- At least four people have died and up to 15 are missing after a massive fire ripped through two joined apartment blocks in the Spanish city of Valencia, emergency services say.
The blaze engulfed a 14-storey block in the Campanar neighbourhood and spread to an adjoining building.
Firefighters were seen rescuing people from balconies.
Experts say that highly flammable cladding on the building enabled the fire to spread rapidly.

Do they not have sprinkler systems and fire escapes? And why was a highly flammable material approved for such a building?
There are standards for the design, installation and inspection of Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems & Perimeter Joint Fire Containment. You would be shocked at how many municipalities in the US do not enforce the IBC required special inspection (1705.18 of the 2021 IBC) of penetration and joint passive fire protection. Merely understanding and enforcing the building code's requirements would save so many lives, there's no excuse.
