The only maritime disaster the Waitemata can boast is that time Rachel Hunter lost the top of her Trumpet while paddling past her ankles in a Tip Top commercial at Cheltenham Beach! It was edited out of course but to the delicate souls who reside there still it sears their memory deeper than the Wahine disaster and almost as much as Labour winning any election! 😅
