Fuki is an amazing singer. She changed her singing style and the tone of her voice for this song just like an actress plays a different role. Unlucky Morpheus is an amazing band with incredibly talented musicians. They have many great songs. You will enjoy discovering them 🤘
This song sounds like a Kayoukyoku (Japanese traditional pop song) made into a Metal song. I think, at the base of J-pop and J-metal, there is a huge layer of Kayoukyoku tradition that began in the 1960's.
Another Japanese band definitely worth checking out is Lonesome Blue, the Beginning of the End and Parallel world (with violin!) are good places to start. Doll$boxx are worthy of attention as well (Gacharic Spin + Fuki on vocals).
As you said Unlucky Morpheus started in 2008, between Shiren and Fuki, who had just worked together in a band called "Magic Ninja", and Fuki told Shiren she had enjoyed working with him and wanted to do it again at some point, so they started Unlucky Morpheus. While yes their songs are tenchnicaly covers, they are also rewrites. The music is from video games, 8 bit. The best way to show you is HD Touhou EoSD Extra No Deaths Flandre th-cam.com/video/zZu2O_JQ4vs/w-d-xo.html then the cover [ Official Live Video ] Unlucky Morpheus - 「奇子 ~ Unknown Child」th-cam.com/video/VUV-K_hg7Zg/w-d-xo.html the cover was writen in 2009. They stayed as a 2 peice band until 2016. In the time leading up to 2016 they did play live, and they used to ask friends to help them out when live, those they liked and got on well with kept being ask to come back and help them out more. One of the 1st was Ogawa on bass, who had gone to music college together with Shiren, and had become friends there, Ogawa is really a jazz bassist who learnt from Mikio (Babymetal's Kami band). Also a year or 2 below them was a drummer called Fumiya, who Shiren saw around the college. They also used other people from the college or people that they had worked with in the music industry. Jinya was found by Fuki, as his band was on a bill which one of her other bands were playing on, and told Shiren to check him out. They also used to use a keyboard player called Kensuke "Shacho" Matsuyama, who Shiren & Fuki helped start his band that did the same type of thing, but a lot heavier. Then Shiren saw Jill play at a concert, and just knew it was a sound he had to have in the band and she replaced the keyboard player. This was between 2010/1 and 2014/5, and twas just for the live performances. In the studio Shiren layed down all the musical tracks and Fuki the vocals. Then in 2014 Fuki's main band Lightbringer, went in to Hiatus and Fuki was with out a main band, and Shiren, because of a wrist injury had quit all his other bands, and did not know if he was going to be able to continue. But he kept Unlucky Morpheus going because it was his own band. Then in 2016, after asking the others who had been now playing live with them for a number of years to join them, went full time. So yes a fair few people, as guests, have played for Unlucky Morpheus, but they have never had member changes. Fuki is a very sort after singer, and has over 100 releases to her name, mainly full albums. She also does voice acting, she used to run a radio show, she has a kanji kentai level 1 degree, and she is a Sugino fashion college costume creation graduate, she makes some of the costumes she and the band wear. And in her spare time has been known to do modeling.
