thanks for the playthrough, I enojoyed it a lot! I appreciate all the editing that went into making this video too. great execution of the first fight on that first attempt. the second fight is much more fun without clearing hks but I decided to leave that cheese in to make single segment a bit easier. had no idea about the softlock at the end - oops! and yeah you can get back from the capybara secret (I remember doing a slight rocket boost for that but maybe you dont even need one)
Thanks for creating a fun map and for watching all the way! Glad you appreciated the edits :D Yeah - in hindsight I wonder if I simply shouldn't have done the cheese at all so I could spam more attempts, but having so many HKs around does make it a lot scarier. It's tempting to try and record a demo sometime...
Finishing off at 69 minutes NICE 👌😉 daaaaamn that platforming…! You got so good at it by the end, that was awesome. And always great to see the face cam make an appearance!
Omg, and only 0.72 seconds off 69:42.0... the world might have exploded! :D Thanks, felt like a good opportunity to turn it on for once :) Glad I was able to pull through and not get frustrated!
Wow! Wow! That was the calmest platforming I've ever seen. And perfect opportunity for the face cam! 😍 Love your thoughtful approach to these maps, and always good to see you as well, really brightened up my day. Congrats on beating this challenging map without cheating, I think that is even harder than the platforming! Now that I think about it, I know what it reminds me of - the Black Spindle secret quest in Destiny 2, or some of its raids (Vault of Glass in particular).
Thanks :D I think the only way to get through a section like that is by just staying calm, not getting frustrated and simply accepting that you'll fall a lot. As long as I notice myself getting more consistent, I know I'll nail it eventually! Glad you liked the facecam too :)
I watched a lot of the failed platforming attempts but I’ll admit to fast forwarding through some of it. In any case, I’m impressed both by your skill and your ability to keep your cool in the face of such infernal frustration!
Looks like a hard run platforming. I would of gotten frustrated and started saving as i completed each jump. great work on sticking with it. I did watch the whole video with out fast forwarding.
Watched the whole thing. Even tho the platform section is «lacking demon slaying», it’s stil a sfinkster clenching watch. And i am usually not a fan of face cams. But your «humbleness» makes it suitable.
Very true. I don't mind platforming so long as the jumps are not overly precise, but I have never once come across a platforming bit outside of ZDoom maps I can say I _enjoyed._
Yea, Archies are just so important to keep corralled. The most of all monsters I can imagine, followed closely by Pain Elementals*. It's the magic of not having an attack blockable by another monster, I guess. *: and Cacos, when infinite height is disabled and they can airbomb you
So, I'm done. Among blast damage cheese, more running in circles than a NASCAR race, and a livestream's worth of platforming, I've watched the entire episode. And yep, like the previous one, this is another map best enjoyed with saves. My main criticism here stems from the first platforming section. It hovers over the same black void as the second one, so why make it a deadly fail? Should've made both the same no fail state thing for consistency's sake, even because a player might finish the first bit and panic when deposited on the non-damaging void for the second bit. I don't follow this logic. Would have also made the capybara possible to reach on a single segment run.
Thanks for watching! El Inferno just commented and apparently it is barely possible to run (probably SR50?) back from the capybara 'secret' to the platform. Or perhaps with a small rocket boost. But yeah, I completely get your point. That's why I knew in advance that my first save would most likely be in this map 😅 I do enjoy the platforming, the part at the end at least since you get an unlimited amount of tries and I'm generally pretty patient. The death pit I don't like as much, but that's only because it's after all the combat has ended. I'd be fine if it was really early. Still, shouldn't have died there - during practice I made the jump 5+ times in a row without too many issues... but oh well. x)
(mid-watch) That Trackmania challenge sounds kinda nuts. More nuts than this. The promise of a prize is incentive, but I can see it causing seriously shaky hands late in a good run too. Ey, facecam! Nice for a change of pace 😄 I gotta mention it's hilarious how you record a crystal-clear vocal track with the microphone on your headset raised like that. I know you probably record the voiceover with a separate, fancier dedicated mic, but still. I'm only one watcher but time and schedule allowing, I'd be down to watching other IPs, if you're up for them. Ultrakill is a good one, plays a lot like Doom, especially new Doom.
(not related to the map, still watching through the safe platforming bit, will post map-relevant commentary after I'm done) Vytaan my friend, tell me: have you recorded Zeppelin Armada up to map15 yet? Because if not, I have a tidbit that'll save you many hours of empty wandering: *The BFG is completely unreachable.* It's nothing but a troll from the mapper, Saltator.
@@Vytaan Whew, just in time indeed then 😮💨 I remember trying to warn you about TNT map29 and being too late for it. Glad you won't be as aggravated by a cell weapon this time. lol
Wow, that platforming! Congrats, amazing achievement! I couldn't nearly complete that, not even with noclip cheat. :D Thankfully on skill level 2 (UV in this wad) that section is skipped.
5 minutes in, 80% of the enemies are dead, and there's still an hour and ten minutes to go. Uh oh! 55:50 OMG, he's red with anger! 😆 56:18 100% retention, baby! 😁 It's funny, it was at this moment, when you'd had failed attempt after failed attempt and then put on the face cam that it suddenly felt like a live stream. I kept wanting to post a comment in chat, especially as you kept talking to your audience with questions and stuff. 😅 This was a good video to chill to and play in the background. Yeah, platforming is pretty crappy, but it also doesn't require a lot of focus as a viewer to see what's going on...or going wrong. So I still enjoyed it.
Thanks for watching all the way through! Heh, I'm glad the facecam helped :D Didn't expect it to feel like a stream, though I think that's a good thing! The goal was pretty much to make it feel a bit more interactive and not just me spamming attempt after attempt, so I guess it worked x)
Of course I'm watching this epic platforming instead of sleeping, which I really should be doing right now :D still 20min left, perhaps after that.......... Or perhaps another vid? Edit: you could play Doom3 with facecam 😂 before the dark ages comes, hm?
3:13 I think you meant "ay ay ay" there... :D 1:14:50 To quote Cylob: "The crowd is jumping as the beats come to an end, rewind the track and start over again..."
I dont mind saves at all. They're in a game for a reason. I get some people like the extra challenge but if it makes you feel frustrated whilst gaming it is pointless.
If it were me playing I'd just turn on the jump function and be done with it. Don't have time to faff about trying to do difficult platforming for 30 minutes lol!
Honestly i think it's just kind of mean to put a platforming section like that after such tough fights, imagine being too stubborn to save and failing the platforming a million times and having to replay the whole map. That is not fun to me. 😢
Too easy, the final area could use some 20 damaging floors to make it a bit challenging. Jokes aside, I'd rather try my luck at beating Doom II Map30 Pacifist than single segmenting this platforming (not talking about single segmenting the map).
I wouldn't go that far, but I sure would say I'd rather single-segment two or three Junkfood maps than do this platforming bit straight on like Vytaan did.
The solution is to start a YT channel and do commentary while recording your platforming attempts. 😋 All jokes aside, I think I wouldn't have been able to do it if I was just playing by myself. Before this video, I just didn't have the patience to try and do the whole thing in one segment. Sure, I practiced it from time to time... but I pretty much just hoped that the motivation of being watched (and having an audience to talk to!) would be enough :D

I remember brainfreeez doing this Parcours. Crazy shit!
I have never encountered a platforming section that I have enjoyed. Ever. I guess that's just not my cup of tea. Anyhow, good job on the map! :D
Understandable, it's not exactly Doom's biggest strength 😅 I think it can be okay, but it really depends on how fair the implementation is.

That was a real tough map! Good run
Thank you!
It's crazy how much of a difference it makes when the archies in the first fight make it out of the imp funnel 😮 That first run was #SuperClean 🎉👌

Try this on brutal doom😂
If Dootal Broom has ledge grabbing/mantling, I am all for it.
honestly, i dont understand the appeal in those kinds of platform sections. im not trying to hate or anything, i just dont get it
You really aren't alone, I'd say platforming in Doom is pretty niche. I enjoy it, but only if it's not too punishing (like the last room basically)
