I've been using the yellow (XL i believe) Brush Tee for over 15 years and I love it. I obviously don't see tons of difference in distance, ball speed, etc, but the fact I've only needed 3 of them over the course of 15 years is a solid testament. They're roughly $3-4 a piece and give a consistent tee height every single time, so for the value, durability, and consistency, it's a great product!
@@jasonthomsen4495 I have used the Brush tees and like them for consistent tee height. I tried the 4 Yards More just for fun. Didn't think they would add yards but I would rather play a regular tee or a Brush tee first.
Yellow brush tee is where it's at. Swapped to them when I was a junior always breaking tees and couldn't get standard height...plus an included ball marker can't beat that value 🤣😂🤣
I've never bought a tee with distance in mind but I always play the ones that only go so far into the ground. Having your ball teed at the exact same height all the time is one less source of potential error. The odd time I might tee higher or lower if there's crazy wind or I'm trying to bend around a corner.
Ignoring any distance gains noted, I use the 4 yards for consistent tee height only! Unfortunately I struggle with it in mid-late summer when the ground firms up. I bought a pack of the Tour tees, just for the fact of they would be easy to push in when tee box is firm ground. I have marked them to the height of the 4 yards and an quite pleased..very durable tee. Played all of last season with one tee. I also do not like leaving splintered wood tees on the tee box, whether in a pile off to the side or a bin. to me not an overall sustainable option.
Right around the corner from my house, playing a quick 9 this coming Wednesday!! As for the tee, I've never found a difference in the specialty tees, other than consistently setting the height....
I don't have access to a launch monitor, so I don't know about gaining distance, but I've used 4 yds more for years. Durable and I like the tees that have a height consistency marker thats easy to get right.
I use the callaway version of the tour tee. It is frequently windy were live and if the tee is not put in perfectly straight have had balls come off the tee mid swing. I dont have to worry about that as much with the callaway tees....just swing away. I know its 100% in my head but....it is what it is.
Love Martini tees: 1 tee lasts me almost an entire season (120 rounds or so)...the cup will start to break end of season when it gets really cold; and they almost always stay in the ground so no hunting around for your tee (the worst for this are "wedge" tees). I'd have been interested in the spin numbers for them since you are lean them forward so the cup gets between the bottom of the ball and driver.
I used the XL brush tee just for consistency on tee height with these big headed drivers! I use a long wood tee now but you got me to think about the brush tee again! Great video, you should do more of these type!
I just got some of the tour tees. I look forward to seeing if I gain any yardage or not as long as I find the middle of the short stuff I’ll be happy + or - 12 yards
Never figured I truly gained yardage with different tees but I do really like the tour tees simply for the durability, I play quite a bit throughout the year and only go through 1 or 2 packs…plus they are easier to spot on the box due to their size and color
I bought a pack of Epoch tees about 10 years ago and I haven’t needed to buy tees ever since. When they do break they become great tees for irons or fairway woods. Fun little experiment guys but it seems it’s much ado about nothing.
I will say I started using the tour tee this year, never bought it for the distance claims but use it because it hasn’t broke on me yet and it’s nice to just carry less tees in my pocket
Used Brush Tee for almost 15 years. Don't break or lose them and tee height is the exact same every time. Went back to wooden tees this year and am struggling. May go back to the Brush Tee
Talk to your boy Al. He talked me into buying those Tour Tees. I havent noticed any difference although the tees are fine overall. Tour tee Pros are way better than the huge std Tour tees though.
I saw a picture of a TM stealth at a tour show, over the weekend it was covered in dents from tees. So definitely there is some consideration there. If I had a stealth, I'm buying that brush tee.
@@PremusRed If it's that soft I don't want anything to do with it. But a bump off the cart path and it smacking into another club might do some serious damage. I think I'll stick to titanium even if I sacrifice a couple of yards.
I have been using the 4 more yards tee for several years. I don’t use it bc I think it’s longer but I like the consistent tee height that the 4 more yards provides and they’re durable.
You guys need to test the epoch golf tee from Evolvegolf. The design of the tee is specific to the dimple of golf balls to have them create less friction
I use the Tour Tees, not necessarily for distace, but because the things are nearly indestructible. Only issue is if I get a bit up on the angle of attack, I can crack the plastic inside the rubber ring on top. Still usable after I do that for a few more holes at least. I've lost more than I've broken over the last few months.
How do the BirTee tees that you guys use in the studio perform with an upward angle of attack? It seems like the club would hit the flared out bottom of the tee before the ball.
I know you don’t normally do super game improvements clubs but I saw your Halo and Sun 70. 799. Could you do those two clubs with the Wilson Launch pad. You changed balls to the Wilson Staff so I’m not sure the numbers were the same. Thanks
I just go for consistency. I liked the brush tees because they were consistent and reusable so I wasn't leaving trash everywhere. Durability took a huge hit on them in the last few years so I moved to pink castle tees.
I've use the brush tee and 4 more yards tees. I prefer the 4 more yards for consistent tee height and they last a long time. But the same height every time is a plus for me. And with neuropathy in my fingers, easier to tee it up!
Would love to see if you are losing distance using those birdie tees. They are great as are easy to set the ball if your hands are shaky and for me the biggest is one tee for the round and easy to find after you’ve hit. However I do wonder if the larger/more friction causes less distance.
How could a tee possibly make any difference on distance? You could have the most advanced acoustic levitation tee device that suspends the ball in the air and it would make no difference
A thing I've always wanted to know, does the angle of the tee and therefore that the ball sits on it at affect the spin axis and flight of the ball? So if I put the tee in a little bit squint, say leaning to the left and the ball sits on it, will that cause a more right to left ball flight? I have seen the brush tees marketed as straighter flight and wondered if it had anything to do with getting a more consistent level for the ball to sit on.
I typically think of these as 'gimmicks' but I think the best thing about them is that with the design you typically get a consistent tee height. especially w/the 4 more yards and brush tees. Plus they don't typically break/bend as quickly.
the tour tee/callaway tees, are very nice and have no trouble quickly getting in the ground and the ball stays on. my problem with them is that they fly out the ground and i mean fly. they also get teecapitated easily because they are so firm in the ground.
Martini Tee (step up) is a tee to add to your next test. Maybe find a weekend warrior golfer to test them. I wish I could hit the disco stick as good as you Ian. :-)
8:45 off topic, but, those guys in the background are the people who drive me crazy on course. Why was dude on the green and waited to look at his shot until AFTER his playing partner hit his shot? Pace of play is an easy, respectful thing to know and do
I think tee height is important. If you don't know what height you should tee up, and you buy a tee that takes the guess work out, I can totally see how that would add yards to a beginner. Or even someone who has been stuck in a tee height that is not optimal for their swing.
Great review guys...As for me, on a par 5, 527 yards, a four yard off the tee advantage is not much benefit for the cost of the tees...Tees get lose an broked for me...Thanks...
The tour tee looks like the same tees I was given quite a few years back here in Oz. Some guys over here designed them and I think Calloway picked them up. The distance, we all know, is BS but they certainly are durable. I haven't bought a tee in the last 15 years ... I just keep finding plenty and use whatever I find. I can't tell the difference.
I love the brush tee, not because of any distance claims but simply knowing the height and angle will always be the same. I’ve seen so many people hit drives with a tee that’s not put in straight
remember when John Daly asked, "do you want to hit the ball farther?" then leaned the tee forward like half an inch? that's all a tee's gonna do distance wise for you
You should try the yellow brush tee, better for modern deep face drivers. Orange too low for me. I just like the brush tee because I get the same height every time and never loose them. They usually stay put, unless you hit really fat...
Although it’s not clear how he positioned the Tour Tee but apparently to get the extra 12 yards of distance the tour tee logo should be facing you-so it looks wide not skinny (sorry if my description isn’t clear)
I use the champagne tees from golftowh. The originals not the knock off. Lean it forward and less friction. Not sure if it goes farther but a bigger place to put the ball and they last forever.
Given such a small sample size--and the presence of tester bias--the differences observed can't possibly be significant. Nor would you expect this. If a tee really could deliver significantly improved results, don't you think it would be shouted from the rooftops? When there are significant advantages to be had, the golf world switches. Just in my lifetime, we've dropped persimmon heads on woods, steel heads on woods, steel shafts on woods, forged blades (for anyone who has some sense about them), balata and other wound balls, yardage markers, and blade putters. We've seen fads come and go, like the Alien Wedge, fiberglass shafts, chippers (seriously?), tall putters, short putters, and who-knows-what other putters. Remember the PowerPod? Or the 50" driver? Bullet woods (with built-in fade fighting closed faces). And I don't even want to get into the myriad training devices that have come and gone. If a tee could increase distance, it would take over the market instantly.
I like the brush because I don't have to go looking for it, had the same one for about 5 years. (unlike Dave, wonder what the hell he's doing to his!). Also how posh are the clubs you guys play at. We don't get even a handful of fancy three prongs at my club. Have you guys tried holding a Magic feather between your top lip and nose, it add's another 50 yards.
Please test all of these again, with a 3° DOWNWARD AOA. Stands to reason that an upward driver strike would remove any tee differences. A downward strike Might* change spin numbers depending on tee friction ? (*doubt it, but for science!)
I’d like to see this on course and not on the monitor. I don’t think there is anything in it, but the real life course test would be the nail in the coffin.
I notice a difference in plastic and wooden. I cant hit w/ plastics anymore once I noticed how much cleaner it feels with a nice wooden tee. Its probably more mental than anything
From experience I found that the big Martini tee with the oversize cup was super easy to place the ball, but It did shorten my drive distance. Manufacturer claims the Martini straightens the drive for slicers and hookers. At $2 each the Martini tee is also a gimmick.
Next time y’all should do the shoes endorsed by Nick Faldo. Squarz or something like that? Supposedly they give more distance because they allow the player to be more stable…?
Tour tee’s are awesome because you only keep one tee in your pocket and it won’t break. Secondly, they look like a normal tee. I don’t like a lot in my pocket when playing
I found one of the Tour Tees on the course and used it for 2 holes and both went dead left, switched back and went straight with a regular wood tee. Did you see the tour tee go left?
