    Biggest thing I've found that helps is not sitting down when you get home. Keep the momentum going. Once you sit on the couch it's all over.

      Yup, once my butt plops on the couch, that’s easily pretty much my evening 😅 That said, I still think it’s important to be able to rest in a healthy way :)

    Where I work is around 30 min walk to the train station, and the route is honestly really lovely with lots of greenery and a river, I always walk, and it’s super nice to enjoy the sunset when I can catch it around this time of year and watch all the birds and planes in the sky

    Love this! The biggest thing that helps me transition from work to personal time is some sort of physical activity. A quick run, a yoga class, or just a walk with my dog is always a MUST right after work! Otherwise I feel so stagnant from being at a desk all day.

    Good video! I agree with all of these, but I would suggest that personal preference might play into the "one day for admin/chores" thing. Personally, I used to try and do all those things on the weekend, but then sometimes they'd feel overwhelming and result in me doing little or nothing at all. Lately, I've been trying to do a little cleaning/laundry through out the week, and I've found I get more done! Just a quick 10-15 minutes each night to clean up one small area of my apartment or to wash and put away some laundry.

    • @itsnicolesyk
      @itsnicolesyk  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ouu, that's a good point. I like your suggestion of doing a little bit throughout the week too bc it's true that sometimes if the chores feels like a big daunting project, it's easy to want to avoid it.
      I also should mention that I live in a small condo and I'm pretty minimalistic so it's also easier to clean compared to a bigger place with more things and more people.

    How on Earth do you have the energy to do all this? I am emotionally and mentally exhausted after work. Last thing I want to do is a side hustle or learn something new.

    • @Envy28213
      @Envy28213 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Same… I only got about 3 hours of „free“ time a day. What helped me on some days is to have that „transition activity“. For me it‘s taking a walk, going swiming or even just taking a shower. It seems to clear my mind, so I can do something that I don‘t really want to do or to learn something new.
      NGL it doesn‘t always work 😅 and sometimes there is other stuff that needs to get done like laundry, cooking, appointments. But I try to make some extra time by preping the day before to get a free evening.
      I feel like a lot of those influencers live in fantasy land. Most people don‘t have 5-9 hours after work. 😅

      just making time every now and then is great already

    • @itsnicolesyk
      @itsnicolesyk  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Oh, I don't do everything in one day 😅 Each day is different, depending on my energy levels.. I also used to get emotionally and mentally drained after work, but I realized that having a transition activity (workout or a walk) can help a lot. If you get very exhausted, please try a yoga nidra (I listen to Ally Boothroyd) and it's so healing.
      Usually I'm able to do a transition activity, dinner, and then I like to work on my side hustle for at least an hour (I only focus on doing 1 thing and it's something I enjoy / i.e., creating content).

    Personally, I work as a CNA at a ltc facility and how I start my mornings determines how the rest of my day goes. You just have to maintain yourself and know how to recharge during your 5-9. Find ways to let go of the toxicity and stress that comes with a full time job. Another thing that helped me was spending your days off and your time off being productive instead of sleeping in all day. Use this time to relax and do something valuable with your time.

    1. set all admin & planning in 1 day: Sunday. Grocery, planning, financial, meal prep
    2. Have a shut down ritual. Take notes what has been finished, what to do next, grateful journal, take a deep breath
    3. have transition after work (physical/mental): walk, workout, meditate
    4. have solitude time to do nothing (up to 30 mins): journaling, do nothing, meditate
    5. focus on the present/slow down: meditate or plank, washing dishes/clothes. BE INTENTIONAL, u have more time
    6. be friends with people. Grabbing dinners after work, workout w/ friends
    7. have fun life outside work (hobbies, interest, new things). u don't have to attached to ur works
    8. never stop learning! podcast, utube videos, books
    9. give urself grace & compassion. turn on potato mode.
    * don't forget to prioritize urself

    What would you recommend to people with a long commute? I travel 3 hours by train every day... Moving closer to my workplace is not an option due to the high cost of rent. I feel like so much time is wasted... and I don't know how to use those hours productively....

    • @itsnicolesyk
      @itsnicolesyk  หลายเดือนก่อน

      What are your priorities / what would you do if you didn't have those 3 hours of commute?
      Some things I personally like doing on my commutes: reading my Kindle, listening to podcast/music, working on my side hustle (typing content like for my TH-cam, creating content/talking on my IG stories, writing my emails), journaling, meditate/rest.
      Sometimes I think it's also important to just do nothing and just be. You don't always have to be productive + optimize every moment of your time. What if you can just enjoy the train ride and scenery and be grateful for a seat on your safe, comfortable ride, for your workplace? :)

    Hhmm, 171k views, but only 20k subs? I guess there's no pleasing some folks 😄 - I could never do this job, there's so much distraction in life these days and only 24 hours in a day.
    @Nicole, that part next to the sea looks so nice! Being near the sea is like a reset switch to me.

    Define "waste".

    • @itsnicolesyk
      @itsnicolesyk  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was defining it according to society - "if you're not optimizing your time to do something that is productive and makes money, it's wasting."
      But I also share my personal take on this - just because you're not doing something that makes money or contributes to "growth", isn't "wasting." One of my tips was to practice doing nothing and genuinely enjoy being :) what's your definition of waste?

    You should do a video about how to not waste your sleeping hours. As humans, we waste so much precious (self) productivity sleeping.

    Good video, but I would add one thing for young people. Make time to meet a potential boyfriend or girlfriend. You are exposed to all kinds of potential partners in high school and college, but after you start working, you really have to make an effort. People are so afraid of rejection that they do not even make an effort. You cannot play to not lose. You have to play to win. The right person is out there, but you have to find him or her. That person will not just fall into your lap. There are a lot of very miserable 40 year olds out there who thought they had plenty of time. Life is short. Sure, getting married and having a family is scary, and it will turn your life upside down. But it is totally worth it.

    That's so easily said when your're a 20+ single living alone. Now imagine you have a partner, pets, sick parents second job or god forbid - kids :D

      a partner is supposed to make your life easier not harder lol
      obviously you have to spend more time with someone, but they also help with cleaning cooking physical/emotional support etc
      you can also split rent with them
      I don't think there's a clear cut better or worse

    • @itsnicolesyk
      @itsnicolesyk  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I now do have a partner and thankfully they respect my boundaries when I need alone time and helps with cleaning/cooking/emotional support. Having kids is harder but you can get a bit more creative - I have 3 younger siblings who are ~10 years old, I had to assign them chores and get them to help out when I was living at home.
      That said, on a macro-level, I do think there's a big societal problem with long, tiring jobs, pay that doesn't keep up with inflation, and rising illnesses (physical + mental) and I just hope that we can all take care of ourselves on the micro-level while advocating for systemic change.
