommend checking for growth the grows back wards meaning it grows not out the branch but rather back towards to main trunk. GRMA.

Thanks Nelson! For the first little juniper I would put it into a larger pot until it is about pencil thick... then plant it into the ground.

On another note, have you had success with air layering a conifer?
Have you ever done a wisteria Bonsai? I have a tiny wisteria tree I would like to make into a bonsai. I would love a how to video ❤

Spectacular video. Thank you! Can you tell me where I can find tools by C. M. Bonsai?
Hey thanks! The tools are not by CM Bonsai only the tool roll itself! You can find them over on his channel! @cmbonsai
Sehr gut beschrieben, eine Frage noch zu dem immer grünen Wacholder, düngst du auch im Winter?

Sorry! Very well described, one more question about the always green juniper, do you also fertilize in winter?

Hi Adam, great video, does autumn still mean now in our country or is this too late, I'm only starting to slightly understand Junipers now, thanks🤪
Thanks so much Howard! It is coming into the later stages of autumn, but it should be ok! (As long as it is not freezing)
@@notionbonsai Thanks, Adam
You're talking about sterilising your tools, Adam. What do you use to do that? :)
3% Hydrogen Peroxide 😄
How cold do you usually get where you live in the winter? We currently have -12,5°C (at 1am) in Sweden
On a usual winter for me it is around -5C but in some bad winters the worst we get is -10C which is manageable for me 😊
