    I also love your channel! It's really great for people who will become an airline pilot one day. Its like talking from face to face to a pilot and you get a direct view into whats going on. Keep it up!

    In much briefer/simpler terms, when it comes to rosters airlines use either 'bidding' or 'fair allocation' systems. To allocate the work, they then use either pure 'seniority' or 'rotating seniority'. Lastly, pilots bid for either a 'line' (a 'bidline' ie. a whole month of flying), or 'trips' (ie. individual in/out to base trips). These are the main three parameters in any airine's crew rostering model eg. airline X uses 'rotating seniority bidlines' but there are a few others too.

    Firstly, I just want to say a huge thank you for creating and continuing to run this channel! I have just recently become a cadet pilot and I begin my training in 2 weeks in Spain! I was searching high and low for a channel like this. It is filled with a lot of useful information that has been answering a lot of my questions and my curiosities. It's safe to say I've been binge watching through many of your videos! It's proven quite invaluable to me :) In terms of feedback, the quality of your videos has come a long way from your first few. The intro is a very nice touch and your mic quality definitely seems to have improved. I think in this podcast format you are following, being able to hear your clearly, without much wind or background noise is probably one of the most important elements of the video, so keep improving that! With that said, the latest intro is a nice touch! I'm looking forward to all of your new content in the new year and will definitely let you know if I think of any topics or ideas you could feature. Best of luck and enjoy your Christmas and New Year!

    What is the process of going through the airport from parking your car to boarding the plane and how long does it normally take as a pilot?

    • @berndheiden7630
      @berndheiden7630 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depending on your commute you are doing several extra hours. When your flight is scheduled to depart at 06:00 and you have to be at the airport for briefing 2 h early you might get up at 01:00 or 02:00. Crews go to normal security nowadays (in the 1970s we were bussed from the Lufthansa building directly to the aircraft). Flying 5 legs a day will get you in the Hotel after 22:00 and you are lucky if the kitchen will still make you some sandwiches. Short haul is a tough job!

      Can you make a video on education, like getting a aviation degree vs. a normal college degree and getting your license outside from a smaller pilot training programs, like what is the likeliness of getting hired and etc? I used to go to UND (university of North Dakota) which is one of the best aviation universities in the states, but I didn't like the program so I decided to change and do flying separately form a different university. I would really appreciate your reply! Thank you in advance :)

    Long haul makes you weary after a few days. Very different than regional flying.
    That being said, I like certain aspects of both types of flying.
    The younger pilots seem to enjoy the 8 legs per day, long haul is one leg per day max.

    Fantastic Video .. I'm happy that your videos are very helpful & the best part is that your clips are very detailed ..
    I've 2 Questions.
    1- If pilots are flying long hauls like 15-18 hrs flight then do they get rest in between ?
    2- What is FRTOL & COP-RTR (are these courses included in CPL ML/IR) ?

    • @shriprasadgujare8639
      @shriprasadgujare8639 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Answer to your first question. Yes, they do rest in cruise mode. This is also called as in-flight rest (IFR) where they are replaced by equally qualified flight-crew members. Usually when the flights are long-haul, the crew compliment (minimum crew members required to operate flight) is augmented (more crew members than usual). Rest rules and max. flight duty period rules are applied.

    Another information jam packed video.
    Unrelated question to the title of this video.
    I was curious to find out from yourself in your opinion what are the main difference felt in controlling the yoke between the simulator and the real plane? (In what ways do the characteristics of the controls and flight model differ)
    Are the differences obvious and when you move to flying the real plane do you have to unlearn any habits (bad or good) picked up from the sim?
    Thank you!

    Hi There! Great videos! Have you talked about the differences in flying the smaller 70-150 seaters versus the big boys? Is there much of a difference at all? Can you transition from a regional 100 seater to a larger transcontinental or transoceanic 450 seater smoothly? Thanks and have a great evening! Keep up the great work. I'll keep watching and giving your videos referrals to all my aviation friends! -- Paul

  • @nminenko
    @nminenko 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hmm, so in Europe short haul pilots stay in the same timezone? Or did you mean that you're not crossing as many timezones as the Emirates pilot?
    The USA except for Hawaii is all one theater, and that crosses 3 timezones. Hawaii to the west coast of the USA is one theater.
    A theater is defined to be 60 degrees of longitude, according to the rules in 14 CFR 117.

    • @nminenko
      @nminenko 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correction: the continental USA (the lower 48 states) is all one theater, crossing 3 timezones.
      I forgot how much further west Alaska is ;-) ; it's 75 degrees west of New York.

  • @pushflush8256
    @pushflush8256 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm working for the first roster example airline.
    Things are totally changed, in worse.
    You can fly long haul, thats right, but in between they give you a lot of turn around at night.
    As an example you can leave home at 0100am and come back at 13.00pm.
    You will be like a zombi, tired and if you have a family you are not able to cope with that.
    On top of that the bidding system is totally unhelpful!
    During layovers you have to rest properly and you won't have enough time to spend around to visit the places.
    That's not my personal opinion, this is my life.
    I'm about to resign and go for a short haul and a fixed roster.
    I need to come back to normal life...
    Thanks Mentour Pilot...

    On average, how many days do YOU work and have off? In both, a week and a month.
    Also, do you return home at the end of every flying day?

    Do pilots when going from a short-haul aircraft like a B737 to a long-haul aircraft like the B787 have to buy their own type rating for the B787 or is it free ??

    • @rikis8266
      @rikis8266 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't buy type rating, you get it, free or paid, it depends on airline. Some airlines provide free type rating.

    Hello great channel really enjoying the vids! i am currently doing my PPL and in a few years time i hope to begin my ATPL and after hopefully land a job at Ryanair i have a few questions however if you dont mind:
    I live in England and London Stansted airport is only 30 mins away. I also know Hungarian. will i be based at stansted or in Budapest?
    In terms of the type rating how long will the type rating take place and will i be offered a position if i am successful?
    And finally what will i do for my type rating?

    What are the requirements to become a test pilot?

  • @Marimaramaralda

    Do you have any tipps for people with fear of flying for a long-distance flight? Because I'm always so scared about it and already crying before even entering the airplane so it'l be a hard job for me to fly over to the United States next year for studying...

    Another excellent video! I got a question for you as well. I am currently flying as a private pilot. I've read about increasingly bad pilot education and lowering requirements for the job (since the demand for pilots is greater than ever before and certain airlines pay minimum wages for pilots). What is your opinion on that? I've recently talked to a female airline pilot and asked her, if she still flies single engine piston aircrafts and she said not anymore. Do you still fly single engine pistons? Maybe it's just me but I have a feeling that on a sep airplane, you are flying much more actively since you feel almost every input from the outside. Is there a benefit in switching between aircraft types or can you still learn from sep's and add those experiences into your job to increase safety?
    Keep up the great work and many happy landings! =)

      The problem in dealing with long haul routes is that the outbound flight would be so long the pilots would need such a long period to relax and recover for the return leg that it would not be easy to recover in time to go to an exotic attraction.

  • @guillermoduran8828
    @guillermoduran8828 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does this mean that the short haul flight pilot can make more money than the long haul pilot because the short haul pilot is actually flying more even though the hourly rate of the long haul might be higher than the short haul pilot? Thanks!

    • @Nahid125
      @Nahid125 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Long Haul pilots earn more because of longer flight legs and time away from base.

    Hello Mentour pilot. Am moses in Nairobi Kenya,.I like this channel so much because its informative, for 9 years i have been trying to make efforts to join any flight school but am unable because i cant afford it please save my fading dream

      Moses why don't you start a gofundme page to save your fading dream? I seriously doubt anyone would donate, but you never know - even more ridiculous things have been funded on gofundme before - the site is full of people who simply want other's cash to do their own thing, and like Nigerian scammers (Nigeria's most successful export), it only takes a few gullible people to get you what you want.

      +Mentour Pilot I have some more questions :D
      first: who counts your flight hours so they get recognized by e.g. airlines no matter whether you are a privat pilot or an airline pilot?
      second: how do you know when to turn into any leg in a traffic pattern? does atc tell you or are there some kind of landmarks or something like that?
      I'm looking forward to your answers, best regards :)

    Captain, how many hours (currently in total) do you have in the air?

    • @9LimaAlpha7
      @9LimaAlpha7 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Amazing, you fly B737 say if the airline wanted you to fly B747 or B777. Do you have to go in flight simulator and train on the new airctaft or just know what are the major differences and fly without training because it's the same company but different planes?

    • @chekini1
      @chekini1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sallah AL Houssawi you have to go to training because you need to hold a type rating for the aircraft you are going to fly.
