I moved to Murrieta, CA before my freshman year in High School. I came from out of state and people told me McGrath had a track off the 215. I couldn’t believe I moved to the middle of Moto heaven! I would ride my YZ80 from Nutmeg in Murrieta all over town. We would cross the 215 and watch Jeremy ride his parents track / jumps from the road! A couple times he was filming some new Moto VHS/DVD’s. Some of my most memorable times. Murrieta was a blast back then! We used to ride the riverbed from Murrieta High School to John’s Motorcycles, Temecula Motorsports, and the Metal Mulisha warehouse off Jefferson! Nobody ever complained or said a word!
Tell me about it! I was in Menifee, still am. There was a time in the late 90's to early 2000's when I could practically pick up a rock & throw it in any direction & it would hit a SX or MX Champion's house. You'd run into them at the store, gas station, driving range, golf course, etc. Virtually without exception all great guys, many with great wives, who are still close to my wife and me today. I remember thinking at Anaheim & San Diego for a few years, about 15 of the 20 guys lining up in the 450 Main live within 4 miles from me in any direction. Plus the top freestyle guys like Deegan, Twitch, Metzger, Faisst, & Adaptonte. Hell, there was also the "Anheuser-Busch Breeding Farm" for it's Clydesdale horses. The area was absolutely littered with "secret" professionally groomed practice tracks where now there is less land, more houses, more apartments, which have created more people, more traffic, more stoplights, more police because of higher crime, and dumber, less respectful kids. Oh yeah, and everybody's leaving California because the lying, cheating, & stealing Democrats are fisting us and sucking us dry.
@@showtime951 awesome post ! Thanks for sharing! I completely agree! Murrieta used to be such a hot spot! We used to go to the Murrieta movie theater, I remember tripping out when I saw Pink with Carey Hart and the Mulisha guys just chillen. M-Town had that small town vibe back then, big celebrities were rare. I moved away in 2010. When I go back it’s so depressing how much traffic and what they’ve built!
@@JPW328 - I've got two houses so I'm in two cities. In the Menifee house about one week a month. I purposely drive around just to see what the fuc& is going on, construction-wise NOW. I swear to God it seems like they are starting another 100 houses every time I'm home. If there is land, build on it! Although nowhere as bad as L.A. or S.D. the traffic everywhere sucks ass, which is why I'm reminded 150 times a day, "There is no substitute for Porsche!"
@@showtime951 that’s awesome! I’m in North County now, even down here it’s kind of depressing because when I leave my condo drive over what used to be Carlsbad raceway! I come up to Murrieta/Menifee for work sometimes and I swear there’s always a new housing track from Menifee to Hemet!
i'm speechless... best interview ever! it's so fun to hear details on this history! David Bailey and RJ inspired my racing and love for Honda, and MC and me were in our prime over the same years in the 90's (only i was a nobody).
Ricky, thank you for doing this. Jeremy, thank you for being on the show again. Maybe this has been done already. How about Ricky interviewing Jeremy and Donn together? Comparing their career timelines; Jeremy, going from BMX to MX and SX, while Donn has gone from three wheelers to working for Cycle News to TWMX to SWL? I would be intrigued where Donn was at while Jeremy was winning. Was there a moment, maybe taking a picture, that you were the only photographer in that corner and your captured magic. Just throwing out an idea. Thank you again for what you all do and what you have done. It's fun to watch and listen.
👍I remember when I was a kid in maybe 1986 I sent away for a little RJ booklet from the back of a magazine. Something like dirt bike skills. I read that thing so many times and wanted to be just like him. Then he got hurt and stopped racing and that’s when I became a McGrath fan. I met RJ once at Saddleback, he was a very gracious guy and it was awesome to finally meet him.
RJ vs Wardy and MC vs Emig were the greatest battles I remember, RJ was my first hero at 4 years old watching on VHS tapes in the UK good times great memories.
I'm McGrath's age and when I started watching motocross & supercross, Ricky was on a streak. I also raced BMX, so the love for motorcycle racing was always appealing.
This was great to listen to. JMC was my idol as a teenager and this all brings back great memories. Don't ride anymore but love reliving those times. I actually would like to hear a more in depth account of JMC's career. You guys felt a bit rushed to meet time deadlines. Id listen to something way longer to get more details. Thanks for doing this.
Jeremy is spot on when he first started racing 125 nationals he wasn't very good , it took him awhile . I was at all the Troy 0H Kenworthy nationals & he wasn't competitive at all , he figured it out though .
Tell Jeremy I was there for that HighPoint crash Don. I tried Qualifying didn't make. So I just hung out by that jump down. It was terrible. Never forget it. Got some VHS videos from that day.
I hope someday I bump into Jeremy like I did in 1997… bumped into him in the bathroom at Gypsy Tearoom in Dallas Texas after he took 2nd in the supercross series. I introduced him to a hot girl while he was with his girlfriend… now wife, I was trying to set him up and for a moment it was pretty wild, I walked off for a moment while they were talking and when I came back to the bar she was riding on his back and they were laughing their asses off, meanwhile his girlfriend looked pissed. Crazy times in 1997!
Class act. Both these men.

Used to ride Carlsbad frequently. My recently passed away friend, Marty Smith used to teach a lot of his motocross schools there.
The Bad Boy and the King! Doesn’t get much better than that 😎🏁🏁
Two of the best to ever exist. Absolutely too awesome 👍😎
