    Don't discard version 1 of the Canon 24mm TS-E 24mm f/3.5 L. You can find this lens in excellent condition for around $400 now while version 2 still costs more than three times as much.

      The ii is worth the upgrade, but only if you buy it used. I'm shooting with Mark ii as of this week, but I have shot the Mark i for years. The difference between the two is kind of remarkable in terms of CA, corner sharpness and (most of all) vignetting. You can certainly pick up the Mark i for cheap. I did and was quite satisfied. Now that I have the ii, however, I'm pretty happy. Got it on eBay in Like New condition for $1100. I'd never throw down $1900 for a new one, though.

    Thank you for this video. The 17mm with extender is a very interesting option. Have you tried the 1.4x of 2x extender on the 24mm lens and how does it impact image quality?

    • @vadim_sherbakov

      I did not. I do not have 24mm ts-e, but I guess the principal is the same. Few stops darker, a bit softer ect. But the price for the 2 lens compare to quick additional fixes in Lightroom is no match

    Hi Vadim! First of all, Thank you! Thank you for your work, thank you for your test, thank you for all of your advices. I was looking for the best setup for my architectural photography and your video help me a lot. I was looking for a setup that isn't too expensive (I 'm newbie in the business), simple to use with quality and nice to travel with. Complicated isn't it? So after looking at your video, I get exactly your setup because it combine all of my expectation and save me a lot of money. So thank you, I really apreciated your advice. And for who ask, if the extender work with the canon adapter EF to RF: I say, yes sir, it completly works well.

      Hey Matheo!
      Thank you for you comment. I really glad that my video help you. Yes indeed it will save a “few bucks” as well as weight and space. I also considering purchasing 2.0x extender in that case I will get 17, 24, 34 and 47mm on one lens.
      And since i switch to R5 recently I concur it is also working with EF-RF converter.

    I was impressed to hear that samyang was so sharp - I’m very satisfied with the Canon sharpness so the samyang must be extemely sharp :)
    In combination with the Canon 24mm and 17mm the Rogetti adapter is Awesome to make much easier movement and Perfect stichable files since you only move the Camera body while the lens is fixed
    making it possible for an perfect up 251% larger end file!!!
    Also with the New RF adapter with drop in filter option you can use nd filter on the back of the 17mm - you should not you variable nd but fixed value drop in nd filter if you go for this options. With variable you will see uneven darkening of only parts of the image when turning.
    Finalaly if you can use NiSi adapter and their huge glass filter for 17mm when your not working on RF Camera - the quality is outstanding on those filters and setup looks Awesome and does create attention if you like the tech questions circus from outsiders - but it is slow and bulky to work with :)
    Last but not least do not save money on the tripod and preferably use a geared head with three knobs - you will save so much time in the long run with these lenses and add-on’s

      Thank you for the information. All valid points. It’s an old video, since then I started to use a Canon r5 for a few years now with drop-in filters, variable nd, polarizer etc. (VND is fine by me, no issue on darken parts, or at least not what I can’t recover ) The gearhead I am using myself for many years now, could not live without it:), and recommend for everyone to use as well. If you are interested in gearheads I get a comprehensive list of all gearheads currently present on market - www.vadimsherbakov.com/blog/2021/7/14/geared-heads-for-architectural-and-cityscape-photography.

    Very useful review, this is my first time of knowing that Extender 1.4x can be used on the Canon 17mm TS-E lens (I only think that it could only be used for Tele-photos lenses). However, for your understanding, does this Extender 1.4x can be used at Canon 50mm TS-E lens (complete functionality should be including the BUILT-IN tilt-shift-swing movement) ?

    • @vadim_sherbakov
      @vadim_sherbakov  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ken Choi Thank you. Glad I can spread the knowledge, which btw Canon did not mention anywhere. I am not 100% sure regarding the 50mm ts-e (i never owned one), but judging by the back of the lens it might be just good. The trick is that deepening of the back of the lens should be “deep” enough for extender tube. Looks like it might be ok.

    Thanks for the review - I have the Samyang - I've been using it with maximum shift and there's noticeable barrel distortion - I could try using less shift (which would reduce the lens's usefulness) - do you or anyone else have experience with this lens in terms of using less shift - so as to reduce barrel distortion ? As I say, it somewhat reduces the lens usefulness - one would like to be able to use the lens to its maximum (and advertised) capabilities - yes - it is considerably cheaper than the Canon - but it is not a "cheap lens" if you know what I mean.

    • @vadim_sherbakov
      @vadim_sherbakov  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Regarding the barrel distortion I think I notice tiny one at the maximum, but not so critical. Perhaps you get a faulty lens. If you have a way to check it in service shop or even change it? I agree its cheap but not “cheap” lens.

    • @Digibeatle09
      @Digibeatle09 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vadim_sherbakov Thanks - I bought the lens 3 years ago and then my work circumstances changed and quite a period elapsed before I started to use it to photograph buildings (as distinct from just using it for certain landscapes) - so I don't think I can go back with it now - several reviews from around 2013/2014 (which I didn't read in full unfortunately) point out the barrel distortion - I think this lens bears out "you get what you pay for" - I know that there are some items of photographic equipment that represent considerable value for money (I remember seeing a comparison of a Sigma lens to a far more expensive Leica lens and the Sigma won out in several categories) but unfortunately my conclusion about the Samyang - to use an expression used in the United Kingdom and in Ireland - is : "there's a fly in the ointment....."

    • @vadim_sherbakov
      @vadim_sherbakov  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Digibeatle09 sorry to hear that. I totally agree about you get what you paid for for that lens, and since its the only cheap alternative to Canon 24mm, at the time I was ok with that. The other option is to sell in hope to get another one with less distortion which is a gamble on its own. And then the good old photoshop to correct it.
